I have been teaching privately and in colleges/schools for over 15 years. For all levels, I will help you develop excellent technique on the saxophone and build a strong foundation in music theory. For advanced/intermediate students, I also teach jazz improvisation, if you’re interested! Please bring in the music and songs you want to work on. I believe lessons should be fun and interesting while you learn great stuff, too!

Hi, I’m a professional tenor and soprano saxophonist. I graduated from William Paterson University with a Bachelors in Jazz Performance. I also have an MA in Jazz History and Research from Rutgers University. I enjoy helping students to develop improved technique, sight reading, and musicality

I’m an adult and have no interest in traditional approaches to learning an instrument; I’ve been there, done that and found it not only terribly uninspiring (twinkle little star anyone?) but In every way overly difficult by trying to mix too many skills together at the same time. Before you even have a relationship with and “feel for” your instrument and have the technical skills to play it even half way decently, you’re trying to understand how long to hold a dotted eighth note! This is the reason a lot of people quit playing before they even get started…
Dan knew exactly what I was talking about, met me there and then proceeded to get me to do more in one lesson than I probably would have done in a week on my own, and in the way I want to learn!! He knows how to meet you where you are, find your self prescribed limits and then push you through them! He’s truly skilled in all the ways a teacher needs to be effective with a student!

My name is Jerry. I LOVE music and passing my knowledge on to others. I have played many different instruments in many different kinds of bands. It all one major thing in common, it was FUN! If you are not having fun while learning an instrument you won't want to learn. Lessons can be fun AND educational at the same time. I have had many parents tell me I'm one of the best teachers they have ever seen. (A couple of them were public school teachers themselves). I truly want my students to succeed and I will do everything in my power to help them accomplish that!

With over 20 years as a professional saxophonist and 15 years teaching experience I know the demands of a performing musician professionally and academically. I teach students how to produce a good tone quality with characteristic vibrato. I can teach students to become good at reading music. Students who are interested in jazz or pop styles of music will be taught improvisation techniques and how to play by ear.
About Carl

I had not played for a very long time. Dr Wen got me from there to where I was playing in a University Wind Ensemble, a quartet, and a community band. He also knew exactly where my saxophone needed to be adjusted to make it play better.
Dr Wen was my instructor for approximately 7 years. I learned a tremendous amount from him. You can’t do any better than Dr Andy Wen. He’s outstanding!"
