David enjoys teaching students from all different backgrounds and levels of proficiency. Whether you are just starting out or a virtuoso shredder in the making, he is happy to teach you! Over all, he is fairly laid back, as long as you practice. He usually combines work with reading off of the treble clef (what he likens to "eating your vegetables." You may not want to do it, but it will make you a healthier musician!) with learning more popular songs (or songs the student says they would like to learn) through tablature and chord charts, depending on the style of the song.

David is also very pro music theory. He usually incorporates music theory into the curriculum in conjunction with the material already being discussed. He is also very knowledgeable about composition/songwriting, and if the student is interested in learning more about this area, he is happy to share what he knows!

About David

David is a successful singer/songwriter/guitarist out of Fairfax, VA. He has a bachelor's degree in Music with a concentration in composition from Salisbury University, where he also studied jazz and classical guitar . In the 25 years he has been performing (20 of those professionally) and playin

I had to switch the lesson to in-home roughly 3 hours before the scheduled lesson. David was great and accommodating. He gave me a crash course on scales, which I didn't know anything about, and explained them so that I actually started to understand.

My first lesson with David was excellent! He is very patient and knowledgeable. I now have extremely high expectations for learning to play the guitar. I highly recommend him. He gave me a thorough explanation about how guitars are made made, the parts, we tuned the guitar and I am ready to groove!

For 23 yrs I’ve taught all levels and most guitar styles. My specialty is blues. Beginners can use my instructional book and begin playing songs from their 1st lesson! I focus on the musical styles my students like and create a curriculum customized for each one. Best of Bethesda Guitar Instructor 3 consecutive yrs. I started learning guitar on my own. I got some CD’s. It got me started. However, I wasn’t progressing. I looked for an instructor in my area and Brian Gross came up in my search engine. I was very frustrated at first but Brian assured me it takes time and practice. It’s the little things that he teaches you that makes all the difference. If you listen to what he tells you and apply it you will amazed. Great musician, great teacher.

Brian is a wonderful, fun, and very supportive guitar teacher. He encourages students like me to practice and learn, and he gives very positive and tailored instruction. He allows his students to choose the style of music that they want to learn, and he offers the easiest and most straightforward way to learn it. He prepares his lessons very well, and it is always a joy to see his cheerful face. Even someone like me who sometimes fumbles around with the strings can feel comfortable in his great manner of teaching. I find that I have learned quite a bit in a very short amount of time, even with my busy work schedule. The guitar exercises that he gives us are fun to do and so effective. I highly recommend him as a guitar teacher, and I look forward to many more lessons with him.

I teach all levels of guitar in the areas of rock, blues and jazz, but I really focus more on the musical skills need to play guitar in any style. These include a thorough chord vocabulary, experience playing rhythm guitar, and a complete progressive study of scales and their use in improvisation (lead guitar) starting with pentatonic scales and progressing to major scales, different forms of minor scales and modes. All scales are learned in multiple positions and the student learns to perform with them in any key. In every lesson the student and I play exercises and study materials together to make actual music from the materials being studied.

About Dennis

I have been teaching guitar for 25 years in the Washington DC metro area. I work with students 12 years of age and up, but I am especially experienced at teaching adult students regardless of whether they are beginners or have previous guitar experience. This was my first ever guitar lesson and I thought it was a blast. The instructor took the time to explain best practices and why they were so important. I also really enjoyed seeing the instructor's passion for the guitar and that passion made the whole experience even better!

Dennis is a fabulous teacher! I took lessons for 2 (?) years from him in high school, entering with decent knowledge of music from other instruments but only beginner-intermediate guitar skills from self-teaching and guitar class in school (what a joke). From the very start he adjusted to my level, asking me to play something I knew and identifying the chords that I had (unknowingly) played, and creating an exercise for me to practice new chords at home. Lessons were nothing but fun and informative; Dennis is a great conversationalist and incredibly knowledgeable about music theory. His lessons are full of variety: scales (different positions and modes), progressions (written on the spot by Dennis), improvisation (with live accompaniment), transcriptions (of your favorite songs), and learning from the book. Looking back, I progressed immensely under Dennis’s tutelage, from barely playing barre chords to writing my own music in different modes! It certainly doesn’t hurt that Dennis treats his students as equals, and that his home is always welcoming. He’s invested, not the type of teacher to chase you off once your “time’s up.” If I hadn’t gone off to college, I’d still be taking lessons from him for sure! Highly recommend to anyone who is looking for enjoyable, enriching guitar lessons.

Dennis has a great comprehensive approach to teaching guitar. He helps you understand the nuances of the instrument, and provides specific instruction based on your individual needs. He has a wealth of experience and knowledge, and shares anecdotes about those experiences to help better understand topics relevant to your own personal pursuit of improved playing.

Even if you aren't sure exactly what you want to get out of lessons, Dennis is quick to provide material that will help you improve your skills. They are laid out in a clear way and act as a great resource to add to your collection of practice material.

I'm happy I took lessons with Dennis, and others should definitely work with him if looking for a laid back atmosphere and a steady pace of improvement and understanding.

My son (8) and daughter (6) have been taking piano lessons with Josh and they've both been having a lot of fun AND learning a lot. Josh keeps it light, but makes sure that his students are learning the theory needed to really progress. I would HIGHLY recommend Josh!!!

Josh has been the most kind and patient of any instructors I have ever had! He is knowledge-able, is always finding new ways to connect the right practice and knowledge with his students, and completely dedicated in making sure the student has fun! He is good with anyone of any age and music range and will always take the time to review. I sadly could not continue with him due to my schedule and inability to make the time to practice and attend lessons, but I would recommend him to any aspiring musician looking to enhance his/her musical abilities. You cannot get any better than Josh!

"Great teach!

Eric is a great teacher. I had taken lessons from someone else several years ago. Eric was immediately able to adjust to my skill level, and pushed me further in just a few weeks than I had ever hoped. He's very patient, yet is always getting me to get better.

He's great, communication-wise. He's even sent me vids, showing me how to tackle problems.

His knowledge is incredible. But the important thing is that he shares what he knows - technique, rock, blues, classics, theory -- it's all there!

Bottom line - if you want to improve, Eric's your only choice."

"My son is 7 years of age and has never received any music lessons. I bought him a guitar for his birthday and he was just happy to play with it without any guitar lessons. I convinced him otherwise. I did not know what to expect from Glenn. I knew about him because he was highly recommended in our Long Beach neighborhood. I signed my son up and after a few minutes of being with Glenn, my son was hooked. He came away from his first 30 minute session saying, “wow…I did not know I could play the guitar!”. My son was so excited. As a parent…that is very exciting! I was sold! I was amazed how he was able to pick up what Glenn taught him within that first lesson. Glenn made it fun. The atmosphere was very relaxed and his style of teaching clicked with my son right away. After basically 12 sessions, my son was able to perform at a musical recital Glenn hosted for his students. Not only was I proud of my son, I also got to see kids of all ages and adults performing that day and it was pretty impressive. Overall, I highly recommend Glenn. He is able to keep my 7 year old boy focused and teaches him effectively while making it fun!

"Richie D, teaching a lefty how to play guitar in a right handed world

I started taking guitar lessons with Richie having no previous experience with playing an instrument or reading music. Being left handed I was having difficulty making sense of the beginner guitar books and thought I'd give personal lessons a try.

Richie quickly taught me the basics of guitar and how to read music. Over the last 2-1/2 years he has helped me overcome my lack of rhythm, has taught me music theory, how to structure songs and techniques of soloing in various scales.

I've enjoyed getting out in my spare time and watching Richie perform in his acoustic and blues bands and have developed a new appreciation of music.

I now practice/play daily for enjoyment and only wish that my job wasn't taking me away from this area. Otherwise, I would be continuing my lessons with Richie for years to come."

He is very resourceful and knowledgeable so he can teach a lot of different genres from classical to the pop songs we hear today. His ability to teach makes it easy for me to learn and understand songs and pieces. Not only that, Alex cares about my progress and makes sure that I'm not confused or lost about any of the material he teaches me. What Age is Best to Start Learning Guitar?

Is there a best age for learning guitar? We asked guitar teacher Linda L., who has taught young children, teens, adults, and seniors for her take... My opinion on the best age at which to start learning guitar has evolved over the years. I started teaching myself to play the guitar at the age of 14. The book that I used to teach myself featured photos of a 7-year-old girl demonstrating how each chord was to be played. The author of the book told the readers that he had this youn …
