I started learning guitar on my own. I got some CD’s. It got me started. However, I wasn’t progressing. I looked for an instructor in my area and Brian Gross came up in my search engine. I was very frustrated at first but Brian assured me it takes time and practice. It’s the little things that he teaches you that makes all the difference. If you listen to what he tells you and apply it you will amazed. Great musician, great teacher.

Brian is a wonderful, fun, and very supportive guitar teacher. He encourages students like me to practice and learn, and he gives very positive and tailored instruction. He allows his students to choose the style of music that they want to learn, and he offers the easiest and most straightforward way to learn it. He prepares his lessons very well, and it is always a joy to see his cheerful face. Even someone like me who sometimes fumbles around with the strings can feel comfortable in his great manner of teaching. I find that I have learned quite a bit in a very short amount of time, even with my busy work schedule. The guitar exercises that he gives us are fun to do and so effective. I highly recommend him as a guitar teacher, and I look forward to many more lessons with him.

I taught myself blues guitar by playing along with the records of B.B. King, Eric Clapton and all the greats in between, so I know how it's done. As the author of several guitar method books, and a teacher for over 25 years, I have the materials and the experience to show you how as well.

About Jared

Hi, I am a native New Yorker and a guitar player since age 13. I played in blues/rock bands throughout my teens, getting to play the legendary clubs of my Greenwich Village neighborhood. My discovery of Spanish classical guitar music occurred in college at UC Berkeley, and I graduated with a BA in

"Adam’s got some cool blues pockets. I’d never really thought about lead as pockets - kind of like a drummer would think about a fill. So I guess if you think about lead as discrete pockets it should be “easier “ to break down the lead guitar."

"Andy was my guitar instructor for more than year. He is a master in theory and practice and is able to bring you to the highest levels. The breath of learning opportunities he offers in terms of techniques, styles, rhythms, songs etc is huge and allows for training and development in the desired areas at every possible level. And he can back up the lessons by the underlying music theory as needed. In practice, Andy quickly spots where issues lie and provides useful hints to overcome technical problems. In addition he offers useful material which helps when practicing at home.

"Phil is a phenomenal teacher - right from the start, he will get you on track with exercises and practice routines that keep you focused on learning to play the guitar. He will cover the areas that you must know to become proficient on the guitar, including forms, modes, chords and progressing toward learning to read music.

After struggling to teach myself to play the guitar, I realized that I had hit a wall in my self-instructed learning and I needed to find a guitar teacher. I found Phil through word of mouth - and I have made great progress under his tutelage.

If you want to learn to play the guitar, Phil is the teacher you want - if you just want to learn to play songs, well, there’s YouTube."

Tricks For Differentiating The Two Blues Chord Progressions

Ready to get started with learning blues chord progressions? Here's an intro by Austin, TX guitar teacher Samuel B...   In order to properly respect and understand both the theory and structure of ANY kind of American music, it's essential to be able to play the blues. Although the form is said (by some scholars) to have originated in Africa within the story-telling traditions of village griots (historians/poets/musicians who would play a five-stringed instrument known as the halam, which …
