About Maria
MISSION STATEMENT:

The mission of my studio is to create well-rounded, educated musicians who will always have a lifelong passion for the art no matter their long-term goals. I strive for my students to be:

(1) Lifelong learners who develop successful learning habits.
(2) Creative and critical thinkers who will become effective communicators.
(3) Responsible and respectful members of society who respect other cultures.
(4) Able to set short-term and long-term goals and be able to see them through to their success.

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:

It is of the utmost importance that my students are well-educated in their chosen instrument; they must know and understand music and music-making. Students who can play are a dime a dozen, but students who understand the music they are playing are often hard to find. I teach students to kno
w music thoroughly, not just to “play.” I desire my students to comprehend elements of the score, to use their bodies effectively to make good sound, and to interpret music creatively and according to historical performance practices across all genres of music. Thus, I give students a purposeful education in technique, quality literature, performance and artistry, music theory, and music history.

Although students differ in ability and development, I maintain high expectations for our students. I expect attention and respect in lessons, faithful and diligent practice, careful adherence to instructions, and an “I’ll-do-my-best” attitude. If students regularly meet these expectations, then they will excel to the level that they are able. It is my joy to help students master their music, to do the best they can, and to strive for and achieve excellence.

Lastly, I want students to enjoy and appreciate their instrument, music, and music-making; and I know as as a teacher, I am very influential in making this happen. Students develop enjoyment of music by understanding music, experiencing success in music, being exposed to good and varied genres of music, and receiving instruction from a teacher who is enthusiastic and encouraging. It is my goal to provide all of these opportunities for students, and as a result their lives will be enriched as they enjoy their instrument.

I am an actor and acting coach living in New York City. I have worked over the last seven years on stage, both in NYC and regionally, as well as in television and film, working with talent such as Hugh Grant, Donnie Wahlberg, and Beau Willimon.

I hold an MFA from Yale School of Drama, a BFA from UC Santa Barbara, and have studied extensively with on-camera experts such as Bob Krakower, Jessica Cummings, and Marci Philips. As a coach, I work with individuals and productions, on stage and film, and specializes in dialect management for actors and on camera auditions.

I can assist you in shaping your audition, expanding your actor toolbox, learning an accent or dialect, or putting an audition on tape!

About Shannon
After spending six years in conservatory training programs (MFA Yale School of Drama & BFA UC Santa Barbara) and an additional seven years practicing my craft and continuing to expand upon my knowledge of the business, I love nothing more than sharing that wisdom with other artists. I have a passion for guiding and inspiring actors, helping them reach new depths within their own understanding of a character or scene, and combining my training in the theatre with the detailed complexities of film and television work to fine tune actors' auditions both on stage and in front of the camera. I specialize in voice and speech, as well, and have worked with actors and non-actors with dialect management and learning new accents and dialects!

Gregory is a fantastic acting coach and all around awesome person. Our son (age 11) has been working with him and has learned such great techniques that he can take with him to every audition. Greg doesn't stick to one teaching method, he adapts to what our son needs and uses language that is helpful for him. We have seen significant improvement in our son's abilities in just a few lessons with Greg. Highly recommend!!

Took my first performance class with Gregory (after decades away), a Hamlet Scene Study. Class was a nice size (14 people), diverse in age and previous experience, several of them were returning to Gregory's class for a second time, and it was just fantastic. Several of the folks had done some professional work, some were plotting an escape from a current non-theatre career into acting, quite a few were active participants in community theatre here in DC, and some were just passionate about The Bard, reading and analyzing the text, and deepening their understanding of the work. I marveled at how well he addressed all his students, meeting them at their level, whatever that was. He created a very welcoming environment, lots of humor, lots of physicality, open-mindedness, and it was just fascinating to see each scene study pairing, no matter what their level, improve their performance of the scene after some direction and creative input from Gregory, as well as the other students. Highly recommend. I plan to take his class again as soon as convenient, and maybe other classes as well.

Gregory Wooddell is a phenomenal acting teacher and coach. I have taken many classes with him, and I have also had private lessons from him. He works with everyone at whatever level they are at, and he makes excellent, insightful, and understandable suggestions to improve the acting. And there is always a very noticeable improvement. Gregory is fair, patient, and always encouraging. He creates a safe and fun environment for students.

I’ve been an actor/ director for 40 years and have tutored and directed beginners as well as actors attempting to market themselves.
Learning the craft is only half the battle. Marketing yourself and getting up and running are extremely important. The biggest obstacle is the audition prep, the cold reading.
While in LA I studied with two of the best in the business, Stella Adler for scene study and Robert Thompson for cold reading audition scripts.
Some of my credits can be found on IMDB, a site showing actors credits.
I’m from Cleveland Ohio where I began my career in the theater and commercials.
Moved to LA in 1980 where I reoccurred on General Hospital and Days Of Our Lives.
Moved to NY in 1991 and doing theatre TV and film.
I’ll work with you for 1 or as many sessions as you feel comfortable with. And I’ll be sure to advise you depending on how far you want to go. For instance, if your just interested in doing background/ extra work , you’ll just need a lesson or 2.

About Josh
Hi guys, I’m Josh from Cleveland Ohio and began my acting career st the Cleveland Rep at the insistence of my local talent agent David Lee Models and talent.

I discovered very quickly that this was a business I was meant for. After performing in a few theatrical productions, I was offered a directing opportunity in an Inge play called Picnic. Quite a task for a first time director since the cast involved 13 actors. I learned very quickly that the story is the main focus, which means no actor is bigger than another. The ensemble is what’s important. Among my many points for an actor are listening and focus.

I like to cut through all the BS and concentrate on what’s really important. Less is always more. Your first lesson as an actor. I’ve directed an tutored many actors along the way including my son and daughter who are now p
roud members of The Screen Actors Guild. I’m the oldest of 7 kids and we all still love each other. Which should say a lot. I hope to hear from you. You won’t be disappointed. I wish you all great success and just remember, follow your dream no matter what. Life is too short.

I start from the ground up. As an instructor it is my responsibility to first help the student understand the nature of the person, including mind and body awareness. Once they are aware of the physical it can then transform to connect the breath to speech.

This ground work will prepare students for monologue work - understanding character analysis and specificity of each character.
They will learn how to control their breath when speaking, and utilizing pitch variety
Techniques of Stanislavsky, Meisner, and Chekov (Michael) will be used.

About Kendall
I am a professional actress in the Washington, DC area. I am currently apart of the Teaching Artist company at the Smithsonian Institutes Discovery Theater. As a recent graduate at Point Park University with a BFA in Acting, my goal is to give back through my art. As an instructor it is my intention to encourage the student to use the art as a tool for how to navigate through the world.

My acting students become more aware of their bodies and minds, which helps them become more aware in the world around them. It is not solely about the words that are "memorized" in a play, however it is about the internal experience each character has, and ultimately how it changes the actor.

Using the combined methods of Stanislavsky, Meisner, and Michael Chekhov, I will aid my students to freedom in their imaginations, body and mind!

I believe acting is a very vulnerable art if done right, and creative expression can most often be found in a safe environment for risk through play. Ultimately my classes are to shape you, as the actor, with an insight into why that is important both artistically and psychologically.

Further lessons will also include practical approaches to the business aspects of an actor's career, actor health both physically and mentally, and college audition prep.
