All aspects of using the Blues Harp, Harmonica and How to use a Guitar and Harmonica together for full musical fun. Integrated approach so you can sing, play, and strum with ease.

About James
I worked for Eddie Van Halen for five years in the 1990's in the Beverly Hills area of Los Angeles and was instrumental in providing help with development of the Peavey Wolfgang and Wolfgang Special Guitar by providing feedback on the prototypes Eddie was designing at the time. I learned a lot from Eddie and his brother Alex about music and the music industry. (All you have to do is pay attention! ) I have played in bands from Hollywood to Toronto and back both as a singer songwriter and guitarist. I bring the Musicians Institute way to the table and get things up and running quickly. I help students get it under their fingers fast and get it right the first time.

I believe in sharing the happiness of making music with anyone who loves music and the guitar in particular. I do my very best to get you playing the songs you love in Pop,
Rock, Jazz and Folk Music of your choice. Today's modern new guitars are easy to play and you will enjoy learning Guitar right away. That is how it should be.
When you study there is a basic understanding of Guitar to be learned that allows an ease of use for anyone for years to come. This will help you reach your goal and improve each week. My students learn to practice in a way that feels comfortable and makes sense. This takes all the stress out of learning and gives everyone something to smile about and look forward to each week.

The good feeling of playing along with friends and taking a solo is within every students grasp. I will show you the way there. And with a solid and straightforward approach to the theory as it applies directly to the guitar you will feel confident and unafraid of any music endeavor. We'll cover harmony and fingerboard theory and give you a road map of the guitar neck that makes it a pleasure to play. You learn the basics and much more than you thought possible retaining 90 percent of what you learn!

Having been a student myself I was deeply involved in music since age 12 and played in bands and duos for over 15 years . I can help you to be a well rounded player and performer with a smile, a laugh and a joy for music whether your in a band or a budding solo artist.

*** Lesson Details ***
Most students want to play the Guitar to play their favorite songs and I'm the same way. Music is something we carry with us in our hearts and minds. Students will learn what they wish to learn and work at a pace that is comfortable to them. Whether you are a student, “weekend warrior” or a parent whose child has expressed an interest in Guitar anyone can learn all there is to know about Harmony and Theory for the Guitar and how to play their favorite songs.

We cover theory in an easy and straightforward no nonsense way in the first half of each lesson and then apply it to the song you wish to learn. This creates an atmosphere where you understand and feel at home with the Guitar. You get an understanding right away and because it is immediately fun it allows you to feel comfortable at any level. Music is fun, and songs are the creative expression of what we feel. Combining theory and the freedom to play and sing songs allows us to express ourselves through music.
After 6 months students will have a solid foundation in theory, and a road map of the guitar fretboard enabling them to advance to an intermediate level if they are ready to do so. Students will know enough that music as it relates to the Guitar, which is the world’s most popular instrument in contemporary music, is not a mystery but is a welcome friend. And they will be able to play songs by popular artists and advance at a pace that is satisfying and enjoyable.

"James is my husband for over 10 years now. Over the years, I have seen James give guidance and counsel to many hopeful musicians of all ages, and inspire others about how music influences and benefits our lives. I would highly recommend James to anyone who wants to learn guitar, voice, music theory, and acting. James is a great talent, and study with him would benefit anyone with the sincere desire to grow as an artist. I took up harmonica when I started songwriting, about five years ago. Inspired by Bob Dylan, the Beatles, and other pop/rock acts, I incorporated diatonic harp playing into my original songs. I later picked up blues style playing, improvisation, and other techniques. I'm happy to share my skills and techniques with harmonica players of all skill levels.

About Gio
I studied music at UCF (Orlando), focusing on classical and jazz guitar, but I also have years of experience playing rock, blues, folk, hip-hop, and musical theater on both guitar and drums.

I have been teaching guitar, drums, and piano for about eight years to students of all ages. Music is what I'm passionate about and it's what I enjoy. I want to inspire that same passion into the hearts and minds of others.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a laid-back teacher, fun, and I focus on the needs, abilities, and ambitions of the student. In turn, students must realize that learning an instrument takes a lot of work and dedication. One can't expect to learn very much if s/he only practices or thinks about the instrument during the lesson. If the student is willing to put some time into practicing, then I will help them go far!

*** Studi
o Equipment ***
I have several guitars, a drum kit, djembe, mandolin, clarinet and full-size keyboard.

*** Specialties ***
Guitar: Classical, jazz, American or Irish folk, rock and pop; lead or rhythm.
Drums & Percussion: All genres
Piano: Classical (includes sight reading)

Harmonica is a great instrument but demands good breathing and a understanding of rhythm. I'll teach you some great breathing exercises and you'll learn music theory, which will help you tremendously when it comes to knowing what harmonica to use based off of the key the song your playing is in. All while having fun because that's what make the learning process enjoyable.

About James

When my 7-year-old son asked for guitar lesson's, my wife and I were at a loss. As we are not musically inclined at all. We found Jimmy from a friends recommendation and could not be happier. Our son, loves his lesson's with Jimmy, he is learning music theory , how to read music and how to make his guitar sing (for a 7-year-old, at least). Jimmy is very patient and attentive to the needs of such a small learner. We would highly recommend him to anyone looking to play.

I specialize playing harmonica in a various combination of modern music genres. I can teach you everything you need to know to get going on Blues, Rock and Folk within a few lessons. With a little dedication I can show you all my tricks to playing in different keys over Jazz, Pop and even E.D.M.

About Gonzalo
The harmonica is my whole world. I first witness the harmonica live at a Festival, I was in awe. I waited after the harmonica player got off stage and right then and there asked about lessons, I spent 5 years training with that man as my blues harmonica mentor. I'd like to share the big magic of this little instrument with you. You'll be surprised how with a bit of practice and patience we can quickly get you from the basics to making fun, musical, expressive sounds along with your favorite tunes. I presently play a variety of traditional americana music and experiment with more modern styles of alternative and electronic dance music, playing the harmonica acoustically and through computer software.

I take pride in customizing my teaching techniques for each individual student. Guiding them to a place where playing music on the harmon
ica can be stress free and a joy. Playing harmonica has always been the highlight of my day, I love showing others how to achieve the same.

As a fellow/professional musician in San Diego, I'd have to say that Gonzalo is one of the premier harmonica players in the area. He has a diverse background in music, understands and can perform a multitude of styles, works well with others, is charismatic, and has a great ear! As a teacher, he tailors lessons to the individual student based on his/her goals and background, but most importantly, he loves music, and his enthusiasm rubs off on his students and others around him. If you want to learn the harmonica, Gonzalo is the man!

He's a quick thinker on the spot, listens really well, takes the lead and knows when to sick back when needed. He's very engaged in what he does and he appreciates any and all questions when it comes to learning music. I'm always learning something new when I'm playing music with Gonzalo. Great teacher! I've been dabbling with harp for many years, but I couldn't believe how quickly I improved when I started lessons with Joe. We worked on all aspects of harp: the importance of playing tastefully, and of not playing; how to stand, how to breathe; technical aspects, like proper use of mics and what amps work for harp. After just a few lessons my band mates were stunned at my improvement. I've already recomended him to another player.

I've worked with Joe in our band Night Watch Paradox since 2014. He is a consummate band mate and amazingly versatile harmonica player. We play a wide variety of original songs drawing from many musical genres. Joe is able to find the perfect harmonica part to suit each song, whether it's a wailing solo in a blues harp style, or a tasteful and haunting melody on a chromatic harp.

If you're looking for an experienced and accomplished harmonica teacher who will show you the basics, but then take your playing beyond the usual and predictable harmonica tunes, then you should give Joe a call.
