I have been taking lessons with Sammy for a month now. I am very green when it comes to singing and I am extremely self-conscious about my voice and had never really sung in front of anyone before. Sammy provided me with exactly what I was looking for, direct feedback. At the first lesson, he had me perform a vocal warm-up so that he could evaluate my instrument. We then discussed genres I like, and what goals I was trying to achieve. He then asked me to chose a song to sing and sing it. He identified things off the bat that I had not thought about and gave me exercises to help work on what we discussed. Week to week we built off of what we identified the previous week and I am seeing progress. He is good about explaining things if I don't understand the concept and he provides examples of what he is talking about. It's been a great experience and I highly recommend Sammy as an instructor.

I am an active performer and have been teaching voice for 9 years. I tailor each lesson to the student's needs and create a supportive and nurturing environment, which gives the student the opportunity to try new things out and take risks. In addition, I teach a classical technique that can be incorporated in any style of music. In Classical Voice, I will teach a healthy technique and apply it to art songs and/or arias.

Soprano Jamie Balter most recently received recognition by both The American Prize in Voice and New York Lyric Opera Theatre Competition for her performance of works by Strauss, Mozart, and Wagner. Jamie is a natural teacher of her craft! Her ability to quickly assess and adapt lessons to my daughters’ personalities and preferences of music, as well as her incredibly positive and encouraging demeanor, has made taking voice lessons a great learning experience for both of them. She is very dedicated to finding ways that work for each student to understand how to use their voice and find their breath, and even given the current circumstances of having lessons via FaceTime because of social distancing, the quality and level of expertise of her lessons have not faltered in the least. We are fans!
Marie
Jamie's approachable and friendly personality is reflected in her teaching style - she is not afraid to have you try various unconventional techniques that turn out to be super effective and fun! In the year I've been taking lessons with her, my breath support, technique, and vocal range have all improved significantly - so much so that a high note that I found strenuous a year ago is now almost within my comfort range! She is very receptive to different styles of music, and her suggestions are always challenging, fun, and geared towards developing your voice.
Lena
Jamie is a fantastic voice teacher. She is extremely patient and encouraging with me as a beginner. I started with hardly any experience at all, and my singing has already improved significantly after only 8 weeks of lessons. She helped me with song choice and voice repertoire, but is also open to my suggestions. I can highly recommend her for anyone who has been thinking about voice lessons, but has not had the courage to start, even at an older age. Just give it a try!

You will develop vocal techniques; proper breathing, phrasing, and how to approach learning a new song; We will explore the meaning of the song and how to convey that to others, as voice is the most personal of musical instruments, it can be most expressive! We develop repertoire and focus on preparing for performance or audition. We also learn to harmonize with an other voice.

I have had a wonderful experience studying piano with Tamari. She is an enthusiastic teacher making the lesson not only rewarding but also joyful. We had to go virtual because of Covid-19 and Tamari spent a lot of time getting all of us familiarized with virtual lessons. She is very dedicated, patient, caring, has a warm personality and she really enjoys teaching.

Hi Everyone,
I’d like to tell all about what a wonderful experience I’m having with Tamari as my piano teacher.
First about me. I’m a 70 year old male with virtually no hands-on music experience or knowledge (other than listening). My parents forced me to take piano music lessons 60+ years ago which I totally resisted. Playing piano was a sissy thing and after a few months they gave up.
For the past 50 years I regretted my youthful error. So when I had the chance to take a piano/keyboard class from Tamari, through OLLI at Uconn I jumped at the chance.
Tamari started the first class totally prepared. Not only did she have startup handouts geared to beginner level students. She also came with extension cords and power outlet strips so all could set up comfortably. Right away we (9) were playing notes and learning. Tamari gave us terrific learning tips (beyond Every Good Boy Does Fine) to make grasping lessons much easier.
Sadly, the Virus hit, and self-isolation became the norm. So Tamari set up her classes through the ZOOM video conferencing software. Wonderfully, a fun learning experience.
One example from yesterday. Tamari helped me learn that just playing the notes , G A G C B by pecking at the keys isn’t music. There’s a certain rhythm needed to make the sound correct and enjoyable. And after, patiently, staying with me, turn after turn, I got it right. Bravo to her and me.
Let me wrap this up by saying, I couldn’t be happier or more satisfied with Tamari as my Piano teacher.

Tamari is a remarkably accommodating teacher. Uses instructional strategies that are effective and appropriate. Also, presents new material clearly and logically. Demonstrates enthusiasm and interest in lesson presentation. My daughter loves learning classical piano with Tamari.

Sara is a great teacher, 5 stars plus many pluses. She can point out my problems quickly and let me practice efficiently. My accent got improved, and I recommend her to my friends who need the same help. Thank you Sara, you are my best friend too. Love you, sherry

Take lessons recommended me Sara Ann Butler because she is a great teacher. I’ve enjoyed taking lessons with her, and I am happy she has high expectations and material that was useful. I wanted to improve my speaking voice, and she was able to point out the places I could make improvements and gave me methods to improve.
To disagree with a previous review, i’ve never heard her use any anti-racist or political views. She doesn’t expect me to behave like her, and when she teaches she uses “I” and “I” is the student.
I am happy that I took vocal training from her.
Brandi
At this age , she is very hot headed. Her ego is longer than a mile. She is racist, doesnt like African-American and Asian students accent. She was making fun of ppls accents. In the begining i thought she may be trying to make a point but no. Jes thats all anger. The first, i m paying you money for this class. So just teach what you supposed to teach not your racist and politcal views. And after a few classes, I said i dont feel comfortable talking about the race religious views and the next thing she did was cancelled all my lessons without even letting me know. Now i have to restart from the begining from a new teacher and it takes a while for a new teacher to understand your accents problems. She wants her students behave like her age oh please, come on, if the student is young in her 20s or 30s you dont act or behave like her or him. They just started their lives but your almost have lived your life. She should not teach here.
