The main focus is on technique (bowing, fingerings) while covering any classical repertoire. I can also cover jazz, rock/pop if the student wishes.

About Nathan
I have been teaching private lessons for close to 10 years and have been an active performer for even longer, playing in all different types of groups, from rock bands and jazz groups to orchestras and brass bands. I studied music at Frostburg State University (Bachelors) and the Peabody Conservatory (Masters). I can teach just about any age and skill level and cover anything you are interested in learning; whether its a certain style, genre, technique or song.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are laid back, with a focus on perfecting the basics. Most students work out of a method book appropriate to their skill level. Aside from that we'll also spend time learning songs and pieces of the students choice. With the right amount of effort, you'll know your way around your instrument in no time at all

*** Travel Equipment ***
Will provide sheet music and exercises. My students should have a working instrument as well as any method book or sheet music we are working on.

*** Specialties ***
I teach all styles and genres

My daughter really enjoyed her lesson with Nate. He shared some tricks with her that she was showing me in the car on the way home. She never does that. She left very excited to learn more!

Bass is my primary instrument. Upright is a great new challenge for any electric player.

About Ross
My music experiences have lead me all over the world thanks to having great music teachers and a great college education. After finishing my Master's Degree in music, from Rutger's University the State University of New Jersey in 2015, I became a Music Director for big cruise lines. I spent the last 4 years traveling around the world, leading bands and musicians, and performing with touring headliners and in big production shows. Before all of this my favorite occupation of all time was teaching music going all the way back to high school. I am now based out of Portland and am once again enjoying teaching and arranging music full time.

Ross totally knows his stuff. He can teach rock, jazz, blues, heck even classical bass. He has a masters degree in Jazz with a focus on the bass. His teaching style is very friendly and supportive. He has been involved in teaching the bass for years ( along with guitar, piano, etc. and knows music theory like a pro ) in addition to other music profession jobs centered on conducting, teaching and performing.

Classical music-focused, fun and relaxed environment, experienced teacher with top conservatory background

About Jessica
Jessica moved to the Chevy Chase/Bethesda area in 2009, having grown up and gone to school in New York and Ohio. She loves the area, and she and her husband are thrilled to be putting down roots in the community. As a performer, Jessica has traveled around the world, but throughout her career teaching has been one of her most important focuses. "As a relative newcomer to the DC area, growing my private studio has been a great way to get involved in the community. My teaching style is individualized, but I always try to include two important things: building a strong basic skill set, and developing creativity."

*** Lesson Details ***
Whether your goal is to make it into All-State, give a solo recital, play tunes at family gatherings, or just try something new for the very first time, I will help you succeed and have a good time along
the way.

In my view, the most interesting thing about performing music is that it is one of the few activities that engages both the left and the right brain at the same time. With that in mind, my teaching places equal importance on developing strong technique, and developing creativity. Students learn all the basics of music, and also spend time developing strong ensemble skills and strong background knowledge of style and repertoire, so that they can enjoy music in all kinds of settings, all their lives.

Knowing from experience how "boring" it can be to learn by rote, I combine technical work with fun time playing duets together, improvising, and exploring a wide variety of styles and genres of music. After all, there is no experience so motivating as hearing a new piece that you HAVE to learn to play yourself!

*** Studio Equipment ***
lessons in either living room or upstairs office; Steinway baby grand piano in living room;

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect piano students to have daily access to either a piano or a keyboard with 88 full-sized, weighted keys. Bass or cello students must have their own bass or cello.

*** Specialties ***
classical, baroque, renaissance

I had a great first lesson with Jessica. The lesson took place in a comfortable studio in her house. We discussed my goals and then reviewed where I am currently. She paid carefully attention to my body position with the bow and had several great suggestions on exercises to improve it. I'm already looking forward to the next lesson.

I really enjoy taking piano lessons with Jessica. It had been 40 years since I took lessons (as a teenager). Jessica's manner as well as her knowledge and love of music is just what I was hoping to find in a teacher. Her ability to explain musical concepts and her thoughtful approach to teaching has far surpassed my expectations. She gives great constructive feedback and ensures that you understand what she is saying. She is very positive and patient. I thoroughly enjoy my lessons with her and recommend her strongly.

About Ray
Hello!

My name is Ray, I'm 30 years old, and was born in Queens, NY. I studied classical music for many years as a youngster at the Aaron Copeland School of Music college preparatory program. During this program I was introduced to Jazz, and around the same time began experimenting with synthesizers. I went on to study Electronic Production & Design at Berklee College of Music in Boston, and quickly became a very sought after studio musician and performer.

I've been successfully teaching many instruments and proficiency levels for 16+ years now, and can say with pride that teaching is my passion, and I anticipate it being a very important part of the rest of my life.

I enjoy reading nonfiction books on science, math, and philosophy, and am building a career as a pop music producer.

*** Lesson Details ***
My music lessons
are unique for three main reasons:

1. I have a very deep understanding of music, sound, and theory, and feel music to be one of my native languages.

2. I have devoted considerable amounts of time and energy studying neuroscience, which has greatly improved my understanding of the learning process.

3. I have been blessed with the tremendous amount of patience necessary to guide a student through the necessary steps it takes to learn at whatever pace is optimal, in order to maximize the efficiency of the learning process for each individual.

*** Equipment ***
Students must have their own instrument, and purchase their own materials (books, etc). From time to time I make my way to a local music shop, and am happy to purchase materials for reimbursement.

*** Specialties ***
Classical music is my background, and what I believe to be the most cognitively and emotionally fulfilling style of music to study and play. That said, I'm also a big fan of pop music (as well as other genres), and encourage students to enjoy learning their favorite songs from the radio.

My understanding of music theory is extremely thorough, and I'm happy to incorporate as much or as little of it as the student's interest dictates, nevertheless maintaining the minimal amount of theory necessary to get the most out of learning music and the instrument.

Thanks for checking out my profile! Please contact me with any additional questions you may have, as well as to inquire about day/time availability. I'll do my best to get back to you right away (usually within a few hours).

Perfect first session. Michael adapted to Rory's deep understanding of music theory but total lack of knowledge of the bass. He was thoughtful, patient, and adaptive introducing the bass and providing practice suggestions to Rory. I recommend Michael in the highest terms as an instructor for beginners and knowing his vast education and experience in the bass I must assume this travels though the entire range of students - beginner to advanced. We look forward to the next lesson.

Want to learn how to play the upright as well as the electric bass! I can gladly assist with both! I love each instrument equally and would be more than willing to teach you the ways around the upright bass.

About Matthew
Hello!
My name is Matthew and I am a student at Belmont University studying everything that has to do with Bass. I am 20 years old and have extensive experience teaching people of all ages both music and sports! I am very relaxed and understand the desire to learn songs and things you enjoy hearing on the radio over scales and arpeggios. Through what you enjoy listening to and playing we can incorporate everything else, such as scales and arpeggios, to help you gain an understanding for the reason music sounds the way it does and how the bass influences that! Look forward to hearing from you all and helping you become the best bass player that you can be!

Experienced teacher in a variety of instruments and subjects. My goal as a teacher is not only to make you excel in your instrument, but to provide a foundation of theory, ear training, and skills that will help you stand out from the crowd. I hope to give every student the opportunity to make music that they are proud of, and to feel like they are improving at their instrument every time we meet. Most of all, I want you to grow and enjoy the process of growing!

About Keegan
Though I am primarily an orchestral bass player, I am lucky to have a wide variety of opportunities to perform, including playing jazz on bass and guitar, marching in a world-class drum and bugle corps as a trumpet player, and marching in my high school drumline as well as a winter drumline. I am currently studying music at Central Michigan University, and have received my Bachelors and Masters degrees in English and Communication, respectively.

All this to say: I take pride in being a diverse, well-educated individual with a variety of skills and experiences, and I use these skills to help my students grow in their own endeavors. Being a great musician is more than just being proficient on your instrument; it requires a knowledge of theory, history, and ear training, as well as both technical and musical knowledge of the instrument. It
requires confidence in public speaking and interpersonal communication, all of which are skills that I am experienced in teaching and able to teach to students.

Yes, our number one goal will be achieving mastery on the instrument, but creating a well-rounded individual ready to take on music at the collegiate and professional levels is my goal for students, and my background makes me uniquely equipped to do just that!

I love teaching and learning from students, and I can't wait to meet you and start (or continue) your musical journey together!
