David enjoys teaching ukulele to beginner and intermediate students. Whether you are just starting out or you've been playing for a while, he is happy to teach you! Over all, he is fairly laid back, as long as you practice. He teaches chord formations and strum patterns, along with learning specific songs the student would like to learn.

David is also very pro music theory. He usually incorporates music theory into the curriculum in conjunction with the material already being discussed. He is also very knowledgeable about composition/songwriting, and if the student is interested in learning more about this area, he is happy to share what he knows!

About David

This class is intended for those who have never played a `ukulele, a beginner or continuing student. Yao will learn how to hold, tune, and play the `ukulele for sing-alongs. Basic theory such as rhythmic values (whole, half, quarter, eighth notes), time signatures, etc. will be introduced. You should be able to play several different basic strumming styles, read and understand `ukulele chord charts, transpose songs into other keys, and play along to a large selection of songs, or play at least one song all the way through!

For intermediate students, you will work on more advanced arrangements of songs, strumming styles, increase your chord vocabulary and generally gain a greater knowledge of the `ukulele. You will also learn how to read tablature to play simple melody lines. It will help if you are familiar with the following music theory concepts: key signature (especially the keys of C, F, and G), time signature (3/4, 4/4 and 6/8), and rhythmic values including whole, half, ...

"Jesse is great! I'm an old lady with no musical ability, yet he has the talent and patience to teach me ukulele!!! He is flexible with the lessons, concentrating on whatever is giving me issues that week. I love that he customizes your musical goals: I will never be Jake Shimabukuro, but I will be able to play along the next time someone says "California Dreamin' in G". I definitely recommend Jess to all the old ladies that want to learn an instrument - and everyone else! Next stop....bass guitar!"

"I have to say, Amanda’s guidance & cooperation is phenomenal! She is very patient & understanding about giving instructions, directions, tips as well as the consideration of small praise for new accomplishments, preventing any discouragement. She gives the satisfaction of accepting new challenges that are feasible & ensured it was within my understanding, not to mention to focus on the basics & create that strong foundation of yourself. Even when I was just learning something or not, I will always walk out with something new to help me play ukulele. It’s very exciting & the wonderful vibe that she gives makes it that much better and to look forward for my next lesson!"

"Teresa is excellent with my 8 year old daughter. We found her on-line and a truly fun and amazing journey has started for our family. Teresa is knowledgeable, kind, and has made learning fun. She encourages my daughters inner voice and has let her be creative and fostered her development with solid theory and she's developing an "ear" for notes. Not sure if there is a correlation, but her math comprehension is improving in school as well. My daughter has come to love the instrument and is interested in transitioning to guitar as she's ready. This process is happening organically and with joy. So delighted that we met Teresa."
