I structure my lessons so students learn what they want to learn, while also building a strong foundation of guitar skills. I typically use Alfred's Basic books and also have the following tools available to use during lessons: flash cards and a metronome. I work with my students on sight reading as well as ear training so they can become better players over time. I also provide students with homework sheet that explains what we have been focusing on, what they have achieved, and what is the expectation for next lesson.

About Hanaa

Mark has been a great teacher for this adult beginner! I take lessons in clawhammer banjo and ukulele with him, and his easy-going nature and skill in identifying ways to improve make it a joyful experience! Highly recommend.

Mr. Sylvester is one of the greatest. He is not just an amazing guitarist, but he is also very kind. He treats people with so much respect. He speaks to me and my mom so nicely. He is very patient. He has a deep knowledge of music and knows how to get the most out of even the least talented people (like me!). He doesn't ever get mad if you make a mistake or forget to bring your music notes. We were so lucky to find Mr. Sylvester.

Mark is a talented musician who plays and teaches multiple stringed instruments. His lessons are always informative and supportive. They are driven by the student’s interest, so anything you want o learn— styles of music, how to do a particular technique, music theory— you can bring to class. And every now and then he organizes a recital— terrifying but great practice!

I had such an amazing experience training with Detrece! She always has such sweet positive energy. I was so happy that with me being more of an advanced singer she was able to teach me about my voice and tips that I never knew! I only had 5 lessons and still had a vocal breakthrough where she helped me realize my range is wider than I thought. She gave me more confidence and is always seeking to share opportunities with me. I’m so grateful to her!!

Through the foundation I've gained by the influences of Mel Bay, Hal Leonard, and Suzuki musical instruction methods, I compile my own teaching materials. Using personally constructed guitar lessons, I demonstrate, instruct, and guide the student based on my assessment of their individual needs, skill level, and progress. Lessons are formulated in Modules, and advancement through them is based on the student's personal aptitude, skill level, and practice commitment. Learning is accomplished by ear as well as through essential methods of musical notation (tablature, 5-line staff, rhythmic comprehension). Students are trained to perform written music as well as to write and express the music within themselves.
I'm an encouraging and motivating guitar teacher with a casual relaxed approach. Teaching new guitarists is very rewarding to me. To see the light come on and watch a student perform a song, express themselves musically, and create their own composition is an awesome experience.

I'm enjoying my lessons with Scott. He has taught me a lot. He makes playing and learning exciting. I can't wait for my next lesson.

I started with Scott as a newbie and he has definitely helped me grow as a guitarist. He takes time and makes things easier to learn. As complicated learning can be, he simplifies it and breaks it down. When I feel like I’m not progressing he always shows me how I am. His modules are easy to follow. His teaching style is compatible with all types of learners whether you are visual, hands on or a listener. It’s not just business with him. He’s always available for questions after or between lessons. He’s knowledgeable in equipment so don’t hesitate to ask for some advice on what to buy. He’s affordable and lesson times are flexible. I highly recommend him for all ages and learning needs.
Curtis
Scott has been a great help to me, filling in the gaps and teaching exactly what I request: techniques, specific songs, and lesson times at work for me. He communicates well and follows up after each lesson with emails.

Interested in playing the acoustic guitar? I've had over ten years of experience teaching guitar, and even more time using the instrument in live performance. If you're a beginner, we can start from the ground up; we'll learn how to hold the guitar, how to tune, and how to strum your first chords. From there, we'll build the lessons around you-what you want to learn and the music you want to play! All music requires you to learn, but I believe your learning experience should be fun, so come into your first lesson thinking about the songs you want to play, because I'll have you strumming it in no time!

About Chris

A short history of my experience with music and education: The first instrument I learned to play was the guitar in 2001. I played the guitar on the worship team at FBC of Midway in Plant City, FL from 2001 to 2005. I began teaching private music lessons in 2003. I played bass guitar in

CHRIS was awesome!!! My first lesson was with a guitar that I’d had for years, he fixed the guitar so that I would have something to practice on, whilst he fixed the guitar he didn’t forget why he was there and went over notes and chords etc, After fixing my guitar we had time to go over the gchord and I pretty much had it as he was walking out the door. I’m very pleased!!!

"I picked up my first guitar around 1960, and took my first real lesson - from Jeff - about 55 years later. I had played off and on before, mainly off, but when I retired from doctoring my wife bought me a package with TakeLessons, and Jeff was the closest to home and had good reviews. I highly recommend him. We focus on the rock, R&B and such that I grew up on. Jeff's knowledge of music is encyclopedic, and he is able to teach it to an old man like me. He plays just about everything, from Jazz to Ukulele. I give him 5 stars. I have learned a lot, limited only by my own lack of practice time, and over the years I have also gained a good friend. Give Jeff a try!"

I'm new to acoustic guitar and these are my first lessons - James is patient and teaches the basics about the instrument, music theory and introduces chords, movement and reading in a way that logically builds. He is approachable and in tune (pun intended) with my learning curve. I look forward to each lesson and learning to play a little better each week!"
