I teach flute lessons in the heart of Mount Vernon, just a few blocks away from the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, Maryland. With four years of teaching experience and a wealth of creative knowledge gained from my time at Oberlin College and Conservatory, my teaching caters to every age and ability. In addition to studying at Oberlin (and now Peabody) I grew up in a very musical household, and have two younger siblings.
I love working with all types of students, whether they’re preparing for college auditions, just beginning the flute, or only looking to play for fun, and I also have experience with students with special needs. Please contact me through this website if you would like lessons, and I will respond within a day!

absolutely wonderful.

She encourages, she finds analogies to explain, she is more patient with me then I am with myself. She also explains the terms, gives tips on how to read the notes. She is able to identify the mistakes and give the right advice on how to improve. Her advice on how to practice made all the difference for me. I started with a giant cookie bite sized embouchure and within a few lessons I have managed to make it smaller thanks to her instructions. There is hope for me afterall.
Looking forward to playing a duet with her without me making a mess. Thank you Amanda!

Amanda is an outstanding teacher. She inspires and challenges me to play pieces I did not think I could play. She is able to take difficult passages and break them down step my step so I can learn how to play them properly. I am sure I would not be playing as I am now, if it weren’t for Amanda’s skilled teaching. She is also friendly, makes the lessons interesting and fun and is very professional. I have taken lessons both in person and on Skype and she excels in both modes.

My daughter has taken from Lucy for a couple of months on the recommendation of her middle and high school band directors. Her confidence and sound quality have greatly improved. Lucy is a patient and kind teacher, but pushes my daughter to do her bast.

While our daughter has been taking private flute lessons for 5 years, she just started private lessons with Lucy this year. Her progress has been tremendous. Lucy has helped her improve her technique, sight reading, and overall playing quality. We highly recommend her.

"Sue is a really great teacher for a number of reasons. Her comprehensive approach to teaching a beginner (me) helps me grasp necessary basics while also glimpsing the possibilities in my musical future. Even though I have taken flute lessons before, Sue was able to show me connections between scales and notes in our first few lessons that I did not know. She is full of good exercises and demonstrations to help you better understand everything you would want to know about your instrument of choice or music in general. She strikes a very good balance between simple tips that are easily applied and big picture concepts that the student may take a long time to fully appreciate and master. This is a teacher who will facilitate rapid progress but also keep you excited about that which you have not yet learned."
