I play and teach a wide variety of mandolin styles. As a performer, I mostly play traditional and contemporary classical music, though I also play quite a bit of folk music on mandolin.

About Mark

I am a composer, multi-instrumentalist, and songwriter working in a variety of genres. I regularly perform around the Washington, DC, area as a solo guitarist, as a singer/songwriter, and with numerous classical, folk, rock, and musical theater groups. Mark has been a great teacher for this adult beginner! I take lessons in clawhammer banjo and ukulele with him, and his easy-going nature and skill in identifying ways to improve make it a joyful experience! Highly recommend.

Mr. Sylvester is one of the greatest. He is not just an amazing guitarist, but he is also very kind. He treats people with so much respect. He speaks to me and my mom so nicely. He is very patient. He has a deep knowledge of music and knows how to get the most out of even the least talented people (like me!). He doesn't ever get mad if you make a mistake or forget to bring your music notes. We were so lucky to find Mr. Sylvester.

Mark is a talented musician who plays and teaches multiple stringed instruments. His lessons are always informative and supportive. They are driven by the student’s interest, so anything you want o learn— styles of music, how to do a particular technique, music theory— you can bring to class. And every now and then he organizes a recital— terrifying but great practice!

Experienced in teaching mandolin for over 5 years. Experience in teaching other stringed instruments (guitar, bass, ukulele) for over 30 years.

About Geoff

I played on a toy piano when I was very young, learning a bit of sight reading from my Mother, while listening to classical, jazz, and rock music. When I was 12, I learned guitar and later took private piano lessons from a prominent Philadelphia instructor. After playing in a rock band in high sc

I totally enjoyed my class with Geoff. We immediately started my lesson with tuning the ukulele. Then we went over the cords and strumming. I have been researching on playing the ukulele and his explanation on the strumming was a lot better than the book. He is teaching me how to play by listening to the notes which is great because I would be able to play the Hawaiian music for my hula classes. In addition, his studio is only a 5 minute drive from my house, which means I don’t have to deal with traffic.

I have been playing mandolin for about five years now. What started as a Led Zeppelin obsession has since moved towards a Chris Thile obsession...including studies following his learning methods.

About Joe

I absolutely love teaching music! After over 20 years of teaching, performing, writing, and recording in all styles/genres, it continues to be a great adventure. It is a joy to pass this on to others...especially seeing my students that never touched the instrument going on to be very proficient

I learned to play the mandolin because it is a very common instrument that guitarist double on in musical productions. From there I became interested in playing Irish folk music and bluegrass and formed an Irish folk group.

When teaching Mandolin I like to use these styles to teach students to read written music and chords so they can confidently join in on any jam and have fun.

About Diego

My main focus is to help you achieve whatever goals you have set for yourself. I tailor every lesson to each individual to ensure you are learning in a style that best suits your needs. Whether you are interested in rock, blues, country, jazz or any other style of guitar, I will work to make sure t

"Good instruction at an affordable rate which made it a really great value. Victor was helpful reinforcing mechanics, suggesting practice exercises and introducing good songs to learn. Additionally, he seems to have a deep knowledge of bluegrass history and is flexible in his instruction which is important given the limitations of online learning."

"Andrew was incredibly helpful in taking my playing to the next level. I was a Novice and had difficulty with timing and loosing my place when playing. Within weeks he helped me to overcome those challenges and he made the process fun! Not only did he help me with my mando technique but he also helped me to listen better to others when playing. If he hadn't left CT I would still be taking lessons."
