Transcend the instrument and be able to play with anything. Learn your favorite tunes by ear and on the guitar. That is what I focus on. From beginning rudiments all the way through completely breaking down and conceptualizing the fretboard.
I've been playing for 20 years and have studied jazz at Peabody Conservatory and Berklee College of Music. However, I have played in bluegrass, rock, funk, hip hop and klezmer bands, as well.
I try to create an individual approach for each student because every person learns uniquely. I work with people on skills that apply to music at large, as well as the guitar 🎸. My goal is to help a student learn how to learn on their own, and provide the tools to do so.

My favorite styles to play are rock, reggae, R&B and the blues but I also play funk, jazz and classical guitar. Drop me a line today!
About Jennifer
I began playing guitar at 12 years old. Before that I had dappled with the piano and always sang. There was something about the guitar that just drew me in! I always loved seeing the hands of guitar players and the sounds that would accompany those shapes. Guitar is a very pattern based instrum

Over the past 12 years, we've given over 3,000,000 lessons to happy customers around the world.

I learned music theory, jazz standards, improvisation, fingerstyle techniques, how to play and sing at the same time, and how to write and record my own songs. He inspired me to take on piano as a second instrument, initially through him but eventually through classically trained instructor.
What started as basic guitar lessons for a potential hobby turned into my tiny apartment becoming cluttered with musical instruments and audio recording equipment. For this I only have Eric to thank."

After struggling to teach myself to play the guitar, I realized that I had hit a wall in my self-instructed learning and I needed to find a guitar teacher. I found Phil through word of mouth - and I have made great progress under his tutelage.
If you want to learn to play the guitar, Phil is the teacher you want - if you just want to learn to play songs, well, there’s YouTube."

I was self-teaching for about a year before I came to Ahmad. It worked out just fine. I learned something. But I started to get confused at a point where I don't know how to move forward. I like a very specific group of guitarist (mostly Japanese fingerstyle players). And I wanted to learn how to master songs from those guitarist. And there is no such website or book that would teach me how to do that. Most of the guitar books or websites either give out general informations or put all information together as a mess.
Finally I decided to find a teacher. I found the lesson with Ahmad pretty effective. He is an experienced teacher who knows what you need to learn in order to achieve your goal. He has plenty of handouts that really helps me practice. The most important thing I learned from him is the big picture of guitar learning. For example, I learned the connection between scales and chords, why/how to improvise with these, how to go from there to other relevant things, etc.
When I look back over a year, I realize I have wasted some much time and effort trying to teach myself and wish it could have similar outcome as having a good teacher. Studying with Ahmad saves me so much time and effort (because it's actually easier!)"

Ready to get started with learning blues chord progressions? Here's an intro by Austin, TX guitar teacher Samuel B... In order to properly respect and understand both the theory and structure of ANY kind of American music, it's essential to be able to play the blues. Although the form is said (by some scholars) to have originated in Africa within the story-telling traditions of village griots (historians/poets/musicians who would play a five-stringed instrument known as the halam, which …
