I mentioned to Gregory specifically I wanted to learn, which was GarageBand for iPad. He told me he taught middle schoolers and to book with him. I asked for more specificity on could he teach this exact thing, to make sure there was no confusion (please check the conversation he and I had within the takelessons website) and he kept saying book with me. I did.

He may know a thing or two about GarageBand (I don't know that for sure), but he knew very little about iPad GarageBand. It was a complete waste of my time. In text messages I said to him that I would not give him a bad review, but I was going to ask for a refund. He said thank you for not leaving a bad review. But then he wouldn't allow refund. Good God!

So here we are. He wasted 2.5 hours of my time, cost me parking in the city, didn't teach me literally anything, and he wouldn't give up the 50 bucks

All that said, now here I am having to take more of my time that could be used for productive purposes, to have to write a bad review. He really deserves this.

Very nice. It would have been better if I knew what books to purchase ahead of time. To maximize the lesson time, teacher should send expectations and tips for success to students ahead so preparation can take place. Be sure to have your own equipment too.

About Susan
Acting – I have taught all kinds of acting, including Audition Skills, Shakespeare, Stage, Film & TV, Dramatic, Comedic, whatever. I also have quite a bit of experience performing in all those arenas. I have a relationship with one of the best management agencies in the area, so my students get fast-tracked with her.

Voice – Anyone can sing. If you want to and have always thought you couldn't, you will be delighted when I prove you wrong. Training for the voice is pretty much the same, whatever style you are interested in. Then I'll coach you in your chosen style and we'll pick songs you like.

Singing beautifully is not enough. I can't tell you how many times I heard in grad school "beautiful voices are a dime a dozen." I will teach you how to OWN the song. That's what keeps people coming back.

Speaking – Every public spe
aker I know has lost their voice at some point, but not from talking too much. It's because they don't know how to use their voice properly. Learn that, and you need never lose your voice to over-use. That's easy to teach.

Writing – I have been a professional writer and editor for over eight years, with many books, articles, posts, newsletters, etc. to my name. I use – and teach – practical grammar, not just correct grammar. I can also help you make your words more powerful.

I've been taking lessons with Susan Scher for about two months now. I can easily say I've been impressed at how much I've improved. I look forward to lessons every week. I feel that soon enough I'll be able to audition for roles in film and television. If you live in the Baltimore area and are interested in voice acting or any acting in general. Contact her and go, you won't be disappointed.

I did not know what to expect when I signed up to take classes with Susan. I decided to take classes with her for two reasons: Her studio is not far from me and 2, the good reviews left by her clients. All I wanted was to learn the fundamentals and techniques about acting. Susan was excellent and very patient. She offered water in each lesson, which is also very kind. Her interpersonal connection brings a sense of comfort. Her studio is very neat and welcoming. I do not have regrets in my selections and I know you won't be disappointed too.

It was my daughter's first contact with professional acting.
She has been talking about being an actress for quite a while now, so we decided to let her take a few lessons to see if she likes it.
Ollie was really comprehensive of our needs and made us see the big picture of that world... just what we needed, to start walking into that direction on the right path.
My daughter had a wonderful time with Ollie.

I booked 4 acting sessions with Ms. Ollie for my daughter. Ms. Ollie did a phenomenal job starting from scratch, coaching my daughter for her up coming audition. My daughter had no acting experience, she was shy, and soft spoken but in just 4 short days, Ms. Ollie turned her into a confident, outspoken young actress. My daughter nailed her audition thanks to Ollie!! I will highly recommend her as your acting coach.

About Josh
I'm a researcher with 8 years of tutoring experience and spent a gap year directing an after-school tutoring program for at-risk youth. Over the years I've tutored dozens of students (in subjects ranging from biology, math, and earth science to English writing, SAT prep, and statistics) and have yet to come across someone whose grades did not significantly improve after our time working together. I'm more than happy to provide references to anyone looking to hear more about my past work.

I'm passionate about tutoring because I believe every student has the potential to thrive in an academic environment. Unfortunately, many students aren't taught in way that helps them achieve conceptual mastery or don't get enough individual attention in the classroom. That's why I believe in the power of the personal, individualized tutoring relationshi
p. When a tutor, I focus on a few things:

1) Concept Mastery - I work to help students understand that it's not enough to just understand how to solve a problem, but that you also need to understand why that solution works. If you have a deep conceptual mastery over the material, you'll be able to solve new kinds of problems with those same skills, even if you haven't encountered a problem like it before.

2) Academic Confidence – I’m always surprised by the number of students that I work with who honestly believe they aren’t smart or capable enough to succeed in school. So, part of my job as a tutor is to help those students understand that hard work and confidence are the key to success, so matter how difficult they find the work initially.

3) Love of Learning – This is perhaps the most important element to me. My favorite teachers were not the ones who managed to cram the most amount of information in my head, but those who helped me be excited about the subjects they taught. As a tutor, I work with students to develop excitement about the subject matter and a love of learning more generally.

Finally, here’s a bit more information about me. Currently, I'm a public health researcher at a large non-profit, and specialize in systematic reviews and project evaluation. I studied Sociology and Public Policy at UNC Chapel Hill. I graduated summa cum laude and received a Chancellor's award for excellence in my field of study. In the new few years, I plan to go back for a PhD in clinical psychology. I look forward to working with you or your student!

Josh was a very patient and a hands on tutor. He took time to get to know each student in order to better assist them personally. He had good boundaries with the students and was able to stay professional while being able to have fun with them. We saw personal gains based on the VA SOL test scores at the end of the school year after his assistance.

Both of my sons went from F’s to B’s with Josh’s help. We had all pretty much given up that they would be able to get good grades in math. We were just hoping Josh could get them to pass. We can’t say enough about Josh’s clear, understandable and relevant guidance. Yes, they got great grades, but he also made them feel confident in their abilities to do the work. He is wonderful!

I am a professor in French with a PhD from Princeton University and a bachelors from the College of William and Mary. I've taught all levels of French at Princeton over the past six years. As a researcher I'm an expert on Paris, street art, and parkour. I can tell you anything you want to know about French architecture. While I don't actually do graffiti or parkour, I do participate in a lot of theater and have acted in and directed plays in French and English. I've traveled all over the world to study French theater, even to Tokyo, and I have come to the conclusion that everyone would benefit from watching theater in languages they don't understand.

Macs is a marvelously effective teacher. I took French language classes under him in Paris and Avignon as a part of a larger program in France, and at the time, I had absolutely no experience with the language. Macs accomplished the impossible task of making proficient French speakers of me and a few other beginners as quickly as possible, so that we could buy food, understand daily French theater performances, and keep up with class discussions and lectures (the main parts of the program). Lessons with Macs were efficient, productive, and enjoyable. I still to this day have a better grasp on the language than friends who have spent much longer in French classes, all thanks to Macs.

Macs was the best language teacher I've ever had. Not only does he epitomize professionalism, but he finds a way to connect with each of his students on a personal level and get the best out of them. I've watched Macs teach students of all levels, and all of us found him engaging, energetic, and deeply knowledgable. Macs' vast repertoire of pedagogic techniques, games, and other ways to invigorate his lesson plans made sure that every lesson was new, fun, and interesting, while managing to actually articulate important information as well. I could go on and on... In a group or one-on-one setting, I can't recommend Macs enough.

I cannot recommend Macs highly enough! I was lacking so much confidence before I started lessons with him, and he has helped me grow so much. I now feel confident in all areas of French, especially speaking, and he has managed to give me a strong grasp of grammar along the way! I never felt like I had to work hard, everything was so natural and he put me so much at ease that it felt like just a normal conversation with a friend, but I learnt so much grammar along the way! His explanations are always super clear and he really knows his stuff, but it never feels boring. He has loads of exciting and different ways of teaching, from theatre exercises to watching YouTube clips, but also manages to make sure you reach your goals and learn everything on your syllabus. Really really friendly and helpful teacher and such a kind guy, I would absolutely recommend Macs!!
