Charis B.

Woodstock, IL

About Charis

I have a B.S. in Music Education. I have worked with several disabled students patiently guiding them, finding creative ways to make music accessible to them. I believe it is not about me or the parent, but the student. I work with children of all ages believing that we can find a way that works so that in a few months you see results. Anyone can learn to sing or play but not everyone is going to enjoy it without the right approach and teacher. I don't want to hear a student say that the teacher didn't listen to me, they wouldn't entertain my ideas.
In my studio I have two piano's and
a keyboard. We have monitors and microphones and the ability to record. I encourage the composer to the pop music player, from the classical artist to the Broadway singer.
Currently, I have several students that compose their own music, helping one of those students to become a copyrighted artist.

*** Lesson Details ***
For the child I have had the most success with the Bastien method and for the Adult pianist I usually use Alfred's method books. I constantly have access to musicnotes.com to download any current or older hit in addition to the method books. I want you to learn to note read and then to play by chords. I never want the student to lose their creative, artistic ability. They should feel welcome at all times to add input to the lesson. I want you to have fun learning and find the ability in you to make music. Please contact Takelessons if a time does not suit your availability. I may be able to work something out.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I own my music studio w/ piano, seating for parents. I have vocal equipment, microphones and monitors

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will have a music bingo game with me and whatever else is needed to supplement the lesson

*** Specialties ***
I teach any style and method that is needed. I teach note reading and playing classical music to playing by chords and learning how to split the voicing

Nathaniel S.

Crystal Lake, IL

About Nathaniel

Hello my name is Nate. I have been playing guitar since my early teenage years, and I have always had a great passion for music. I have played guitar for two different bands and have also done solo and independent work on the guitar. I took guitar lessons for four years and I am currently at McHenry Country College working towards my associate's degree in fine arts and music. I have taught guitar for almost three years now and I am looking to expand my horizons! I am only twenty-one years old and I still remember what it feels like to be someone first starting out on guitar. I have worked with
many different age groups and musical genre's when teaching, and I know that I can help you get to the skill level you hope to achieve on guitar.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are generally plan-based around the pre-existing skill level of each individual student. I will give the student exercises and assign practice "homework" so the student can achieve what they want to learn, as fast as they want to learn it. I am laid back and willing to teach at any pace desired by any student. After six months a beginner on guitar will have learned all the basic chords, a few cover songs of their choice, exercises to help improve speed and stamina while playing, and the knowledge of how to use the chords they have learned to create their own songs.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Basement studio, guitars, amps, mics, pa system, bass guitars, street parking.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in teaching the playing of acoustic guitar, punk-rock guitar, alternative rock guitar, classic rock guitar, metal guitar, and pop rock guitar. I also specialize in teaching song-writing and soloing. I teach the classical modes and key signatures on the guitar and show how to implement them with tempo and time signatures into songwriting. I know many cover songs and am willing to learn more and show others how to play them.

Two thumbs up!

Nate’s knowledge and interest in guitar is evident. He explains key signatures, basic music theory, and chord progression in a way that is easy to understand. Nate is very patient and understanding and he is willing to teach just about anything you wish to learn. I’ve already learned so much in the short time I have taken lessons with him. I’d recommend taking lessons with Nate to anyone and everyone!

Songwriting
Nate knows music, and knows how to teach it.

I have been in a band with Nate for almost three years now. He knows the guitar like it's a part of him. When I first picked up the guitar I was amazed at how quickly he was able to teach me, and at how quickly I learned. I drum for Nate's band, but I wanted to learn guitar so I could help with the writing of new songs. Nate showed me all I needed to know and more. I no longer take lessons with him because I gained all the knowledge of guitar I needed to. Nate was very good at relating the instrument to me in a way that I understood, and showing me not only how to play certain things, but why they were played that way. I would recommend him to anyone first starting out on the guitar.

Eric J.

Elgin, IL

About Eric

Hi.
I'm Eric and I own a Music Lesson Studio in Elgin, IL.

I specialize in working with beginners of any age as well as advanced students who are interested in taking their playing to the next level. Here are some of the things I like to focus on.

Child beginners: Learning to read music. Building confidence and self esteem through learning to play guitar. General music education. Teaching children songs they enjoy to listen to.

Adult Beginners: Learning to play popular rock songs. Chord strumming. Having a nice, relaxing, no pressure lesson.

Advanced students: Learning to read mu
sic at a professional level. Lead guitar. Jazz improvisation.

I'm a professional, full time musician and educator and my guitar has been paying my bills my entire adult life. I have real world, professional experience playing and teaching guitar as well as bass guitar, drums, piano, mandolin and more on countless gigs here in Northern, IL. I teach between 30-50 private students per week. I have taught hundreds of students in the past 12 years how to reach their musical goals. I've played tons of theater. I played guitar, mandolin, and drums as a swing musician for the Chicago Production of Jersey Boys at the Bank of America Theater in 2008. In 2014 I played a lot theater gigs for local productions such as Little Shop of Horrors (bass), Hands on a Hardbody (Guitar, Steel/Slide) and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat (guitar). I grew up as a gigging rock n roll/blues guitar player, but my heart is in jazz. I am confident and fluent in, and have gigged most styles of guitar playing.

I met with Eric at his studio in Elgin, and he was extremely friendly and welcoming. He gave me a very good and informational lesson on some specific musical questions I had about progressing in my saxophone career. He gave me specific instructions on places to visit, useful websites, and names of people. This information may seem trivial, but I was at a personal stopping point on some issues, and Eric provided the tools for me to continue. I highly recommend Eric to anyone looking to learn what it means to be a professional.

Brit E.

Fox River Grove, IL

About Brit

As a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Berklee College of Music, I attended the most prestigious contemporary music school in the world. I was exposed to so many amazing styles of music and rubbed shoulders with the most incredible musicians you can imagine (and performed alongside them)! I have taken my experiences and knowledge from Berklee and infused it into my teaching style. I do use Suzuki method because I believe it is an excellent foundation to work upon, but I also think that jazz and contemporary studies are a great way to expand one's horizon and learn about music in an entirely new and
fun way!

Brit is punctual, consist, and very likeable. My son enjoys his lesson with her. Yes, she is a very good cellist, but teaching ability is most important to us. Great job!

I have 4 sons aged 21 to 12. They have all taken piano over the years from multiple teachers. Ms. Lana is the best teacher we have ever had by far. She is warm, caring, knowledgable and organized. She sets high yet achievable expectations for her students. I have been amazed at the growth in my sons musicality and interest while taking lessons from Ms. Lana. I feel very fortunate that we found her!

Great teacher! Ms. Lana has been in our home for the last 12 years teaching both of my daughters and their expertise is a testament to her teaching ability. Over 12 years, they have learned to read and play very complicated pieces all the while enjoying her lessons and her company. After each lesson, she grades the students performance and gives a very brief report to the parents on how the student is progressing. She encourages parental involvement and genuinely cares for the entire family. Lana is a pleasure to have in your home and a very positive educator for youngsters. I have recommended her to many of my neighbors and she is in high demand in Glenview.
