This is the first lesson I got to listen to of my son working with Nathan. Usually I'm not home from work. I am really impressed with how much he was able to help my son improve so quickly. I wish we had started this much sooner.

Hello and welcome to my studio!

Due to current events, I am more than willing to teach you online! I promise you will get the same quality of lessons as all my current students either started or switched to online lessons. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask through the Takelessons ask-a-question feature on the front of my profile.

Your first lesson begins with breathing exercises as we need air to play trumpet. Proper posture, embouchure, and making a nice sound will come next. And later we will work on the more intricate aspects of trumpet playing such as articulations and range, while learning new songs!

If you are already familiar with the basics of playing trumpet, we will work on the specific areas you want to work on.

I'm glad you have decided to take trumpet lessons and look forward to helping you make great music! So what are you waiting for? Let's get started!

About Andrew

Hello and welcome to my studio! As a teacher, I want nothing more than my students to be happy playing music while attaining their goals. With the recent pandemic going around, I know that many parents and students are concerned about meeting for lessons in person, and rightfully so. That bei

I just want to start out by saying Andrew is flexible with scheduling. It’s very helpful. But my son enjoys the lessons with Andrew. He said Andrew taught how to breathe better and can’t wait until the next lesson.

I am a very mature(read old) student and I had been wanting to learn to play the trombone. The catch was that I had never taken lessons and could not read music. Pasquale was absolutely unflapped by this. He had the patience of a saint, had the ability to make me feel comfortable and was 1000% encouraging in my quest. Oh and also by the way...he knows his stuff and is gifted in his ability to teach it in a way that I could understand and be comfortable. I highly recommend taking lessons from him!!!

My son was having struggling with the French horn and school instruction wasn't enough to help him get ahead. Pasquale helped him master his assignments as well as helped him with his technique and being more consistent with his notes. Definitely recommend Pasquale for lessons.

I believe that music should be fun, and that each student will find their own passions within music. Discipline, awareness, and creativity walk hand-in-hand when it comes to learning the trumpet. My teaching approach focuses on the body mechanics of playing the trumpet, and developing musicality via ear training. Practice pays off, and I can show you how to effectively practice.

"Ms. Laverty has been my son’s private trumpet teacher since the summer of 2012. She is patient, kind and very supportive of his efforts in playing the trumpet. In large part, she is the reason that my son enjoys playing trumpet and continues to thrive as a musician.

From the beginning she tailored her lessons to include the music that my son was interested in and also added increasingly more complex music to work on and master.

Sandra has taped him playing during lessons to show him how and where he can improve in body position, quality of sound and other nuances. She regularly uses her laptop computer to show videos of performances that support the lesson and also assigns various Internet sites to view for exposure to other musicians and styles.

Sandra regularly provides opportunities for my son to perform in public. He has performed at the annual CMEA event at San Jose State University, and other smaller events where he played solo on stage. They have both joined in at a local café for practice in improvisation, as my son loves to play jazz. This has really helped in his jazz solo opportunities at school. She has also organized a quartet of student trumpet players to work together on various music pieces and then they all performed together for family and friends. This was a unique experience for the children to practice and play together and perform as a group.

My son is also interested in basketball and baseball, and Sandra has been very flexible in scheduling lessons to accommodate my son’s athletic and school schedules. After about 6 months of lessons, she offered twice a week lessons to capitalize on my son’s enthusiasm and increase the speed of musical advancement so his confidence soared and he wanted to play more because he liked doing something he felt he was good at. He kept this schedule for about a year and then back to once a week to allow for more time for other interests.

During middle school, my son played trumpet in both the Advanced Band and also Jazz Band classes. This past summer, Sandra again offered twice weekly lessons to get ready for his high school debut. As a result, he was chosen to play first chair in the high school jazz band. He was also one of only two freshmen that were accepted into the most advanced band class (also known at Wind Ensemble) at Lincoln High School.

I recommend Sandra Laverty, without reservation, for any trumpet teaching opportunity."
