I teach piano in the same manner in which I teach every instrument. First I teach students the rudiments of the instrument. Also I teach them how to read and a bit of music theory. From that point I like to follow the students lead. They bring in songs that they would like to learn, or possibly how to play a certain style like Funk, or Blues, or how to approach a classical sonata. At every point I try to point out general aspects of music that need to be learned from the material that they choose.

Yvonne called to tell me she likes Mr. Paul and she has homework."

First of all, Dave is an incredibly gifted musician, but his talent for teaching is top-notch as well. His laid-back personality worked well to put me at ease, and he is very patient in his guidance and instruction. He covers a lot of territory, but he utilizes a building-block method of teaching that makes sense to me. Speaking solely from the perspective of an adult student, he does challenge you to stretch and to think, to search for patterns and logical sequences on the keyboard. This makes the learning feel more collaborative, as though Iâm engaging in my own progress in ways beyond the practice time. I highly recommend him if youâre looking for quality keyboard time with a great instructor."
