Transcend the instrument and be able to play with anything. Learn your favorite tunes by ear and on the guitar. That is what I focus on. From beginning rudiments all the way through completely breaking down and conceptualizing the fretboard.

I've been playing for 20 years and have studied jazz at Peabody Conservatory and Berklee College of Music. However, I have played in bluegrass, rock, funk, hip hop and klezmer bands, as well.

I try to create an individual approach for each student because every person learns uniquely. I work with people on skills that apply to music at large, as well as the guitar 🎸. My goal is to help a student learn how to learn on their own, and provide the tools to do so.

Guitar can be a vehicle for your souls' deepest expression and also a form of practicing meditation. I began teaching before I attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. I can help guide you with creating your own sound recordings if desired. Whether you are just getting started or an experienced guitarist looking for some unique perspective I'd love to help you find a new groove! My favorite styles to play are rock, reggae, R&B and the blues but I also play funk, jazz and classical guitar. Drop me a line today!

About Jennifer

I began playing guitar at 12 years old. Before that I had dappled with the piano and always sang. There was something about the guitar that just drew me in! I always loved seeing the hands of guitar players and the sounds that would accompany those shapes. Guitar is a very pattern based instrum

I have been teaching guitar, including Classical Guitar, for 23 years. I emphasize the finer points of finger style guitar to achieve the best technique and sound. Also standard music notation for reading music is very important. Classical guitar is a different world than the standard guitar approach, but it is quite fulfilling and enjoyable, although the technique will apply to any finger style song you would like to play!

"I have been taking lessons with Ahmad since June - I was referred by a mutual acquaintance. I bought myself a guitar for my birthday a year ago and realized I needed some outside motivation to play it. While I'm relatively new to guitar and this is my first time taking guitar lessons, I have been drumming for 13 years with private instruction and university courses. I would highly recommend Ahmad. He is inspiring, professional, informative, and patient; a shining example of what a great teacher should be.

Over the past five months, I've already seen significant improvement in both my guitar performance as well as my understanding of the guitar and music in general. Ahmad is very good at balancing the scale between creativity and technique, while never losing sight of what your goals are as a student. As with any learning process, I would suggest you understand your own goals and level of commitment before jumping in to lessons. As I've seen, Ahmad will probably motivate you to practice more than you originally thought, which I really appreciate. It's with practice and strong understanding that I've gotten to a point where I am proud of my abilities on the guitar. Work with Ahmad and I hope you find the same!"

I admit that the demands of everyday life can get in the way of my goal of being a musician, but Keith has brought me so very far.His empathy and professionalism has helped me to begin to overcome performance anxiety. Should Classical Violinists Learn to Improvise?

A few weeks ago the Washington Post published an article about musician Hannah Hanh and her struggles with improvisation.  As a classical violinist, she hadn't had much training for spontaneity, naturally. The article points out improvisation as a technique that has fallen by the wayside for many performers these days. And it asks an interesting question: Can (and should) classical musicians learn to improvise? We've talked a lot about improvising on the guitar and drums, but where do classi …
