David enjoys teaching ukulele to beginner and intermediate students. Whether you are just starting out or you've been playing for a while, he is happy to teach you! Over all, he is fairly laid back, as long as you practice. He teaches chord formations and strum patterns, along with learning specific songs the student would like to learn.

David is also very pro music theory. He usually incorporates music theory into the curriculum in conjunction with the material already being discussed. He is also very knowledgeable about composition/songwriting, and if the student is interested in learning more about this area, he is happy to share what he knows!

About David

Basic theory such as rhythmic values (whole, half, quarter, eighth notes), time signatures, etc. will be introduced. You should be able to play several different basic strumming styles, read and understand `ukulele chord charts, transpose songs into other keys, and play along to a large selection of songs, or play at least one song all the way through!

For intermediate students, you will work on more advanced arrangements of songs, strumming styles, increase your chord vocabulary and generally gain a greater knowledge of the `ukulele. You will also learn how to read tablature to play simple melody lines. It will help if you are familiar with the following music theory concepts: key signature (especially the keys of C, F, and G), time signature (3/4, 4/4 and 6/8), and rhythmic values including whole, half, ...

The ukulele can cover almost every style of music there is...from traditional Hawaiian music to rock!... and everything in between. Let me show you how to express your inner musician with the ukulele. You will have a blast!

In teaching lessons, it is my great pleasure to share with students of all ages and skill levels the knowledge that I've gained over 27 years of playing. I firmly believe that anyone can learn anything at any time, given the proper tools!

In our first lesson, we will determine your musical goals and create a realistic path to achieving them. It's my job to help you along this path while keeping things fun.

To maintain focus and week-to-week continuity, I always provide lesson notes to take home. I can also provide recordings of lessons and transcriptions of pieces, if desired.

I am very impressed with Elias! He listened well, offered helpful suggestions, laughed and was very congenial to work with. We discussed how to hold a bow and, since I have some arthritis in my hands, he was very open to other possible options that might work better for me. Taking lessons from him will be a bright spot in my week. I would recommend him in a heart beat!

Elias is great! My daughter is 7 and this was her first exposure to violin lessons. She loves Elias, says how patient and nice he is, and can’t wait for her next lesson each week. I highly recommend him!

"Jason has been working with my almost 12 year old for several months now. We started with the ukulele and then moved on to the guitar a few months later. Jason is always very open to our suggestions and feedback on our son's progress and makes any adjustments necessary to keep him engaged. Additionally, Jason is always on time and if we need to make scheduling changes he does his best to work with us to accommodate.
