It is my goal to help build your confidence as a reader. I was personally selected by multiple principles in Baltimore County Public School district (BCPS) to teach, and hold the title of Reading Specialist. I have taught over a hundred students, and even completed a leveled literacy workshop that gives teachers the tools to increase elementary student's reading. Many of my students moved up in reading levels, and most importantly felt confident as readers. I will make reading fun, as I implement my background of the Performing Arts into the lesson, "Reader's Theatre."

About Kaira
Hello! My name is Kaira!

I am an educator in the performing arts and reading. My love and extensive background in theatre, and music is utilized in teaching children: singing, acting and reading. I am contracted through Baltimore County Public Schools as a temporary teacher, which has granted me the opportunity to teach yearly as an Reading Specialist. As an Independent Contractor Teacher, BCPS has provided me with the opportunity to learn and teach a Leveled Literacy program that strategically helps children to increase their reading literacy. I have helped over 50 children in a 4-month period of time to move up one level in reading while using this program. Along with the dedication of the child, parent partnering, and my fun reading curriculums can help a child succeed in the area of reading. These experiences ignited me to open up
my own business to teach children who have a desire to become the Performing Artist of their dreams, and or a Confident Reader.

Experience:
*Over 15 years of experience teaching children.
*Over 15 years of experience as a Performer in the entertainment business.
*Over 5 years of experience as a Production Associate and Casting Director in the entertainment business.

Education:
*Theatre Arts, B.A, The University of Nevada Las Vegas
*Television, Radio and Film, M.A, S.I Newhouse School of Public Communication at Syracuse University
*Elementary Education (Reading and ESL), M.A, Grand Canyon University (One year of education)

Locations (Important Note):
* Meeting at the library is ONLY for "Reading Sessions." You will have a choice to have class at the libraries or via TakeLesson Classroom, whichever location is convenient for you. :)

You can expect to have fun during our sessions. So, be prepared to have a great time while learning! I look forward to helping you reach your goals as a Performing Artist or Confident Reader!

From at least the first grade up through higher education, you're going to have to read. But what if you're not good at it? Or you just don't like it? Let me help you get comfortable with reading.

About Susan
Acting – I have taught all kinds of acting, including Audition Skills, Shakespeare, Stage, Film & TV, Dramatic, Comedic, whatever. I also have quite a bit of experience performing in all those arenas. I have a relationship with one of the best management agencies in the area, so my students get fast-tracked with her.

Voice – Anyone can sing. If you want to and have always thought you couldn't, you will be delighted when I prove you wrong. Training for the voice is pretty much the same, whatever style you are interested in. Then I'll coach you in your chosen style and we'll pick songs you like.

Singing beautifully is not enough. I can't tell you how many times I heard in grad school "beautiful voices are a dime a dozen." I will teach you how to OWN the song. That's what keeps people coming back.

Speaking – Every public spe
aker I know has lost their voice at some point, but not from talking too much. It's because they don't know how to use their voice properly. Learn that, and you need never lose your voice to over-use. That's easy to teach.

Writing – I have been a professional writer and editor for over eight years, with many books, articles, posts, newsletters, etc. to my name. I use – and teach – practical grammar, not just correct grammar. I can also help you make your words more powerful.

I've been taking lessons with Susan Scher for about two months now. I can easily say I've been impressed at how much I've improved. I look forward to lessons every week. I feel that soon enough I'll be able to audition for roles in film and television. If you live in the Baltimore area and are interested in voice acting or any acting in general. Contact her and go, you won't be disappointed.

I did not know what to expect when I signed up to take classes with Susan. I decided to take classes with her for two reasons: Her studio is not far from me and 2, the good reviews left by her clients. All I wanted was to learn the fundamentals and techniques about acting. Susan was excellent and very patient. She offered water in each lesson, which is also very kind. Her interpersonal connection brings a sense of comfort. Her studio is very neat and welcoming. I do not have regrets in my selections and I know you won't be disappointed too.

I've had a book published and have written for a multi-national newspaper. I also got A grades right up until I finished college with English Literature and Creative Writing. I also have done numerous public speaking engagements and have studied acting and theatre with A grades all the way through college.

My style of teaching is very relaxed and informal, I want students to feel they can be equals with me, and gain confidence and be proud of their work. I set homework but I also encourage students to get creative in their own time and to show initiative! Reading is vital to growing your knowledge and also for confidence and speaking in public.

Lessons can involve looking at literature and different styles of writing, as well as finding something that sparks the imagination and interest. I work especially well with young teens and pre-teens, as well as those who are looking to further their reading skills.

I also look at Shakespeare and modern plays, as well as screenplays, ...

I help children who are struggling with spelling and reading.

I use the Barton Reading & Spelling System, a highly effective Orton-Gillingham based system.

I work one-on-one with students either online or in Oakton, Virginia.

About Jennifer
The most important thing to know about me is that I love working with children and it shows. You can trust that I will dedicate myself to the success of your child. Nothing brings me more joy than seeing a child succeed at something they truly struggled with.

I have homeschooled my two children since 2002. My son was homeschooled until he entered the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, a highly selective specialized high school in Northern Virginia. He is now a student at at the Carnegie Mellon University School of Computer Science. I continue to homeschool my 13 year old daughter.

My most treasured memories are of teaching both my children to read, knowing the great gift of reading is a fundamental building block to a successful life.

I have worked with other children for seven years as a robotics coach and a coac
h for Destination Imagination. I love the thrill of watching children develop new skills, and the blossoming of self-esteem that comes with mastering those skills.

I decided to become a Barton tutor after I saw so many of my friends' dyslexic children succeed with the Barton system. One of my first students was my own nephew!

I have been using the system as a tutor since February, 2017. I graduated from the University of New Brunswick with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology-Psychology. I have loved caring for, educating and working with children for my entire adult life, and I will dedicate myself completely to the success of your child, using a proven, evidence-based system to teach dyslexic children to read and spell.

I am a multilingual person, and this helps me to help others learn to read. I speak Spanish fluently, and dabble in other languages such as French, Punjabi, Portuguese, and many more. I focus on learning the origins of words (very important stuff) and how they are updated and used in our modern American English language today.

About Vanity
Hello,
My name is Vanity but you can call me Vaani. I am a student at North Carolina State University where I double major in Horticulture and Plant Biology, and Minor in Religious studies. I am the 2nd oldest of seven children, and if you asked my siblings they would tell you I’m an awesome sister who loves showing them and teaching them new things. I currently tutor my baby brother who is 9 and my baby sister who is 13, so I have a great deal of patience and experience. I love having a good laugh while teaching, because what kid doesn’t like to have fun? I am a member of BETA BETA BETA which is the National Biological Honors Society so I’m pretty good at science. I love everything about physics and so that is where my math experience comes from. Reading is a huge passion of mines, I read a book a month and am quite the book hoarder. As
a young girl I loved spending long hours at the library and have a couple school spelling bee wins under my belt. I look forward to not only teaching you but learning from you. Until next time!

Learning how to read should be FUN! I've been teaching beginning reading for 4 years now and I absolutely love it. All of my lessons are jam packed with energy! I've learned that students learn more when they have the opportunity to move their bodies and play games connected to the skills they are learning. Tutoring with me is a blast!
