About Robert
Creativity, skill and love of music are the key elements that I work to encourage in every student. Over the years my teaching has evolved and I find it gratifying to take people far beyond their own expectations while helping them achieve their goals. I believe everyone is musical and just needs the right key to tap into their own creativity.

For beginners it's important to study with an excellent teacher. Setting a solid and creative foundation makes all the difference!
For advanced players studying with a great artist takes you greater artistry.

Weekly private lessons focus on technical skills in either piano, voice (or a combination of both) and a strong musical foundation. Theory and Ear Training are fundamentals that are embedded in this approach to developing a complete musician and artist.

I have over 20 years exper
ience working with students as young as 3 and old as 85! Often multiple generations in a family study together making for a rich family experience.

Performance opportunities: Recitals, Concerts Cabarets and Musicals are a part of developing into a musician and singer and enhancing a love of music that will last a lifetime!

Piano - Classical, Jazz, Blues and Improvisation. Current students are beginners to professional musicians and music teachers.

Voice – I am an accomplished vocal coach and songwriter and currently work with a wide variety of singers from young beginners to professionals who look to develop through ear training, singing and songwriting. In a unique way I guide people to become better performers and musicians through the combination of voice, piano and composition.

I work with students as young as 3 or 4 and into their 80’s. It’s important to begin with an excellent teacher from the start to set a good foundation and to have the ability to develop as quickly and thoroughly as possible. I enjoy working with beginners as well as accomplished musicians. I also believe that music is one of the great joys of life and that lessons should be FUN!

Besides a wide variety of performance opportunities through my Family to Family Concerts, I also offer my students the curriculum and exams of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, a gold standard music curriculum.. The ABRSM is accredited in over 100 countries worldwide and exams are offered twice per year in all instruments and voice.

A message from Robert: Hello, I am a master teacher focusing on the classical repertoire along with a very creative approach to improvisation and composition. I help students to achieve their interests of music rather than focusing on teaching one particular method. Classes are tailored to the student and constantly evolving. This has led me to work in a variety of mediums and styles including Jazz, improvisation, rock and blues. This approach also enhances an understanding and love of classical music.
I also guide my students in the curriculum and exams of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. (ABRSM) Exams are offered twice per year.
I have also found it inspiring to work with people with disabilities and help them find a way to express themselves musically. I give lectures and workshops in the area and around the country on improvisation and creativity along with concerts of my own music.
I also work with a number of students in vocal coaching and accompanying.
New this year are seminars in songwriting for adults and children. Groups of 4-5 collaborate on new songs. Film and video composition coming soon!

About David
Since beginning his teaching career in 1974 David has taught 7000 people how to play guitar! Some aspiring only to play at home for fun and others to pursue a career in the entertainment industry.

David F. has also taught advanced guitar and music theory to several professional musicians who already play other instruments fluently including Oscar nominee Scott Rogness, who co-wrote and performed the songs featured in the movie That Thing You Do. Scott had this to say about his study with David:

"I studied with David for about 8 months. Although proficient on keyboards, a singer and songwriter; I had never learned the guitar. I knew a lot about the guitar by osmosis, but technically was green. David let me look at the guitar in a whole new way, using infinite variations on basic chords, showed me how to move and follow vocal mel
odies and challenged me to SEE what I was playing. All at the speed of thought."

Scott Rogness
Singer/Songwriter/Keyboardist/Guitarist

David F. plays a custom built guitar with Bartoline electronics made by Jay Rhyne in Atlanta, GA. For live performances, David uses a Roland Guitar Synth and an Apple PowerBook with Logic audio for mixing his arsenal of software synthesizers and samplers, as well as Guitar Rig for guitar effects processing. When in Nashville contact David F. for private guitar lessons.

I am always looking for the band that will allow me to express myself, my influences include Hendrix, Page, Dimeola, Weather Report, Chick Corea, Emerson Lake and Palmer, and many others.

I read music and charts, and between practicing, teaching, playing, and recording, I have spent 80+ hours a week for the past 34 years with a guitar. I like to soar in the wind when I am playing."

Almost all of my students learn bar chords and how to use them in song they want to play in the first hour of lesson time.

Almost all of my students begin in the first lesson with songs like Little Wing and Georgia On My Mind, and Stairway To Heaven, with the right chords in sheet music form. Once you learn how to do that you can begin to take yourself through songbooks, if you learn how to use the printed music, there is a vast amount of it available everywhere.

Almost all of my students are reading melodies using real notation by the 4th or 5th lesson. Reading melodies they like and want to play. Although my students know how to use tab, Notation is the best way and they all prefer it, once they know the difference. Like the Stairway To Heaven Solo, or any of the beautiful Spanish melodies from J.Rodrigo, or blues ,jazz, rock and roll, once you can read, you can read anything in print on your own.

All of my students learn rhythm skills playing scales and songs with a metronome, so you learn how to play in time, as you develop stronger rhythm skills you can play better alone or with other people.

All of my students learn the Music Theory. What Time Signatures are and mean, Scales and scale harmonization. Chord progressions and playing through the chord changes. All of these and more are the fundamentals you will begin to work on in the first 4-5 hours of lessons with me.
I just don't show you songs, I teach you to teach yourself and begin to become musically independent.
Work on picking and speed and most importantly touch and feel.
Work on Finger picking as well, learn to use all 5 fingers on your right hand. or use the pick and 3 fingers, with me you WILL use your pinky or little finger.
By 3-4 months we will have covered the fundamentals and be working on more advanced material, songs and technique.

I have increased my lesson frequency to two one-hour sessions per week simply because of my progress under David's direction. After only three months of weekly lessons, I can now read music and play while reading. David has introduced me to effective melodic soloing, has significantly improved my understanding of barre chords up and down the fretboard, and has convinced me to abandon "guitaristic" thinking in favor of really understanding the potential of the guitar beyond shape memorization.

For those players serious about music, who are willing to devote the time and attention required to improve, and who appreciate not only learning to play guitar but the theory and history behind the music, David is your man. I have taken lessons in the past, usually consisting of a teacher asking what riffs I wanted to work on that day. Sound familiar? Not David. Within the first two weeks, he has me focused on plucking the strings with more feel, using a pick and fingers simultaneously with my right hand, practicing scales to the tempo of a metronome while using the forwards and backwards technique, etc. He has convinced me that I can become as accomplished a player as I put my mind and heart to. His mantra is to work towards playing at the speed of thought, which, for the first time in my life, looks to be a possibility with time. Thank you, David.

It is different play live than play in a session. Nobody teach you this until you have usually your first session and sometimes it is very disappointing . It is totally a different to play in a recording studio than on stage.
I teach not just drummers but also bands how to prepare to record.
How to prepare for a recording session. How to rehearse before this important moment and what is really important moment.

About Enrique
I truly enjoy teaching and have many years of experience teaching students of all levels and ages.

I try to teach my students how important it is to listen to themselves play. When appropriate, I bring a guitar or bass (depending on the student's need) and help the student learn how drums relate to the rest of the music. I want all of my students to enjoy playing and to have music as a tool for life: one that helps them express themselves, think creatively, learn specific and technical skills, and grow musically. I believe all people can benefit from learning to play an instrument. If you or your child believe that music can provide a new way to find meaning and joy in life while learning a valuable skill, please contact me.

In addition, I have successfully taught many students who have had trouble in school due to lack of motivati
on and/or learning disabilities. Drum/percussion lessons have reawakened these discouraged students' desire to learn and I am happy to adjust my teaching style for any disabilities or difficulties a student may have. I am happy to provide references from parents whose children were struggling in other areas of life and who looked forward to a music lesson when all else seemed to be a chore.

More information: My recent recordings include top-selling Mexican pop artist Yuridia's newest album, Entre Mariposas, produced by his longtime collaborator Javier Calderon, and I have shared credits with Kenny Aronoff and James East.

Winner , San Diego Music Awards with the band Skelpin.

Percussionist of Manolito Gypsy (Gypsy Kings).

Classes are 30, 45 or 60 minutes, depending on age and ability. I give lessons at your home or in my home studio.

I will start by talking to the student and/or parent about what the student would like to accomplish from the lessons and what, if any, musical background the student already has. It's OK if you don't have any experience at all.

The first class is when I focus on understanding how the student learns. Everyone learns differently and is motivated differently, so I make it a point to get to know what makes the student tick. During the first lesson, we will do some basic exercises so I can pinpoint where they are, and I'll assign skills to practice for the next class.

If the class is taught at my home studio, I record it for the student to refer to during the week. I assign exercises for every class, so please plan to practice at least 15 minutes per day while you are taking lessons.

Finally, I offer a recording opportunity for students who are writing songs and would like to learn recording skills. This is an option for advanced students, students who are looking to record a demo, or for young students who would like to preserve their new accomplishments on an audio file that can be given as a gift.

I have years of Recording experience with my Analog 8-track 1/2" Tascam system, Audacity Digital Multitrack software, and Sound Forge Mastering software. I can help you with your own Software to Mix, Produce, and Master your own Songs. I have knowledge of Microphone placement, Effects processing, Decisions on Location and Floor/Wall materials.

About Benjamin
Hello Future Students!

I recently moved from NYC to Ypsilanti - very close to Ann Arbor where I was born. 10 years on the East Coast and another 10 before that in Chicago has helped me develop Networking, Performance and Teaching. Whether you want to pursue a Musical Career or simply learn how to Play your Favorite Tunes for friends and family, I am here as your Teacher and Guide. I teach at my own home or through the use of Skype. I hope to get my Car fixed soon!

As a Father of four, I have had the joy in teaching my children Guitar, Saxophone, Songwriting, Composition and Keyboard. As a parent I have found that Patience and Encouragement is sometimes the best form of support. It has been proven that learning Music helps develop intuition, self-awareness, and social skills as well as improve in other subjects not directly related
to the arts such as Mathematics and Science.

One of the most important aspects of playing Music is being able to Play by Ear. This has been a priceless gift that I have developed throughout my life and I encourage all musicians, young and old, to do the same. The use of simple Rhythmic Dictation and Ear Training exercises can do wonders for "picking out" Beats and Harmonies no matter what Genre we are interested in.

I attended music courses at The Boston School of Contemporary Music, Thomas Jefferson College (MI), and have a BA double majoring in Music Composition and English at Columbia College Chicago.

Besides touring internationally as a Guitarist and Saxophonist, I am a Songwriter. THIRD BORDER's "Sun of Water; Sea of Light" was selected to be nominated for the Grammy's as The Best Alternative Album of the Year in 2006. On this record, I played Guitar, Saxophone, sang Lead Vocal and wrote all Songs. So, if you are a songwriter, we can polish up your approach!

If you would like to learn how to compose a Solo, a Duet or Ensemble, I can get you started in a low-stress, one-step-at-a-time procedure. As a Composer, I have done Sound Design for Film, Dance, Spoken Word and Multi-media Performance - most notably with renowned poet Anne Carson and former members of The Merce Cunningham Dance Co. I am Composer and Conductor for New York City's first full-on Saxophone Orchestra; a 13-member ensemble.

I hope to talk to you soon!
Benjamin

My teaching style is relaxed with a forte on Patience and Encouragement. Though I have specific expectations on what needs to be learned, I gear each lesson towards the student's wishes and their personal direction in Creativity. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced student, I can guide you wherever you are headed!

For Guitar (acoustic or electric), you will learn the fundamentals of Music Theory, Chord Structure, varied Strumming and Picking Techniques, and Scale Positions to travel from one part of the neck to the other. Any song you wish to learn, I can teach!

For Saxophone, you will learn proper Embouchure technique, Notation, Music Theory, and Scale Patterns for improvisation. Whether you are interested in a Classical, Blues, Funk or Jazz approach, I can help you find your own sound that is both personal and professional.

I teach 2nd year Piano and Drums/Percussion directing you into Intermediate level.

For those leaning toward the experimental genres, I am well-versed in the use of Electronics. Much can be accomplished with my lessons on Sound-Scape Improvisation either as 1 on 1 or Group Workshops.

*** Studio Equipment ***
At Home Studio: music stands, metronome, guitar amps, electric and acoustic guitars, guitar tablature, staff music paper, a scanner for weekly homework. I can also record and send MP3s of our lessons to review at home if you wish.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Students will need their own instrument, a mutually chosen music book to learn from, a metronome, and hopefully easy access to a keyboard (very helpful!)

*** Specialties ***
I am fluent in Rock genres, Blues, Beginning Jazz, Beginning Classical technique, Prepared Guitar, Electronics/Sound Art.

I begun my extensive research and hands on training in the field of music recording and audio engineering almost a decade ago.

I have the ability to pass on my knowledge of how sound works, as well as how to manipulate and control sound so you can create the high quality recordings that you have always dreamed of.

Whether you're just now beginning or you've been doing it for years, these private lessons will push you to your highest potential and maximize your drive, allowing you to access the next stage of your musical endeavors!
_________________________________

Musicianship as a child was very exhilarating and stimulating so I like to put as much energ
y and excitement into each lesson as possible. Even if there are no signs of progress, the most important thing is to encourage the student because getting better at your instrument is exponential and will usually start off sluggish.

My first steps into getting to know the student better is to begin with having them choose a style of music that they like and play along with some of their favorite artists, in order for them to loosen up and get excited for learning. When I feel the student is fully comfortable and ready to begin our learning process, I will also have them play along with a style more complex, or out of their comfort zone, if you will. This establishes a sub conscious goal that they will want to reach every time they pick up their instrument which result in long-term commitment, respect and understanding of music.

Been teaching guitar for over a decade. I cater the lessons to the individual and what they are looking to get out of them. I played lead guitar and keys in several bands before starting my solo thing. I will give you all the tools you need to be great.

Thanks,
Nathan

About Jeremy
Hi, my name is Jeremy. I'm a musician/composer living in Brooklyn. I have degrees in Drum Set Performance and Film Scoring from Berklee College of Music, and I am a multi instrumentalist, gigging primarily on drums, percussion and bass. I also perform and record on guitar and keyboard, and occasionally play ukulele, violin, clarinet, trumpet, and sing. I also produce, mix, and engineer recordings, and compose music for film, television, and video games in professional recording studios and at my own in-home setup.

My teaching style is very natural, and I like to emphasize the fact that music itself is natural and fun! I draw upon my extensive history of studying many instruments, and use all the best lessons that I was taught, along with some of my own ideas, to help students find the fastest, easiest, and most enjoyable way to improve
and make the sounds that they want to hear.

I have also trained in the Alexander Technique and in sports-focused physical therapy, which aids me in identifying and helping students solve technique problems that are causing issues with playing, or which could cause pain or injury down the line. So far (knock wood) I have not had any student suffer from the repetitive stress injuries which affect so many musicians.

I have been teaching lessons on multiple instruments for over 10 years, and my goal as a teacher is to help you reach your goals, and have fun on the way!

Jeremy has been teaching me both Bass and Guitar.
We have been attacking theory from both sides so you can easily see how instruments relate to one another. Any difficulties and he is there to help you along.
