I am a certified Suzuki Method teacher, currently trained in levels 1-3, with plans for further certification training.

I am fun and supportive. I'm having just as much fun teaching as I want my students to have learning, and creating a patient, supportive environment is integral to my students' development.

I teach all ages and abilities. I am experienced in a variety of teaching levels, from beginning to advanced studies.

Each student has lessons structured according to their individual goals, learning speeds, and musical levels. I teach students of all levels positive playing habits and how to avoid bad habits, and I teach these using the standard classical repertoire for violin and viola.

I emphasize technique and the fundamentals of theory, with students of all levels so they will have the essential building blocks and tools they need to succeed.

I am professional. I have received some of the best education in my field, and with over 20 years of experience in music

Anna is very good at explaining terms and methods in a way that can be easily understood by a novice such as myself by catering to one's style of learning while at the same time ensuring that the student remain grounded on the fundamentals whether it is in the finger positioning, bowing strokes, or proper posture. I love how she is able not only to identify things that I might be doing wrong but also solutions to difficulties that I might be having during the lessons. As a result, I am very happy at how I have progressed in my skill level since I started a couple of months ago. She is very patient, listens to concerns of the student, very easy to talk to, and has a laid back learning environment. I would highly recommend her to anyone I know who might be interested in learning the violin, whether young or old like myself.

Students can expect a relaxed, fun, and encouraging atmosphere for learning. The viola can be an intimidating instrument- you will make a lot of unpleasant sounds before you start sounding great- and that's okay! I'll be there to guide you and help you reach your goals.

If you're already an experience player, you can expect me "workshopping" your technique. We will analyze your form, practice patterns, and playing style, to ensure that you are growing and improving from the moment we begin. I will push you to become the most expressive player that you can become, but at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

What young students can expect:

- Preparing for entry into school orchestra
- Polishing up school orchestra repertoire
- Learning new material and scales
- Perfecting their technique
- Preparing for NYSSMA
- Preparing college audition tapes (I do have the ability to record these as well)
- Learning to play with confidence
- Learning vibrato

sarah is very good at explaining things and if somehow time is lost she will go out of her way to makeup that time even if it was the students fault which is very appreciated. sarah has a good attitude and is great at keeping focus during lessons so things follow as scheduled, she’s also great at explaining how to practice outside of lessons which really helps with growth for students in my opinion. overall, she’s great! 10/10 would recommend !!

My daughter was reluctant and shy; and had trouble fully engaging in the process. We met
Shawn, and she began to open up, gain confidence, and take charge of her learning herself, and we hardly recognize the person she has become. We are so lucky to have Shawn in our lives!

Shawn is a phenomenal musician and teacher. He made the process clear, fun, and worthwhile. I experienced growth that I never thought was possible with his kind and thoughtful guidance. Totally recommend!!!

My son decided to play the viola, out of the blue (not for school, just for his own sake), so we went to TakeLessons to find him a teacher.
Susanna is so patient, and supportive. He has steadily increased his knowledge and abilities with her guidance.
My son always finishes his lesson and says, that was a really good lesson! Music to my mama ears!
We highly recommend Susanna!"
