Modern guitar music is often filled with heavy effects that mask the natural tone of the instrument.
A well played acoustic guitar can blend into any musical environment. Bluegrass, Folk, Jazz, Blues, Funk, Rock, and Metal, or any cutural/ world musc. And yet, it's an instrument which needs no accompaniment.
Make your guitar sing by learning good technique, creative rhythmic picking and strumming, and unique chord voicings. Develop sight reading, improvisation, and composition. Within just a few lessons, you can expect results in learning a song of your choice, and understanding the songwriting choices made by your favorite artists.

During that time, I've developed a diverse, flexible approach to teaching that is customized to the needs and interests of each of my students. Jason tailors the course to a student's individual learning pace and needs. There is also a good combination between theory and learning cords to play a song. Technique is emphasized to build good habits and a foundation for future growth.

Whatever our goals may be in learning to play a musical instrument, the experience and skills we gain in doing so can serve us in every area of our li
ves.

I started taking lessons with Roger almost an year ago. I was completely clueless when I signed up for classes. He convinced me that I can play a musical instrument. He has guided me a lot throughout. From picking up a guitar, to teaching me my first song. He is very passionate about music and that shows from his work as a musician and as a teacher. Roger tries to make sure that his students love music the same way he does. As a teacher he is very patient and flexible. He tailors each class to his student's needs.
He is one of the greatest teacher I have worked with. I really look forward to my lesson every week.

Roger teaches our 8 year-old daughter introduction lessons for guitar. His casual approach and friendly demeanor are a perfect approach. Our daughter anticipates weekly interaction with Roger; she considers him a friend who plays guitar games and patiently listens to her stories while they play.

Roger is both a skilled musician and measured teacher focused on the long-game of loving music rather than immediate gains. We are very please with his work.

Roger was my first guitar teacher, and one of the best teachers that I've had the pleasure to work with. As a professional guitarist, I have had the chance to look back on when I was studying with Roger and compare my opinion now to the opinion I had while I was studying with him. My opinion now is the same as it was back then: Roger is an exceptionally capable and talented educator. He is very easy to work with and is always flexible in each lesson. Flexibility is important; an ideal teacher will have lesson plans with specific skills that he/she feels the student needs to learn, but they will also allow the student's current interests to guide the lessons. Roger was always happy to address any questions or concerns I had, but also made sure to guide my attention to critical skills that helped me grow as a musician. One such skill is proper technique, which is necessary for improving the student's ability to play and for preventing injury. With his background as a classical guitarist, Roger was able to teach me perfect left and right hand technique, which is something I still consider to be one of my strongest assets as a guitarist. His skills and interests extend far beyond classical guitar into genres like rock and jazz. In our lessons we would work on just about anything. We covered topics and styles like Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Wes Montgomery, improvisation, James Taylor's fingerstyle playing, music theory, and sight reading. Overall, I found Roger to be an ideal teacher for students at any skill level, from total beginners to those who are highly experienced.

David enjoys teaching students from all different backgrounds and levels of proficiency. Whether you are just starting out or a virtuoso shredder in the making, he is happy to teach you! Over all, he is fairly laid back, as long as you practice. He usually combines work with reading off of the treble clef (what he likens to "eating your vegetables." You may not want to do it, but it will make you a healthier musician!) with learning more popular songs (or songs the student says they would like to learn) through tablature and chord charts, depending on the style of the song.

David is also very pro music theory. He usually incorporates music theory into the curriculum in conjunction with the material already being discussed. He is also very knowledgeable about composition/songwriting, and if the student is interested in learning more about this area, he is happy to share what he knows!

About David
David is a successful singer/songwriter/guitarist out of Baltimore, MD. He has a bachelor's degree in Music with a concentration in composition from Salisbury University, where he also studied jazz and classical guitar . In the 18 years he has been performing (13 of those professionally) and playing guitar, he has released 4 CDs and written over 200 original songs. He has opened for major national acts like Journey, Maroon 5, Toby Keith, My Chemical Romance, The Used, Thrice, Story of the Year, The Bouncing Souls, Eric Hutchinson, Virginia Coalition and Graham Colton. In the process, he has performed at such notable venues as FedEx Field, Nationals Park, Jiffy Lube Live/Nissan Pavilion, the 9:30 Club, Rams Head Live and the Recher Theatre.

As a teacher, David has taught in numerous locations in the Maryland area for the last 16 y
ears. His students generally range anywhere from 4-70+ years old and come from a wide range of backgrounds and levels of proficiency, from basic beginners to advanced. Some of his students have also gone on to pursue careers in music, others have just learned as a hobby, and some have been somewhere in between the two. All are welcome!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons in living room with couches, chairs, cables/amps, as well as extra guitars (acoustic and electric) and a bass guitar, if needed.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide amps and stands, etc if needs be. However, if they are already provided for the student's sake/in terms of the student (i.e. I'll bring the equipment needed for myself), this would be ideal.

*** Specialties ***
Pop, rock, jazz, blues, classical, metal and funk.

Rocksmith Method Music as language

About Joe
My method is a fun, energy-packed and safe environment where kids are encouraged to love God, music, their band members, and their electric guitar or bass.

My desire is to partner with parents to teach kids (6 and up) basic music skills using technology, rock, blues and worship, and this to serve as foundation for their musical growth and performances in their lives. Music as a language is our priority.
_____________________________________________________________

The Method

1) Music is a language...... By: Victor Wooten.

Both music and verbal languages serve the same purpose. They are both forms of expression.
They can be used as a way to communicate with others, they can be read and written, then can make you laugh or cry, think or question and can speak to one or many and both can definitely make you move.

"Music wor
ks better than the spoken word because it doesn't have to be understood to be effective."

In some instances, music works better than the spoken word because it doesn't have to be understood to be effective. Although many musicians agree that music is a "language" it is rarely treated as such.

Many of us treat it as something that can only be learned by following a strict regiment under the tutelage of a skilled teacher. This approach has been followed for hundreds of years with proven success... But it takes a long time. Too long.

Think about the first language you learned as a child. More importantly, think about how you learned it.

"You were allowed to make mistakes."

You were a baby when you first started speaking and even though you spoke the language incorrectly you were allowed to make mistakes - and the more mistakes you made, the more your parents smiled!

Learning to speak was not something you were sent somewhere to do only a few times a week. The majority of people you spoke to were not beginners, they were already proficient speakers. Imagine your parents forcing to only speak to other babies until you were good enough to speak to them! You'd probably be an adult before you could carry on a proper conversation.

To use a musical term, as a baby you were allowed to "jam" with professionals.

If we approach music in the same natural way we approached our first language, we would learn to speak it in the same short time it took to speak our first language.
Proof of this can be seen in almost any family where a child grows up with other musicians in the family.

Here are a few keys to follow in learning guitar or bass:

In the beginning we embrace mistakes instead of correcting them. Like a child playing air guitar there are no wrong notes.

Allow young musicians to play and perform with accomplished musicians on a daily basis.

Encourage young musicians to play more than they practice. The more they play, the more they will practice on their own.

Music comes from the musician, not the instrument.
____________________________________________________________

2) RockSmith 2014 becomes your personal accomplished musician or band for you to play in a daily basis as it monitors how you play, dynamically adjusts difficulty to your skill level, then slowly introduces more notes and phrases until you're playing your favorite songs note-for-note. Lead Rhythm and bass lines.

Rocksmith 2014 teaches you fast and effectively by letting you plug any real guitar or bass directly into your Xbox 360 games and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation3 computer entertainment system, Windows PC or Mac.

The Rocksmith Method will first make sure you can PLAY the instrument.
You will play your favorite songs.
You will learn a new technique every month.
Rocksmith is designed to match the way your guitar is laid out, so there's no need to interpret tablature or learn sheet music to get started.
Have strings on your guitar? You'll see strings on the screen....

You'll need a game console, a screen and a electric guitar or bass. It's non negotiable.

If you don't have it. I will provide you with a loaner system until you catch up.

_____________________________________________________________

3) A dedicated and passionate Teacher to tie everything together and keep you on track.

The early you start, the better. Kids age 6 or up are my best customers. They don't have adjust to anything other than to get their little fingers around a guitar appropriate to their size.
For young adults and people that tried play the guitar the old fashion way, here's my advise:

You will need to take a step back... or maybe two steps. Let me show you a better way.

These 3 things changes everything in how to learn or teach guitar. This is just to start the journey. I won't even mention custom songs or our musician club for you to perform your songs.

"If music is a language. You should never stop talking."

Remember that a language works the best when we have something interesting to say.
Many music teachers never find out what their students have to say. We only tell them what they are supposed to say.
A child speaks a language for years before they even learn the alphabet.
Too many rules at the onset will actually slow them down.
In my eyes the approach to music should be the same.

After all, music is a language too.

Let's Play & Grow Together.

___________________________________________________________________

Private guitar and bass lessons are designed for students to progress at their own pace. Private lessons will follow the same RockSmith Journey structure. In a private guitar or bass lesson, the teacher has the opportunity to help the student individually for the entire lesson time, and structures each lesson personally for the student depending on their skill level and goals.

While teaching bass is my specialty, I've been teaching guitar for 4 years and have amassed quite the collection. The overwhelming majority of my students at the shops I teach at take lessons on guitar, so most of my time is actually spent teaching guitar. In lessons, we'll cover basic chords, scales, and rhythms, as well as some introductory music theory so the student knows why they're playing what they play.

About Tommy
My name is Tommy. I've been playing bass and guitar since I was 11 years old. When I was in high school, I won my school's Duke Ellington Jazz Performance Award my junior year. Around this time I began to work at my neighborhood's local lesson shop Let's Play Music! off of W Broad Street in Falls Church, VA. Following high school, I attended the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York City, studying jazz bass performance with players who have played and recorded with John Coltrane, Miles Davis, and Bobby McFerrin, among others. I received my degree in Jazz Bass Performance and since returning to the DC area have taught at Let's Play Music, Bach 2 Rock, and Music and Arts. Outside of my academic accomplishments, I play in and record a number of bands. I play out at different venues from Richmond to Baltimore regularly and ha
ve gone on tour twice before. I specialize in electric bass and music theory, but am quite comfortable teaching beginner to intermediate guitar.

Brian immediately knew how to adapt to my profile.... not too young, not too talented, not too available, and without any ambition about playing on stage or in a group. I've been learning bass guitar for one month and a half with him, starting at a beginner's level. Last week-end I was able to play a few songs more or less correctly with some friends at a party. I have been playing guitar for almost 12 years now. I have helped many musicians for their auditions into various music schools and programs and each have been granted acceptance, some even received scholarship. I am currently studying music for a degree in music education with an emphasis on guitar pedagogy. I also like to teach and incorporate elements regarding ear training and music theory. Music is very personal and should be treated as such, therefore I believe the student should have a wide latitude of input for what they wish to learn and goals they deem fit to achieve. I am truly driven towards playing and spreading the love of playing music and will help the student reach their highest potential possible. I can teach blues, rock, pop, jazz, and classical.

About Taylor
Music is a world within itself, your instrument a microcosm of that world which you create. There are no rules, no limits except the ones you put on yourself. This idea means volumes to me and the ability to pass on this feeling to someone else is beyond success to me. I love to teach and am willing to go wherever the student wants to go and give them the necessary tools in order to build the world they want to create. I have been playing for almost 12 years and have a lot to share that I've learned over that time. I teach blues, rock, pop, jazz, funk, R&B, and classical styles as well as improvisation the the necessary music theory and ear training to go along with it. I can also teach elements of songwriting if the student wishes to song write. I have helped students with their auditions into various music schools and programs all of wh
ich they have been accepted into, some even receiving scholarship. I have also tutored students from freshman in college to juniors in college in music theory and ear training. I have played with various jazz bands and combos as well has pop and jam bands around the Radford Virginia area.

I cannot wait to meet the student and take their playing and musicianship to new heights!

I’ve been studying and playing acoustic guitar since I was a young child. However, I’ve been a professional “gigging” musician for 5 years. My passion, along with performing, is teaching beginning guitar students. I love helping them see that they can have fun right from the start—and nothing motivates the beginner better than having fun and rocking out almost from day one!

I will provide you (or your child) with a clear lesson plan, video tutorials as an aid between lessons, and a highly supportive environment. When you’re ready, I’ll help prepare you for your first public performance whether it’s for a family gathering in your living room or at an open mic at a coffee house. And who knows what will come after that?

On stage, I specialize in a powerful style that blends rhythm and melody. With Cecilia Grace, I performed over 120 dates last year and will be performing 45+ shows this summer alone. I’ve had the opportunity to share the stage with Ryan Cabrera, Drake Bell, Capital ...
