Matt has a knack for teaching drums via his personality and experience. My son quickly improved from square one while enjoying this new instrument. Matt was able to find the cues and communication techniques that helped my son learn to love the instrument. All this while using skype! Matthew is a fantastic drum teacher. My 8 year old son recently started lessons with Matthew, and he is so excited to come home and practice. Matthew's home studio is immaculate and inviting for budding musicians! Thank you Matthew for making our son's first experience with lessons challenging and fun at the same time. I am even learning musical terminology with my son ( I even secretly practice the drums when no one is around - it's like 2 for the price of one!).

I am a guitar player making the transition to piano. In just the three short months I have been taking lessons from Melissa, she has improved my ability to sight read, deepened my knowledge of music theory, helped me learn over 20 songs on piano. I have have many music teachers over the last two decades and Melissa is, by far, the most knowledgeable, patient, and encouraging.

Great Experience. Can't wait for my second lesson.
Scott C. Seattle, WA

In teaching guitar since 2005, I've observed that for most of us the challenge of learning to play well is often overshadowed by the challenge of consistently maintaining the time and habits necessary to build skill at anything beyond a glacial and dispiriting pace.

In response to this, I work with students to not only learn technique and develop understanding, but to pack mindful presence, curious pleasure, and focused awareness into their efforts in order to get the most possibility out of them.

My instruction is founded upon a series of essential points I call 'The 10,000 Things'. Lessons are tailored to accommodate each student - young or adult, just starting or having plateaued after years of playing - on whatever level they might need. In general, a series will weave in facets of the following...

We'll strategize a plan for regular practice that works with the student's schedule to get the most out of each moment spent with the guitar.

We'll use technical exercises, ...

About Scott

Scott C. is a Seattle-area singer/songwriter, musician, and artist offering private, individually-focused instruction since 2005 in multiple areas of self expression including for guitar for performance, pleasure, and personal growth; creative storytelling through songwriting, music theory, and metaphor exploration; and personal voice development. Having worked with students from 9 to 60 years of age from zero to 30 years of experience playing, Scott has recognized that each student brings a distinct investment and style to the work of personal development. However, committing quality time in which to retain, practice and nurture new skills beyond scheduled lessons tends be a nearly universal struggle in the 21st century. For busy minds in a busy world, Scott works intentionally to ...

Took guitar lessons from Scott for about a year! I was such a beginner I didn't even have a guitar at the time! Not only did he find a lovely guitar for me, his lessons were awesome. He was always on time, very patient and took your improvement seriously. Great guy and great teacher. Highly recommend!

I took guitar lessons from Scott for about 6 months when I was living in Seattle. He had a room in his house dedicated to music and he was always prepared for our lesson together. Scott not only taught me different basics and techniques of playing as well as theory, but he also helped me break some self-taught bad habits. Scott encouraged me to look at and listen to music in a different way than just strumming a chord or plucking a string. He taught me how to play with my heart and to play with passion. He also told me about "The Song" which is that moment in playing that you just play whatever shows up and you keep playing and everything around you disappears. And its in this moment that real music happens and your experience of life shifts. If you choose Scott as your instructor, I promise you will not be disappointed.

I had 8 guitar lessons with Scott, and if it wasn't for moving out of state, I would have kept going much longer. Scott is extremely skillful, but also continuously re-considering what he knows, and looking at things from different angles. This really makes him an amazing teacher, as he both shares that learning and curiosity with you, and also is able to give you a different way of looking at things if you're having trouble or just want a deeper understanding. I've enjoyed tinkering with my guitar for many years, but Scott really helped me find the right tools to enjoy practicing, learning, and exploring the instrument.
