We've only had one lesson so far, but Lisa recommended some great books and shows that will improve my Portuguese. She also gauged my level of knowledge and my preferred method of learning.
I'm looking forward to our future lessons.

Come learn from a language instructor that has studied abroad while learning the language! I've been teaching Spanish for over 25 years! My goal is to help you complete your work or assignments successfully. My goal is also to help you learn some Spanish grammar, vocabulary, and a cultural note about the Latino community each time we meet. You'll definitely benefit and learn MORE Spanish by selecting me as your instructor!

About Naomi
I was originally born in Cincinnati, Ohio in a large family (youngest of nine kids), and we all attended Catholic schools... this is where I started learning Spanish. I have studied it (and English Literature) for many years, then eventually won a scholarship to study/travel in Mexico for six months. I returned from Mexico fluent, graduated from college with honors in language and Humanities, then decided to go live in Washington, DC to use that language. I got into corporate training, working 10 years at Fannie Mae as I traveled to 38 of the 50 states to help them train banks on their financial systems. I later began working in healthcare, and got certified as an interpreter AND as an Instructional Designer. I have designed educational programs ever since at hospitals, schools, educational centers, retail organizations, and with hig
her education (now at GWU). My hobbies include speaking Spanish, swimming, listening to jazz, playing with my daughter and my beagle.

If you are looking for a Spanish teacher look no further! Naomi is a very skilled and phenomenal teacher. I have taken her class for the last 10 months and I truly can see the progress I have made with her teaching style. She not only has set lessons from the book, but she will bring real-world examples such as food, newspapers, and music! I recently traveled to the Dominican Republic and I was amazed at how easily I was able to hold a conversation. The people there let me know that my Spanish was very good. It was definitely a compliment for me. I believe that a student is only as good as their teacher. Naomi is the right teacher!

OMG my excitement is through the roof after my first lesson with Humberto! I can't even get my feet to touch the ground. I am an adult, basically starting from scratch picking up my violin for the first time in 20+ years having played for a year as a kid. I was so nervous, and feel silly starting at such an elementary level, and Humberto's instruction was not only expert, but his enthusiasm was completely genuine. He was authentically supportive every step of the way and thrilled at every moment of progress. His infectious smile made me feel so safe being a novice starting over and so excited for my next lesson...which he's not teaching me in Spanish since he learned I need to practice my dusty Spanish skills as well! Couldn't recommend him highly enough, love love love Humberto and can't wait til next week's lesson!

I'm so pleased that we found Humberto to be my daughter's violin teacher last spring. She's clearly improving and expanding her skills. We also notice that she enthusiastically practices between weekly lessons. This excellent learning experience would not have been possible without the high quality teaching.

Our daughter has recently switched to Viola and I've no doubt she will continue to learn and enjoy learning from Humberto as she has already done with the violin.

I'm 14 and Mr. Humberto treats me like an adult. Mr. Humberto is extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and patient. He slowly squeezes out all the bad habits that I had and puts good techniques in their place. He pushes me to be a better violinist. I am enjoying my time under Mr. Humberto's direction.

Language learning must be personalized! What are your interests; sports, art, politics, animals, the environment? I will find out what you like and tailor lessons with music, shows, articles, games and conversation that apply to YOUR interests. More intrinsic motivation will help you learn.
I have 6 years experience teaching Spanish levels 1- Honors IV at the high school level, am a trained medical interpreter and taught English for 1 year in Granada, Spain, in addition to living in Germany.
Additionally, I have a BA in Spanish Language and Literature from the University of Maryland at College Park and have studied at the graduate level at American University.

About Ashleigh
I'm a former Spanish teacher who has taught taught levels 1-IV for the last 4 years. Prior to that, I lived in Germany as a military spouse where I taught yoga. Before Germany, I taught Spanish for two years at a private boarding school in Raleigh, North Carolina. My first teaching position, however, was in Granada, Spain where I taught English at a rural school near Granada, Spain having won a fellowship after university graduation.
Although my bachelors is in Spanish Language and Literature I am studying TESOL at American University where I have completed 12 credits in language assessment, second language acquisition and linguistics. My classes are engaging and personalized. For my athlete students, I find articles and clips about their sport that we build language around. I do the same for the interests of my other students, ther
eby making their connection to the language personal and intrinsic. In our tutoring sessions, there will be music, video and games! Because I am a teacher, I can help you liaise with your student's teacher in a way that will help us understand how to help your student.

Your drum teacher will likely show you at least one method, but as you grow as a musician, meet other drummers and improve your techniques, you'll also develop your own preferences in tuning.
