My son Nicholas, 10 yrs old, has been taking saxophone lessons with Imraan for about a month. Searching for a young motivated teacher who is up to date with todays music is very difficult. My fear was for Nicholas to get discouraged in his saxophone playing and music with a non motivated instructor.
Imraan has been the perfect match for Nick. He is not only an excellent saxophone player but a great instructor. He motivates my son with his saxophone playing, has patients with his teachings and with kids, is up to date with todays music and most important, my son cant wait for his next lesson.

- Mr Mandel is the most patient instructor, which is good since he's dealing with an 8 year old girl who's not sure she even wants to play an instrument. Somehow, he manages to instruct and motivate her even when she'd rather be playing computer games.
- I also take lessons from him- I've got a music background but had no previous experience with the guitar before and Mr Mandel was able to adapt his teaching style to accommodate that nicely.

Theory is essential if you want to understand what you're doing!

I have been teaching piano for over 40 years, full-time for the past 15. Besides the actual repertoire, technique and theory are always included in my lessons because they are essential. Sight reading and ear training are also included in some lessons.

I stress accuracy in playing and attention to details! I also teach my students HOW to practice. Slow, accurate practice is the answer. Practicing takes patience!

Please note: Home lessons must be at a location that I can get to easily with public transportation. I do not have a car.

I took up the piano as an adult, without having had any experience in it as a child (though I played guitar through college). I tried a few instructors prior to discovering Emil, with whom I have been studying now for over 2 years.

Emil is a wonderful teacher. He is far and away the most accomplished piano player I have studied with, and his knowledge of, and facility for, playing really comes through in his instruction. He is always bringing formal instruction back to the act of performance, and how to make whatever piece you are working on, even the simplest, sound the best that it can be.

Emil isn't afraid to share his own struggles with whatever piece he is currently working on, and pointing out that he faces the same challenges that every practicing player faces.

Emil is personable, knowledgeable, and kind. I can't recommend him highly enough as an instructor.
