French horn is my secondary instrument. I have spent a number of years practicing and have even had a few occasions to perform with it when trumpet is not needed. Anyone up to high school ability level is welcome to get in touch.
Hello everyone! Please have a look around my profile and feel free to contact me. I have taught privately since 2009 and joined takelessons.com in 2014.
I strongly feel each student needs lesson goals tailored to what he or she wants to take away from music. Getting ready for a college performance degree, making it to state solo contest, surviving band music, or simply discovering the huge scope of music available to us these days are each worthy goals, but require different preparation. I will work with you to figure out where your interests lie and focus on those, first and foremost!
My education includes bachelor's and master's degrees in trumpet performance from Lawrence University and UW-Milwaukee, respectively. In addition to my private studio, I maintain an active teaching schedule within the Penn Harris Madison school distri
ct, as well as freelance throughout Michiana.
Thanks for your time, and happy practicing!
*** Lesson Equipment *** I can provide: curated exercises and method samples to address specific playing needs.
Students should provide: instrument/mouthpiece, any other music they would like to play
*** Specialties *** I have spent most of my playing time on classical (orchestral, chamber, and solo music), but also welcome students interested in jazz up to an intermediate level, especially if they have an interest in playing lead trumpet.
I focus equally on fundamentals, tone production, proper air support, intonation and technique.
I have been teaching private lessons for close to 10 years and have been an active performer for even longer, playing in all different types of groups, from rock bands and jazz groups to orchestras and brass bands. I studied music at Frostburg State University (Bachelors) and the Peabody Conservatory (Masters). I can teach just about any age and skill level and cover anything you are interested in learning; whether its a certain style, genre, technique or song.
*** Lesson Details *** My lessons are laid back, with a focus on perfecting the basics. Most students work out of a method book appropriate to their skill level. Aside from that we'll also spend time learning songs and pieces of the students choice. With the right amount of effort, you'll know your way around your instrument in no time at all
*** Travel Equipment ***
Will provide sheet music and exercises. My students should have a working instrument as well as any method book or sheet music we are working on.

This is the first lesson I got to listen to of my son working with Nathan. Usually I'm not home from work. I am really impressed with how much he was able to help my son improve so quickly. I wish we had started this much sooner.
The French Horn is another instrument that schools will give scholarships. If you are looking to stand out from the crowd, then this is the instrument to learn. If you currently play another brass instrument, this can be an easy switch for you.
I am a former instrumental music teacher in the Catholic school system. I have been teaching in some way, shape or form for the past 20 years. My methods of teaching vary depending on the student and what they need to succeed. I make myself available between lessons via text, phone and email for questions regarding the lesson. Please let me know if you have issues with animals, I can put them in another part of the house. I have both cats and a dog. All of which are friendly.

My grandson said it was a great lesson. And he told his dad he had fun. I now know that I will either buy a keyboard or a piano so that he can continue his lessons and practice. Thanks for invoking this type of enthusiasm into my little guy. I hope this is the beginning of more to come.
I have been playing the Horn for the past 15 years, so I bring years of dedicated experience to my students. Through my past instructors as well as other professional development opportunities, I have learned many techniques and ideas that I pass on to my students. I create my lessons based on each student's personal needs and goals so they can get the most out of every lesson.
I am a very dedicated educator with experience teaching private lessons since 2013. I graduated from Rutgers University with a duel degree in Music Education and French Horn Performance, and I am currently completing my Master of Music degree in French Horn Performance at New York University where I study with the acting Associate Principal Horn of the New York Philharmonic, Leelanee Sterrett.
I am currently the brass instructor at the lesson studio Music Forever in Edison, New Jersey. I also have experience working in various public schools including Readington Middle School, Holland Brook Elementary School, PS3 Charrette School, and Perth Amboy High School. In addition, I have coached chamber music through the Rutgers Extension Division.
As a performer, I have played in various orchestras, bands, and other various chamber groups.
As a co-founder of Prime Winds, a woodwind quintet, and Quartado, a horn quartet, I understand the organizational skills it takes to network and manage an ensemble. I was also the winner of the NYU Concerto Competition, and I will be playing Anthony DiLorenzo's concerto "Phoenix" this coming October with the New York University Orchestra.
I strongly believe that student centered learning is essential for successful student growth. I adapt my lessons to specific student learning needs based on my assessment of their abilities and interests. It is important to me that my students learn in a way that is best for them, and that they are going over material that will help them reach their goals. In addition to teaching my students how to play with great technique and a beautiful sound, I teach them what it means to be a musician in the 21st century. It is important to me that my students can understand how to use what they are learning about in real life settings outside of the practice room. I push my students to be excellent musicians as well as life time learners.

Kevin is an excellent teacher! My daughter Erica struggled in her band class, and she considered quitting. Once she started lessons however, she really progressed and now loves playing!
I have been teaching for over 5 years and love working with horn players of all levels. I realize that each student is unique and always approach individual lessons with my student's particular goals in mind. I have a basic curriculum that I use in order to build a solid musical foundation for my students, but I am open to working on whatever kind of music or repertoire that they may enjoy. I love being able to expand my students' knowledge and appreciation of the world of music. It is always exciting to me when a student achieves a goal they habe set or learns a new skill that helps them in their musical expression.
I am a freelance horn player with a passion for teaching both horn and piano. I have a Bachelor's of Music from The University of Arizona and a Master's of Music from California State University Long Beach.
I have been teaching privately and in group settings for over 5 years and really enjoy getting to pass on the knowledge and musicianship that I have received from my teachers on to the next generation.
I teach using a base curriculum but also love to work on pieces that students want to play outside of their main course.
I teach beginners, amateurs, and advanced students of all ages. Over the course of our lessons, you will not only learn how to become a better horn player, but also how to become a better musician. Musicianship topics that will be discussed are: etiquette, goal-setting, anxiety strategies, how to build a professional resume, and personal branding techniques. Every student receives a curated “horn book” that contains selected studies, warm-ups, a self-analysis, and a goal-setting worksheet.

The Horn is the difficult instrument, and yet we strive to learn it because of beautiful vocal sound it has the potential to create. My goal is to build strong fundamentals with a strong basis of efficient technique with a beautiful sound. I am a professional horn player who has made Baltimore his home for the past 3 years. Born in California, I left to earn my Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Denver. I went on to earn my Masters Degree and a Graduate Performance Diploma at the Peabody Conservatory at Johns Hopkins under the tutelage of Denise Tryon.
While in Denver I performed with the Evergreen Chamber Ensemble, the Longmont Symphony, and the Pueblo Symphony. Since I came to Baltimore, I became the Principal horn of Symphony Number One and I am a founding member of the Old Bay Brass Quintet. I also play regularly with the Washington Chamber Orchestra.
During the summers, I have participated in a variety of festivals and workshops including the Colorado Music Festival, the Miami Music Festival, the National Music Institute and the Rafael Mendez Brass Instit
My passion for teaching takes hold during the Maryland Wind Festival for which I have been on the faculty for the past two years. We perform concerts and give masterclasses to the students and adults in up-state Maryland.
My hobbies include anything outdoors (hiking, biking, rock climbing, etc). I am also a fan of staying in for the night to cook a nice meal and relax.
"Victoria helps with technique, and she makes me feel like I'm part of the community of horn players."
"Our son has been taking Horn lessons from Mr. Olivier for a year and a half (our son has only been playing horn for that amount of time) and loves it. Oli
vier doesn't just teach notes, he always takes care to foster musicality in our son. He has supported and helped our son prepare for All-Districts and Youth Symphony auditions where our son has secured first chair in both. We truly believe our son would not be this successful without Mr. Olivier's guidance. If you are interested in growing musically while mastering this beautiful instrument, he is the teacher for you! Always finding new pieces, and warm-up exercises to keep our son excited! Thank you Mr. Olivier"
"James teaches our son (13) the horn. He is a true professional in his art and does a fantastic job in teaching it to others. He is knowledgeable in his
craft and very patient in laying a solid foundation from which to build on. Our son learned more in his first 30 minute class about how to work on areas that were frustrating him, than the 1.5 years lost in band class. Thank you James for getting our son to start playing with confidence, and best yet enjoying his horn again!"
"My son enjoys his music lessons with Jonathan, who is infinitely patient teaching what can be a challenging instrument. My son responds well to Jonathan's
instruction, and he appreciates having access to a professional performer as a teacher. Jonathan encourages my son to learn a variety of music, including both challenging classical pieces and more recognizable popular and jazz pieces, which helps to sustain his interest in the lessons."
"Mr. Phelps is a wonderful educator! My middle school band students were in awe of his expertise AND had a great time learning from him. He is a wealth of
knowledge and has an excellent understanding of pacing material correctly for the level of student he is working with. My kids were engaged and excited without being overwhelmed. I would absolutely hire him again."
"She is very nice and sweet. She has been very helpful increasing my ability to play the french horn. I love her tips and advice and makes my lessons fun."
"Nate is awesome. He is very patient and focused on improving fundamentals. My sons playing has improved greatly over the last ten weeks."

"I had Bethany as my horn instructor at Westmont college. Not only is she a great French horn player, but she is a really talented teacher! I wasn't a musi
