Mark has been a great teacher for this adult beginner! I take lessons in clawhammer banjo and ukulele with him, and his easy-going nature and skill in identifying ways to improve make it a joyful experience! Highly recommend.

Mr. Sylvester is one of the greatest. He is not just an amazing guitarist, but he is also very kind. He treats people with so much respect. He speaks to me and my mom so nicely. He is very patient. He has a deep knowledge of music and knows how to get the most out of even the least talented people (like me!). He doesn't ever get mad if you make a mistake or forget to bring your music notes. We were so lucky to find Mr. Sylvester.

Mark is a talented musician who plays and teaches multiple stringed instruments. His lessons are always informative and supportive. They are driven by the student’s interest, so anything you want o learn— styles of music, how to do a particular technique, music theory— you can bring to class. And every now and then he organizes a recital— terrifying but great practice!

My methods vary from student to student. I focus primarily on ear training, applications of chord construction to learning solo's, songs, and chords, and reading guitar tablature when a student is lost. I believe guitar is an especially creative instrument and do NOT focus on reading sheet music as a part of the student's learning experience. An emphasis is also placed on performance as well as proper technique to avoid injuries. Listening to music is an extra-curricular activity that should be done every day with a special emphasis on hearing what the 'greats' do with a magnificent piece of wood in their hands.

About Greg

I have been playing guitar for over 14 years, played in four different gigging bands ranging from country to jazz to improvisational funk. I taught music theory, guitar, and bass at M.E.A. Music in Lexington Park, Maryland for 3 years and currently teach and manage at the School of Rock in Arnold.

I've been playing and performing on Guitar for about ten years. I play a multitude of different styles and genres, including rock, country, r&b, jazz, blues, metal, funk, motown, along with many others.

My teaching approach is relatively simple; I work to empower you to approach and play your own instrument through rhythm, moderate music theory, as well as fretboard theory and picking/plucking styles. I also like to do practical application studies, i.e., using songs you're interested in learning to apply new techniques.

Most importantly, we progress at your pace and yours alone. If there's something very specific you'd like to accomplish, we can most certainly do that, or if you want to improve upon your general approach and method, that is also something I am available for.

About Tyler

Hi, I'm Tyler! Born and raised in Roswell, New Mexico, I am the son of a band director. That being said, I have literally been involved in music since I was an infant! I played trombone, bass trombone, and bass guitar all the way through high school, and went to New Mexico State University where I

Tyler arrived early, spent lots of time with my unruly daughter, and kept her on track! He's a good combination of fun/playful but also has a natural authority so that my daughter actually listens to his instruction. Well done and thank you Tyler!

I feel like I learned a lot in an hour and he really helped me find an anchor point that I can go back to if I am stuck on a note. I realized that he went over every proven method that I learned throughout my experiences from elementary school to highschool and then added on to them by explaining how these methods help. He even showed me methods usually taught to college musicians.

The reason I always believed in private lessons is because no matter how few or how many you take, the learning process gets expedited immensely.

I definitely would recommend this teacher for learning a brass instrument.

I like to show my students how the guitar can be a small orchestra. The possibilities of sounds and colors that it can provide is unknown to other instruments and that is what makes it so great. Unlike the piano where a small hammer hits the strings or the violin where the bow frictions them, we have to produce the entire sound on the guitar with our own hands. The process is more personal and, even though it can be harsh at times, it is always satisfying. I also try to bring a more creative part of music when studying the instrument, which keeps classes more dynamic and interesting. I bring my own experiences so that the students can relate in different levels of difficulty.

About Hugo

I'm a professional guitarist, composer and arranger. I graduated from Berklee College of Music with a Diploma in Professional Music. I started playing electric guitar and then expanded also to the classical guitar, which has broaden extensively my approach to different styles of music. Each styl

Hugo is a very patient teacher and has a lot of musical knowledge to pass along. I went to my first lesson with him without knowing anything about music or the guitar and now I already feel some confidence talking about the subject. He gradually deepens the subject and always makes sure you understood before going forward. I super recommend him!

Hugo is one of a kind. Great teacher and an amazing human being! "I highly recommend , if you are interested in developing your guitar skills and/ or expanding your knowledge of music theory , to schedule an appointment with Devin for a lesson . I came from my native Brazil to study jazz at an american college and he patiently introduced me to jazz music . I not only was able to succeed in my jazz ensemble classes with straight A's , but I also got prepared to audition successfully to universities and will be completing my bachelors degree in music soon. And I thank Devin for that ."

"As an adult student of intermediate skill level, I was looking for a guitar teacher to improve my picking technique and my improvisational skills. In the first two lessons, Jesse observed what I was struggling with, and he took the time to understand what I enjoyed working on the most. He custom-tailored a practice plan for me, and we keep updating it from lesson to lesson, depending on my progress. Thanks to Jesse, both my dexterity and my ability improvise have increased quite substantially already. Jesse quickly understands your skill level, he delivers perfectly tailored instructions, and he helps you get your skills to the next level."

How to Write a Song on Guitar Using Just 3 Chords

Even if you just started learning to play guitar,  you already have the tools to write your first song. Guitar teacher Aimee B. shares how to get started... You can write a song on guitar as early as after your first lesson or once you’ve learned a few basic chords. Whether you ultimately want to accompany your lead vocal, jam with others, or to be a wailing lead guitarist, you can, at anytime, write your own unique song. So where do you begin? How do you write a song? Here' …
