Kortnee is a fabulous teacher! She came into our home and taught my 9 and 11-year old daughters piano once a week. Both girls thrived and looked forward to their lessons. The progress they made in one year with Kortnee was impressive. We have moved out of state and the biggest regret is that we can't find another piano teacher like Kortnee. We miss her and her enthusiasm for teaching music. Best instructor ever!

Kortnee is amazing!!

I actually take both piano and flute from Kortnee. Her energy is contagious and she knows many styles of music. She is always ready to support what I want/need to do and can give me a tip within minutes that will help me forever. I can puzzle over a phrase or mood, and she will immediately "get it". She loves to see me have fun, and loves to help me over the rough spots.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

About Robin

I am an enthusiastic teacher who focuses on helping my students master the basics. I obtained a double degree in music and music education from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where I studied piano with Clement C. Petrillo. I furthered my education with a master's degree in music education from U.T.S.A.. My students will benefit from my knowledge of repertoire and technique to achieve their goals. I strive to find music my students will want to play that is accessible, but will also stretch their abilities. I have taught in both the public and private schools for over
thirty-five years and I know how important it is for students to feel both comfortable and challenged.

I strive to maintain a comfortable, but professional, atmosphere in my home studio. I use the Robert Pace piano series as a base curriculum, but include other method books when supplements are needed. Beginners can expect to be playing with both hands, using basic chords to harmonize known tunes, and playing in three keys, C,F,and G, within three to six months. More advanced students can expect similar rates of progress depending on their musical goals and level of commitment.

I can highly recommend Hayes as an instructor for beginning students. He has a great personality, really connects with kids, and is very enthusiastic about music and teaching. He is very patient, explains things clearly to my son, and always teaches in a professional manner. My son has taken lessons for 6 months and we are really happy with Hayes' lessons.

I enjoyed taking lessons with Hayes. He is a very motivated professional with the desire in driving his student into achieving his/her goal. He is patient at teaching, and listens intently to the special needs of his students making sure that those needs are addressed and taken cared off.
If there is any Saxophone instructor out there that I would recommend, it will be Hayes.

I've completed a few lessons now with Hayes and I am very impressed. He has a teaching style that is flexible enough to teach different types of students. He doesn't rush you but does continue to challenge. I have seen significant progress already and plan on continuing my lessons with him.

Clare M.

Converse, TX

About Clare

My training started when I was very young, age 7, with piano lessons. Since then, I have been playing music my whole life, and I love it! I received my Bachelor's in Music Performance 2001, and will receive a Master's in Music Education in 2016. I am currently looking to start my private studio for ages 5 - 75, in string instruments violin, viola, cello, and beginner piano!

For the very young student, ages 5 -7, violin or piano is preferred, and I would love to get more of the little ones interested in music! The lessons are also a great "mommy and me time" format, a great way to spend ti
me with your child! I have found lots of success with this age group, by using a curriculum that I have developed which is based on the Suzuki method mixed in with classical training and fiddle training. Although I am not Suzuki certified, I use concepts and materials taken from this master teacher. From studying his philosophy and principals through research, I have found the Suzuki method as a very holistic and "easy-to-understand" teaching method for young ages.

For adult students, I have found success in teaching a curriculum that just lets you play music and develop a love for your instrument. I mainly teach adults using lots of music from pop tunes, holiday music, fiddle and Americana music. My curriculum for adults is more about making music and less about playing scales and etudes, although focus on technique is integrated within the type of music books we use.

I also teach middle school and elementary school students all instruments, violin, viola, and cello.
Students excel at a very high level with my training. This group will be asked to study music in the classical training method with scales, etudes, and standard classical repertoire, and help with their school orchestra music. Please inquire about training for this age group in person.

*** Lesson Details ***
Beginner lessons are great fun! Watch how the instrument turns into clay that molds to your hand, your musical talent. I love to see the amazement in the student when they realize playing a musical instrument is not as difficult as it may look. Each subsequent lesson is a building process, building upon the foundation from the previous lesson. It is imperative that students practice! Practice whenever you get a chance, even a little bit goes a long way. Pick up the violin for ten minutes while you wait for the meal to cook in the evening or waiting for the laundry to finish. Then, find some time to sit quietly in a comfortable space and focus just on the tone and quality of your playing.

*** Studio Equipment ***
My home studio.

*** Specialties ***
I also hold a yearly spring recital to allow my students to perform, all ages included. This is always great fun and very rewarding! Plus, I'm really excited about my adult students, who are "up and coming" artists! I'm looking to start an adult ensemble for a separate recital to showcase their hard work and enjoyment of playing for the sake of playing a musical instrument! Please inquire about the adult group, even if you have just a little bit of interest in learning the fantastic violin, viola, cello, or piano! It is great fun!

If you're someone who is new to music and looking for the right teacher, give Clare a call.

I've recently had the pleasure of taking violin lessons with Clare for eight months. I am an adult violin student and before I took lessons from Clare I had virtually zero previous musical training. Clare was the perfect teacher for me. She kept me interested and motivated to learn. Her lessons were well thought-out, well taught and, just as importantly, they were just plain fun. Because of Clare I feel like I have an excellent foundation from which to continue my learning. If I wasn't moving away because of a new job I would definitely still be taking lessons from her.

As an adult, I was kind of nervous to start learning a musical instrument, especially one as tricky as the violin. Clare helped me immensely. She's a wonderful teacher.
