With private teaching experience and a degree in Jazz Composition & Professional Music from Berklee College of Music, Granville adopts the teaching methods of the accomplished performers and educators who instructed him, such as the late Joe Morello(Dave Brubeck), Terri Lyne Carrington (Grammy Award winning artist), Dave DiCenso(Hiromi, Josh Groban) among others.

Granville's curriculum centers on the building blocks; great technique to empower flexibility in his students. He uses methods perfected by Alan Dawson (The Rudimental Ritual), Gary Chaffee (Odd Time Stickings), Sanford A. Moeller (The Moeller Technique), and other great teachers while employing methods he has found successful through his years of teaching.When necessary, music theory elements are employed to teach song form, dynamics and overall musicianship.

I teach with an encouraging, positive mentality that will foster fun and a love for the drums! For beginners, I start from the ground up with proper technique, rudiments, musicality, all while ensuring room for creativity and curiosity.

After that, and for drummers with a little more experience, you'll learn to:
-Use rudiments in a musical and practical way on the kit
-Build your drum vocabulary
-Play musically and with purpose
-Read and write music
-Write fast charts for gigging

I teach out of my music studio in my home, a roomy and professional space with a beautiful kit to play on, or online.

My teaching technique is learner-centered. I work with students to help them build a strong vocabulary of drum rudiments and have them apply their newly acquired drumming knowledge to the songs and genres that interest them most. I have found this to be ideal for those at the beginning and intermediate levels. For the advanced drummers out there, I may be able to assist with some minor application of technique or perhaps deviate from standard drumming practices to acquire a fuller awareness of the body's interaction with not only the drumsticks and drum set, but how to maintain total postural awareness.

For those interested in flamenco, I have a lifetime of experience with the rhythms of flamenco, am a professional cajón player, and study/perform flamenco guitar.

Through my work with the M Gray Music Academy (Macy Gray) and my tenure at the Hollywood School of Rock as teacher and Show Director, I have developed successful programs for students ranging in age from 5 years old and beyond. I have mentored numerous young musical groups in beneficial rehearsal techniques, live performance and basically all the things you need to know about being in a band that wants to be great!

As we explore the exciting world of music, guitars, drums and percussion, we will cover all aspects of music theory, music history and ear training through video, audio and text examples.

Students will be provided with all the necessary tools to fully understand musical concepts and have the ability to play for recreation or at a professional level.

You won't need any books to start but I do suggest a small 3 ring binder for notes, literature, weekly hand outs and homework .
