I've been teaching piano for over 25 years and have taught students from 4 to 70. I try to show each student how to analyze the music to find patterns that make learning notes and rhythms easier.
I also emphasize strategies for practicing that make learning new material a quicker and more efficient process.

About Susan

I was a piano major at UNI and received a B.A. in English with a minor in music. I taught music for several years in Iowa and Pennsylvania. I have an M.A. in Reading, which has been invaluable in analyzing learning styles and teaching to each student's strengths. I have been teaching piano for over

I’ve been delighted with my lessons with Semyon from day one. I had studied classical piano as a child but took a hiatus of several decades, and was somewhat nervous about starting up again. Semyon has put me at ease, and is so enthusiastic and encouraging, it’s contagious. He also has a focus on technique that I was looking for (scales and Hanon so far, which I know I need!). He knows his stuff but doesn’t overwhelm me with too much too soon. As an adult student, I couldn’t be more pleased with my choice and highly recommend him.
Patricia
As a retiree who has recently returned to piano after a decades-long hiatus, I knew I’d need a teacher with experience teaching adults. Semyon is proving to be excellent. He is a skilled musician and teacher whose approach combines enjoyable piano pieces, exercises for agility and the fundamentals of scales and theory. He is patient and responsive to what I want to accomplish. I have learned in each lesson, seen improvement each week, and enjoy the diversity of assignments. In short, i’m having a grand time and highly recommend him.

I have been teaching private piano, violin, guitar, and ukulele lessons for ten years. I won competitions, hundreds of dollars, and a scholarship through the Desert Valley Music Teacher Association (DVMTA). I have written and self-published two piano books with more in the works. I have worked on a Music Theory degree at MCC and plan to transfer to ASU to finish my bachelor's. I help students find the fun in music again with many involved music games and incentive programs. I instill a love and confidence in students of composing their own music from a young age.

"From the very first lesson, I could tell that Carl would be a excellent fit for my daughter. She has studied classical piano for six years and wanted to learn some different musical styles. He helped her turn her one finger hunt and peck gospel song into something that sounded like Sunday morning. And he's been so good about helping her find music she likes to play. Highly recommend!"

Having moved 1-2 hours away even if the lessons have decreased because of the distance we feel Sally is worth driving for. Thank you."

"Mrs. Sally, or as many of us refer to her as Auntie Sally, is a wonderful, beautiful, and kind hearted individual. As a piano teacher, she exposes her love and passion in sharing her musical knowledge with others. She is one of the most caring teachers who has made a tremendous impact upon my life, among the 11 years that I have known her. As I was a former student of hers, she has given me the opportunity to share my passion of music with others, through the position of a student teacher. Her bubbly personality, advice, and past experiences give comfort to many students and myself, in a way that will inspire us to keep striving and persevering to our goals. Aside from focusing too hard on the music curriculum she loves to get to know her students better, whether that would be through their hobbies, building a relationship with their parents and other family members, or asking questions that simply let her students know that she cares about them. She has formed many beautiful friendships with her students, but for me she has always been a second motherly figure in my life. I grew up with her and her husband Mr. Tim / Uncle Tim starting at the age of 8 and here I am 19 years old, and still occupying their studio. And honestly, I love her for all that she has provided for me. Her thoughts, her words, and her actions are what sets her aside from the other teachers. Take it from me, she has been by my side and supported me, cheered me on, and made me feel special throughout the years. And that's what she does ... She makes you feel like you matter, because you do. She's more than just a music teacher within her studio, she's more than just an instructor, and she's more than you'll ever know unless you meet her."
