Zbigniew R.

Ann Arbor, MI

About Zbigniew

My greatest desire is that I will instill in each of my students the love I have for making music.
I am a classically-trained violinist. I grew up in Lodz, Poland, where I began musical education at the age of 7.
I studied violin and piano at the Music High School and Music Academy of K.&G. Bacewicz, Lodz, Poland and earned a Master Degree in violin performance in 1980.
During his College years I started to perform with the Symphony Orchestra of Polish Radio and Television.
From the mid – 70s until the early 1990s, I performed with several Polish orchestras
and held a position as a v
iolin teacher for four years at the College of Education
in Slupsk, Poland.
Then, I spent almost 10 years performing in numerous ensembles and orchestras in Germany and toured with Orchestra of Great Theater of Lodz in many countries all over the world.
From 2002 – 2005 he was first violinist at Lodz’s Operetta Theater.
I moved to Michigan in 2005, where he performs with Macomb, Jackson and Flat Rock Symphony Orchestras.

*** Lesson Details ***
The most interesting and beneficial thing about performing music is that it is one of the few activities that engages both the left and the right brain at the same time. I believe that every Human Being is precious and deserves to be nurtured and encouraged in a fun and loving environment. With that in mind, my teaching places equal importance on developing strong technique, and developing creativity. Students learn all the basics of music, and also spend time developing strong ensemble skills and strong background knowledge of style and repertoire, so that they can enjoy music in all kinds of settings, all their lives.
Our time spent together will be laid back and comfortable, yet challenging because that is probably why you want to take lessons.
Each lesson will conclude with an assignment of instrumental pieces/songs given to work on throughout the week—usually 2-3 short songs for 30-minute lessons, and 1-2 longer instrumental pieces for an hour-long lesson. These will be the same pieces we have worked on during the lesson time, so you will go home with the knowledge you need to master each piece. Music theory sheets and technique exercises will also be included in the assignments.
Within 6 months, you will begin discovering how to read music and understand the language of it. You will learn how to play some of your favorite songs/instrumental pieces and learn some that you might not know. We'll discover what you really want to learn and achieve through taking lessons, and we will work toward those goals!
Discipline is vital to musical progress and daily practice is strongly urged, in order for the student to progress. If a students don't practice, they won't progress. Because of that, you can expect that I will encourage consistent and regular practice, always keeping in mind that the study of music is meant to be fun.
Knowing from experience how "boring" it can be to learn by rote, I combine technical work with fun time playing duets together, improvising, and exploring a wide variety of styles and genres of music.
I would be honored to share my knowledge and love of music with you. Give yourself a priceless gift that will last a lifetime!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Grand Piano /Hammond Organ

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect the student to have their own instrument. I can provide the music stand and I always bring my own instrument so that I can demonstrate during lessons.

*** Specialties ***
Teaching methods: Suzuki and traditional /formal method, in group and one on one settings

Dedicated teacher!

This instructor is very flexible and understanding. He is very knowledgeable and talented and I'm very privileged to be his student. He takes his time to make sure that you are understanding and learning. You can sense his excitement and passion for music and I know that he honestly wants to see me succeed. I even decided to switch instruments after a few lessons and he was very supportive and started all over with me without and objections or irritation!

About Elaina

Whether you like Mozart or Carrie Underwood, good singing is good singing. The fundamentals I teach support healthy, sustainable vocal production that you can use in choir AND at karaoke night.

I just earned my Master of Music degree in Voice Performance at the University of Michigan, and I have a Bachelor of Music from the University of Southern California. Although my focus is on operatic and classical singing, I have sung musical theater, jazz, and pop as well; I was in an A Capella group in college and have sung with a few local oldies and jazz bands. Whether you are considering a care

Kelly C.

Whitmore Lake, MI

About Kelly

Greetings! My name is Kelly and I have been teaching voice and piano since 1991.

My training in voice/singing/performance/Voice Movement Therapy has been extensive and multi-faceted as has my own performance experience. This has enabled me to successfully guide/mentor students who are not only singers of classical, musical theater, pop, folk, and jazz, but also people who use their speaking voices to teach, present and act.

My teaching approach is more holistic in that it not only addresses the technical and physical influences that affect the singing/speaking process, but also the emoti
onal and psychological influences.

I work with ANYONE who wishes to vocally express themselves more freely and authentically, including those who consider themselves to be tone-deaf.

While voice is my primary instrument, I also teach piano to those who wish to learn to read music and those who would rather learn chords.

I can work with you at Earthbones Studios, at your home, or online through Skype - whichever is most convenient for you.

I have taken two classes with Kelly through Ann Arbor Rec&Ed and both were great experiences. Kelly is a patient, kind, and fun teacher. She did an excellent job going over the fundamentals, and I learned a great deal in both of her classes. I especially appreciated the helpful feedback she gave me--it definitely made me more aware of those areas I need to work on. I would highly recommend her.

Kelly is a very supportive, knowledgeable, fun and gentle singing coach/teacher. She has many talents and a diverse background which allows her to work with students in a very comprehensive and holistic way. I have worked with other singing teachers and Kelly's working knowledge of the physical body far exceeds my previous teachers. I really enjoy taking lessons with Kelly.

In my two year of working with Kelly I've gone from fragile, terrified whisper-singing to singing alone with clear tone and pitch, a Capella, at an open mic. I still have barriers, but with Kelly's encouragement and advice I've learned to recognize their cause, and I've also knocked many down---I have a set of tools to draw on when my nerves start taking over, and I owe this to working with Kelly and her holistic approach to voice training. Kelly is patient with all levels of ability and purpose, and can deal with multiple aspects of training, from emotional barriers to technical challenges.
