We are loving cello with Quinn! We had her in person before COVID and now online. She does a great job of guiding the learning process and working with the student (my daughter as an individual)

My 9 yr old daughter began cello lessons with Quinn about 2 weeks before lockdown started. I was worried that online lessons wouldn't work out, but Quinn has been amazing. She's great at explaining everything so that my daughter understands, and she pushes just enough to keep her interested without being overwhelmed. She also answers questions promptly by email when any problems arise. I can't recommend her highly enough!

"I mentioned when I set up my initial lessons with Doug that my long term goal was to play modern and contemporary music by living composers. He has since gone out of his way to transcribe and modify pieces by popular composers for me to learn. I have been very impressed by his ability to choose pieces that are not only appropriate to my playing level but also introduce only the cello techniques I am ready to learn. I would gladly recommend him as a teacher for his genuine interest in my improvement."

"I have taken several lessons with Mark and I think he is an outstanding cello and music teacher. Mark has a substantial knowledge of cello, music and other instruments and his method of teaching is so great that it has make me feel that even with the crazy busy life that I have I can tackle the cello and I will have a good measure of success at my own pace in the future. He is incredibly patient, encouraging and good natured while totally engaged in getting you further in learning music and the cello in this case. He has sent information every week of relevant material to be covered in the next class which is very helpful and he adapts very well to your own style, whether you want to start playing right away or you prefer more emphasis in music notation, etc. He makes himself easily available to answer any questions or to discuss changes in schedule and to top It off he is a really nice person. I would recommend Mark heartily and enthusiastically to anyone who wants to learn cello of any musical instrument he teaches."

"Victor has been a knowledgeable, patient and respectful instructor. I started the cello in mid-life and that has been humbling. Victor guided my first lessons at his Iowa studio. We have continued with on-line lessons now that he is studying in Boston. He helps me develop efficient practice habits since time is a precious commodity. He encourages healthy posture and technique so that I can enjoy playing for many years to come."

"The first lesson was excellent. I completed my first private cello lesson since playing about 44 years ago. It was wonderful. The teacher is very organized and very nice. I thought maybe the lesson would be a lesson of remembering what I had forgotten from so long ago, but I actually learned new things. I'm excited to attend the next lesson."

"I am really pleased with Tom's approach and simplification of cello basics others have made so complex! The instruction was easy to follow leaving me with the ability to play 3 scales the first lesson (with practice of course). I felt like there was hope for someone like me taking up cello so much later in life."

"Nicholas was very professional. I've been playing cello for 13 years and have played in many community symphonies. I've never had a private lesson and just learned what I was taught in grad school. Although I was skeptical on online lessons, Nicholas has already shown me some bad habits i have and how to break them and we're already moving on to some hard stuff. I'm excited to where my next 9 lessons will take me. Perhaps even with more lessons on the way. Thanks Nicholas!"

"I was a pianist and oboist in my early life, and now in my 40s decided that I'd love to learn to play the cello. Victor is a really wonderful teacher. He's very patient, very calm, and very responsive. Whenever I would message him, he'd respond within a few hours, and often he'd respond right away. He was very flexible when schedules changed. Whenever I would run into problems or issues with a new technique, he would find resources, such as videos, to help describe it more fully. I've had many music teachers over the years and Victor is absolutely one of the best."

Popular Cello Songs for Adult Beginners

The cello is an absolutely beautiful instrument that calls countless numbers of people to play it. Adult students are sometimes the most challenging to find pieces for as they don’t want to play the “kiddie” songs that many younger students are excited about. These pieces for younger students are short, based on simple folk songs that children know, and generally do not feel challenging enough for many adult students. So what popular cello pieces are out there that adult students can u …

What is the Suzuki Cello Method?

The Suzuki method, founded in 1945 by violinist Shinichi Suzuki as the Talent Education Movement, is one of the most enduring teaching methods, or pedagogies for young string players. Suzuki’s main goal for his music education system was to give students a “noble spirit,” which would instill respect and cooperation through his method. The method was brought to America in the 1960s by John D. Kendall, and today the Suzuki Association of the Americas instructs new teachers and studen …
