I have been teaching for over 10 years and work with all ages and skill levels. I am a piano performance major with a strong focus on classical music. Because I believe that music should be fun as well as challenging, during my lessons I try to incorporate classical music while also focusing on music that accommodates to the interests of the individual.
I believe that strong technique and basic musical knowledge are both important in creating well rounded musicians. With that in mind, I incorporate technical exercises, such as scale work, as well as music theory into my lessons.

About Taryn
I am a University of Hawaii Piano Performance Major with a training emphasis in classical piano. I have taken multiple AMEB piano examinations, as well as performed in various recitals, culminating in an undergraduate music certification. I have been playing for 20 years, working with a variety of musical and performance styles, including individual performance, accompaniment, and musical collaboration. These experiences have given me the skills to tackle and communicate musical themes and ideas to students with a range of learning styles and needs, from beginning to advanced, classical to leisure.

*** Lesson Details ***
My teaching style is very dependent upon the need of the individual student. I believe that each person learns differently, and different people require unique methods of communication (visual, aural, descriptive), as
well as structure of classes. In addition, I understand that students are hoping to gain different things from learning any instrument. Given this, I really try to cater to what a student wants, and how they learn best. However, I also believe that no student can learn and advance without an understanding of theory and development of technique. I generally use the Piano Adventures curriculum with my beginning students, however for intermediate and advanced students, I prefer to allow more freedom in the pieces that are learned. While studying with me, you can expect to develop technique through the study of classical music, gain an advanced understanding of music theory, and develop the ability to not only play well, but to perform well too!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Upright Yamaha piano in common area w/ seating for parents

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect the student to provide the piano or keyboard for practicing. The students should be responsible for getting the proper music books necessary for teaching.

*** Specialties ***
The genre I am most experience with is classical music.

As a retiree who has recently returned to piano after a decades-long hiatus, I knew I’d need a teacher with experience teaching adults. Semyon is proving to be excellent. He is a skilled musician and teacher whose approach combines enjoyable piano pieces, exercises for agility and the fundamentals of scales and theory. He is patient and responsive to what I want to accomplish. I have learned in each lesson, seen improvement each week, and enjoy the diversity of assignments. In short, i’m having a grand time and highly recommend him.

About Travis
Hi,

My name is Travis, and I have been playing trumpet for 17 years. I have been teaching for 8. I love working with new students, and became more focused on private lessons during my Sophomore year in college. Speaking of which, I earned a Bachelors of Music in Trumpet Performance from the University of Maryland College Park.

While there, I played with the Wind Orchestra, Symphonic Orchestra and Jazz Band. I am also a regular performer with the Prince Georges Philharmonic.

As each student is different, so is my technique and teaching method. Generally, I have students work through the fundamentals of the instrument including fingerings, embouchure, breathing and scales. Once mastered, the more difficult obstacles such as range, dexterity, repertoire and endurance are approached. I do not work with a set schedule for s
tudents, and tailor the lesson plan for the student's growth and practice.

Travis is a great teacher, he is patient and has vast knowledge of music theory. He has a warm personality which sets the tone for me to learn. He started with the basics, my posture, breathing and how to hold the trumpet and it's parts. I look forward to each lesson.

I structure my lessons so students learn what they want to learn, while also building a strong foundation of classical skills. I specialize in technique, typically use piano adventures books, and also have the following tools available to use during lessons: a piano, metronome, etc.

About Rachel
Hi! My name is Rachel, and I have been teaching lessons professionally for over 10 years now. My primary instruments are voice and piano, and I also teach music theory/ear training/musicianship skills. I earned my degree in vocal performance from James Madison University, where I taught lessons to non-music majors as well as tutored general music for the student population. I also hold a masters degree in voice performance and pedagogy from the Peabody Conservatory. I would describe my teaching style as fun and relaxed, with a strong emphasis on healthy technique. I can also help with audition prep on both instruments. I look forward to meeting with
