He really knows his music and can teach in a way that gets my son directly into actually playing music, which is exactly what I was after.
He’s really flexible and can take anything and turn it into something good.
The pace was spot-on, matching perfectly the maximum my son could understand at the time.
I think my son learnt the absolute maximum he could in that short space of time and he learned a LOT.

I have been playing drums for more than 10 years and have been teaching for more than 3. Throughout that time, I have played across the country in New York City and even in Japan. I am currently a Jazz Studies Major at Sacramento State University. My goal is to make every student a well-rounded drummer who knows whats going on when they are in any type of musical situation. My favorite style to play is jazz, but I am well-rounded in all other styles such as rock, Latin, blues, funk, and country.
In my lessons, I base the material on the student depending on how advanced they are. If the student is just starting out, I will teach them the basics such as holding the drumsticks properly, basic rudiments, reading rhythms, learning about the hardware, and so on.
If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask :D
About Gabriel
I started playing drums when I was in second grade and formed a band with my 2 older brothers who played bass and guitar. It was something to do when we younger but when I got into high school, I took playing drums a lot more seriously. I was in a very competitive marching band playing bass drum an

Hello. My lessons are for beginning and intermediate students looking to improve their skills for school band or personal enjoyment. Students will need to have acoustic drums to allow for practice between sessions. We will work on your skill-set relative to your level of experience. Each lesson will build on the next. My goal is to help my students grow with their comfort and confidence. If you are comfortable and confident then you will have fun. It all works together.

My son has been taking drum lessons from Mike for about 6 years consistently. Mike is an amazing instructor and all around great person. My son has learned so much from Mike, enjoys going to his lessons every week(the ONLY activity that he has done that there is NO complaining about going to lessons, only enthusiasm). He has grown leaps and bounds with his level of drumming, all due to Mike. Mike's studio is high tech, his teaching ability and knowledge of all kinds of genres of music and general positive encouragement and attitude make Mike the best drum instructor. He is a great role model for my son, as well. You can't go wrong with Mike!"

I learned a lot in just a few lessons. I enjoy taking lessons from Richard. He is professional, knowledgable & on time."

When you're practicing the drums and learning new rhythms, one of the best ways to perfect your skills is to have something to copy and imitate. Playing along with your favorite songs is a great idea, but you need to make sure you're practicing the right way. All of that fun could go to waste if you're not targeting the proper patterns! Selecting Your Songs When your drum teacher gives you new rhythms to practice, ask him or her which songs might have some examples of these rhythms. This is …
