The violin has been a constant and enriching presence throughout my life, and I enjoy helping people engage with this instrument that is demanding and rewarding in equal measure. No matter your age or level of expertise, I would be happy to help you along as you discover new musical territory. I’m most fluent in the classical style, but am happy to explore other areas with you as well, from bluegrass to Broadway.

I'm a great teacher for young children! I've played the violin for over 10 years and have taught professionally at a music school back home in NY. I've worked a ton with kids, from being a pre-school aid to baby-sitting special needs kids, so I am very good at keeping lessons fun and interactive. Even though I don't play professionally now, growing up with music and having orchestra class be a safe space to express myself was so impactful in shaping the adult I have become. The violin is an amazing instrument to learn and I hope I can spark enthusiasm in your child and inspire them to stay with it as they grow.

Throughout my musical training, I have worked with distinguished performers and educators in the classical music community. I have studied with Lawrence Dutton (of the Emerson String Quartet), and Nicholas Cords (of Brooklyn Rider), Karen Ritscher (of Manhattan School of Music), and Nancy Buck (of Arizona State University). My teachers have been taught by some of the most eminent string pedagogues of their generation, including Dorothy Delay, Karen Tuttle, Lilian Fuchs, Harvey Shapiro, and Heidi Castleman. This broad survey of teaching styles and philosophies gives me a great breadth of knowledge which I apply to each student.
I have been teaching for over a decade in many settings. These include: my own private studio, TakeLessons, music stores, and performing arts studios.
Before earning my masters degree in performance, I was honored to be awarded a Teaching Assistantship for the viola studio of Professor Nancy Buck at Arizona State University. During my teaching ...

Before you can get to the double-stops and harmonics, you'll need to learn how to develop your bow hand. Without this foundation, other techniques may be compromised. Read on for a tutorial and bowing exercise from Portland, OR violin teacher Greg A... It can be mesmerizing to watch the fingers of a fiddler run up and down and across the strings, fast as lightning. But the motor that’s doing the bulk of the work and producing the beautiful tone is actually in the bow hand. Before picking …
