I have been studying cello since the age of four and have taught cello lessons for 15 years. I enjoy working with students of all ages and experience levels. My teaching method helps students become musically literate while exploring the variety of music available for the cello and the techniques needed to play the music. I fell in love with the cello at a very young age and am excited to share my love of music and experience with you!

I love sharing my passion for music with all of my students - ages 5 through 72.

You can always recognize a skilled cellist. The music sounds smooth and graceful, the tone quality is lovely. Unskilled cellists just don’t sound the same. What’s the difference? Skill of course. The skill to play a very large instrument with relaxed hands and arms by using your core muscles to transfer your body weight through your arms and hands into the cello. Not every cello teacher knows how to teach that.

I believe that my unique combined musical and medical background makes me a better cello teacher. In addition to my graduate and undergraduate musical training and extensive musical experience, My knowledge of human anatomy and mechanics of how the body works can help you develop habits that will lead to the beautiful singing tone that’s makes the cello a favorite.

We will then build on those habits to develop good intonation, a lovely vibrato and a variety of bowing techniques ...

I received about 10 lessons from JoAnn and feel very good with the results. I started playing guitar and singing in a small band and knew that I needed help. Joann educated me with many warm up lessons, a good start on reading music, and numerous exercises towards reaching pitch that will also save my vocal chords from harm. It's up to me to practice and use the available tools that JoAnn has introduced me to while I take a break from lessons while traveling. JoAnn is a professional singing teacher.

JoAnn is a very patient and kind teacher. In the last few lessons I've had, she has taught me more than Ive learned with my previous teacher of 8 years. She is very understanding and teaches her students everything we need to know to be a good vocalist. I would highly recommend her.

"Daniel is so patient and easy to work with ~ he makes learning the cello seem so easy and natural and has so many practical ways of explaining an instrument I have no prior knowledge of. I had never played a stringed instrument but always loved the cello, so I was a bit nervous to begin. His gentle nature and patience have made me even more enthusiastic to learn. I have been loving each lesson and look forward to the next each time I leave! I'm looking forward to next week already! :-)"

Is Cello Hard to Learn? Read THIS Before Taking Lessons

Many beginning musicians wonder, “Is cello hard to learn?” The process of learning the cello is not difficult, but it’s important to keep in mind that the cello is not an instrument of instant gratification. It does require focused, daily practice time and a good teacher to guide you along the way. How far you progress with cello is a direct result of the amount of quality time you put into practicing the instrument. Even someone who puts in just 30 minutes a day will notice a signi …
