Ear training is the first, and most important skill a musician needs. I have been learning and studying ear training my whole life, and it is a huge part of my life as a musician. From singing, to recognizing pitches, to writing out melodies I hear, to improvising - the basis of all of this is ear training. I strive to help students develop these skills as well.

New York-born Flutist Amanda is a versatile performer active as a soloist, orchestral and chamber musician. Amanda was most recently named the first place winner of the National Society of Arts and Letters Woodwind Competition in Washington, DC. She has also received first place awards in the Best

absolutely wonderful.

She encourages, she finds analogies to explain, she is more patient with me then I am with myself. She also explains the terms, gives tips on how to read the notes. She is able to identify the mistakes and give the right advice on how to improve. Her advice on how to practice made all the difference for me. I started with a giant cookie bite sized embouchure and within a few lessons I have managed to make it smaller thanks to her instructions. There is hope for me afterall.
Looking forward to playing a duet with her without me making a mess. Thank you Amanda!
Mike
Amanda is an outstanding teacher. She inspires and challenges me to play pieces I did not think I could play. She is able to take difficult passages and break them down step my step so I can learn how to play them properly. I am sure I would not be playing as I am now, if it weren’t for Amanda’s skilled teaching. She is also friendly, makes the lessons interesting and fun and is very professional. I have taken lessons both in person and on Skype and she excels in both modes.

She is an amazing teacher and you should have her as your instructor she taught me all I know about classical piano so I thank her for that.

I had a great first lesson with Jessica. The lesson took place in a comfortable studio in her house. We discussed my goals and then reviewed where I am currently. She paid carefully attention to my body position with the bow and had several great suggestions on exercises to improve it. I'm already looking forward to the next lesson.

Training our ear is one of the most important and often overlooked skills we need as musicians. My experience with teaching ear training extends from beginners to advanced college level coursework. I cater the lessons to your interests and goals, which may include:

Improving pitch/intonation and rhythm
Harmonic, melodic, and rhythmic dictations (useful for college admissions tests)
Sight singing/solfege
Developing perfect/relative pitch

Among many others. Whether you need help with coursework, are new to music, or just need some brushing up, we will get your ear sharpened right up!

About Phillip

I believe that the study of music is one of the most rewarding pursuits we can undertake! Whether a total beginner, college student or adult looking to brush up on skills or learn new ones, I will help you reach your goals! As a lecturer with the Tulane University Department of Music in New Orle

Phillip was an excellent oboe teacher for our middle school daughter. He determined what was causing problems with her instrument and was very focused on helping her with her band assignments.

Phillip has an easy-going and pleasant manner and will be a good match for a wide range of students.

Derek is a very knowledgable instructor, easy to talk to, and I found his teaching technique is very motivating. He set realistic practice goals for the next session, which will require me to do my part, but that's the reason we show up, to learn how to play a musical instrument.
I highly recommend him.

"Omer has been an excellent teacher! I’ve over heard several lessons with him and my son and I’m always impressed by the breath of knowledge he has. In just a few weeks my son has been inspired to play the piano for hours at a time. Originally Omer was going to teach my son violin but they switched to piano so that they could explore their common interest in composing music for film. I am immensely pleased with him and recommend him wholeheartedly!"

"Aaron has an ability to make difficult things interesting and fun. While I was at the University of Oregon, Aaron provided me private instruction for what was one of the most disliked classes amongst the undergrads. Aaron turned what used to be something that I would dread into something that was entertaining and effective. He would come with real world examples and allegories regarding music theory and composition to apply context to whatever it was we were studying. Despite my apparent deficiencies in ear training, he was not only incredibly patient but also very effective in helping me overcome my challenges and earn a passing grade."
