Elliott A. New York, NY

About Elliott

I am a classically trained singer living, working, and teaching in NYC. I have a degree in vocal performance from The University of Maryland at College Park. While in the D.C. Metro area I performed as a chorister and soloist at The National Shrine, Metropolitan A.M.E Church, and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. My exposure to a wide range of music, from baroque to contemporary gospel and musical theater, has strongly influenced my teaching. My goal is always to help a student develop their own understanding and experience of singing in a way that is fun, interactive, and personal while also progressively building a strong technique. *** Lesson Details *** My lessons are generally split between technical work/ warm-ups and repertoire. In need of a vocal coach, I searched the Takelessons website and by what I call devine guidance I selected Elliott A. He has been my coach for a little over a year now and I would highly recommend him for his qualifications, passion for singing and his incredible teaching gift. Elliott provides a comfortable environment and really goes extra miles to ensure that concepts he teaches are practically understood. I started with many bad singing habits and poor technique and now I can definitely see great improvement in my technique and vocal freedom. I look forward to continue working with him until and beyond reaching my goal of greatness. In my opinion he's simply the BEST.

Elliot is a gem! He is everything I wanted in an instructor!

I met Elliot through a friend who is also taking lessons from him. As a beginner I was very specific in what I wanted in a teacher--someone who is patient, kind, structured and has no problem starting with the very basic fundamentals in singing. Elliot took me on as a student and has proven to be everything I could have hoped to find in a teacher! Lesson after lesson I feel more confident and capable. I feel stronger in my voice and become more and more excited for singing. Elliot's knowledge of singing technique are showcased throughout the lesson as he explains exactly what is needed to be adjusted in your technique and his patience is key to a full understanding of what is needed to be done. I highly recommend Elliot to any singer looking to train their voice, maintain technique, or broaden their range!

The total package

I have been studying with Elliott for almost two years now and I could not be happier with the progress that we have made. Not only is he very good at communicating what I need to improve upon in the lesson, but also to help me to understand myself so that I remember and make it a habit. He's very reliable and professional, but also he makes a comfortable environment where one feels at ease and never afraid to voice opinions or concerns. I cannot wait to see where this next year takes us. :) He's also great with giving a healthy balance of encouragement in addition to critique.

Professional & Patient Vocal Coach!

I have been working with Ms.Genie for the past few months and I must say I have grown and learned so much in this short time. I am not as trained or accomplished vocally as her other students so I most especially appreciate her encouraging, yet firm approach to my training. I like being driven to go further and dig deeper.

I have so far to go but my willingness to learn, coupled with her willingness to teach; will surely help me to attain my goals as a singer.

Whether you need someone to help you polish your already well trained vocals or need someone to help foster the glimmer of talent you have, Ms. Genie is the instructor for you!

All styles! I will teach you skills you will treasure for the rest of your life.

About Allison

Hi! My name is Allison and I'm an opera singer. I fell madly in love with music and singing as a young child and was bitten by the opera bug at age 15. Ever since seeing that first opera, I've never looked back. I did lead roles in my high school musicals, then got my Bachelor of Music and my Master of Music degrees in Classical Voice and Opera Performance both from competitive conservatories. Ever since graduation, I've been lucky enough to make my work as a professional singer. I've traveled all over the country and even internationally bringing this amazing art form to audiences. Now I feel like my dream has come true because I get to do what I love: sing! Pavarotti said, "I think a life in music is a life beautifully spent and this is what I have devoted my life to." I feel ...

Thorough,Honest,Energetic,Focused, Fun.

I'm a recording artist who sings most genres of music (reggae, soft rock, pop, r&b). I also do a lot club gigs (every weekend & sometimes mid-week) where I have to sing 3 one hour sets most of the time. So I developed a lot of bad habits. Allison is a blessing, not only is she correcting the habits, she's also helping my voice to survive for the rest of my life. I can truly say that I'm feeling improvement in my vocals after a few classes (& practicing at home).I'd highly recommend her as a vocal instructor, coach & teacher for all levels. I always leave the class energized.
Karmyn T. New York, NY

In your lesson, I start where you're at. I identify immediate issues and then put you on a regimen to move you toward your vocal best. I am a stern but encouraging teacher. I expect a vocalist/speaker to practice.

Each lesson is recorded and emailed so you can listen and practice. Practicing is imperative to building your vocal muscles, stamina, breathing, support and performance skills.

I use proven techniques to improve your voice by teaching the vocal muscles to work symmetrically improving your natural sound, support and create a balance in breath pressure.

I am a trained Opera singer, jazz vocalist and musical theatre performer (AEA) and have training in Adult and Child Vocal Pedagogy both in college and with the National Association of Teachers of Singing of which I am a full member.

***I specialize in teaching classical singers how to transits to a contemporary sound without losing their classic sound.***

About Karmyn

Hi! My name is Karmyn Tyler C. and I am a professional singer/actress and vocal teacher/technician. In my journey to become a vocal artist, I struggled to find the proper technique that allowed me to sing both classical and musical theatre. Being a professional vocalist, I had to find something that worked and worked NOW.

Along with the guidance and genius of Dallas-based vocal teacher and composer, Bill Bauer, I have developed a safe, powerful technique for all vocal genres. I guarantee that you will sing and/or speak better than you ever have.
I have taught both singing and acting for over 15 years and have the honor of working with some amazing students including, American Idol finalist Rachel Hale, Singer/Song writer Sara Skinner, Actress Molly Quinn, Actor John R Colley, ...

Karmyn taught me how to sing correctly!

SO grateful to have Karmyn as my vocal coach . I decided to take voice lessons at around 50 after wanting to sing all my life, but never having the courage. I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!! And, with much thanks to Karmyn, who has supported me from the start and who has taught me how to sing correctly. I will sing the rest of my life.

Taylored to the Student

Working with Karmyn is a pleasant experience; she's an incredibly nice lady and -- unlike some teachers -- sets her ego aside to focus on the student's desired outcomes. To that end she allowed me to choose my own song for evaluation so that she could help me move in direction I wanted to go. Honestly, it was a little unnerving singing in front of such an accomplished singer, but Karmyn is very kind and gentle with her guidance. I'm not a professional singer, nor do I ever intend to be; I do it for my own joy and entertainment of friends. I sought Karmyn because I wanted to make small improvements in what I was doing, and ensure that I if I had a bad habit or problem, it could be eliminated.

Karmyn is the real deal; one only has to listen to her music (you can find it on line). What she brings to her teaching is her southern kindness, and a genuine desire to help her students reach their goals, no matter what those goals might be.

Music Theory
Jillian's really smart and nice

I started taking lessons with Jillian around when i started high school a couple years ago. I play french horn in school, and I'm considering studying music in college, so I definitely needed to know more music theory. I play guitar too, so we started studying songwriting, too, so that I can write some songs with my band. Jillian's so nice, and really smart, so she makes it really easy to learn! I really like classes with her.

One of the best teachers I have ever had

I am a 15 years old and have been taking lessons with Jillian for about a year and a half. I started out as a beginner and she was so patient with me and encouraged me continuously so that I can feel confident in myself. She also made the experience so much fun, while other teachers I've had made it stressful. She is also so knowledgable and talented but never made me feel bad that i wasnt at her level. Jillian is also cares about all her students and their progress. I cant recommend her enough to everyone who wants to learn!!

Dr. Regina is an inspiration! I began studying with her in Georgia at Shorter College and eventually transferred to Minnesota to finish my undergraduate degree with her. She is truly passionate about music, and the energy creates an incredible atmosphere for learning! She challenged me as a singer and performer and helped me learn to breathe life into the music--while also transforming my voice. She is a wonderful teacher and I would highly recommend her to anyone. Even a Skype lesson if you can't make it to her in NY. They are quiet helpful! I only wish I lived in the NY area so I could take from her in person. She is wonderful and I hope to continue studying with her for years to come.

I have been studying Voice (mostly emphasized on Broadway Singing) with Regina for a few months now and I am loving the lessons! She has really helped me identify the strong parts of my voice and showcase them while also strengthening those that are not as strong. What sets Regina apart from other teachers I've had in the past is that she does a really excellent job catering to each student's individual needs instead of having a set teaching structure that you have to try to fit yourself into. I also especially like that she will take the time to talk through the technique in a way that makes total sense and even if it doesn't at first, she'll always find a way to explain it differently until you really grasp the concept. Regina is an amazing teacher and I would recommend her to anyone who wants to push their voice to the next level!

Musical Theater
I had the fabulous opportunity to work with Dr. Regina during my four years of Undergraduate study at the University of Minnesota Duluth. While Dr. Regina's expertise and reputation are largely based in classical music, I found her to be a perfect match for my vocal studies in Musical Theater. Her teachings and training were extremely beneficial to me, not only as a vocalist, but as a performer.
What I love about Dr. Regina is that her lessons are very personal focusing as you the student, you the performer, and you the person. I truly felt that she cared about my overall vocal health and growth as a singer. She challenged me with classical repertoire that kept me on track for my juries and made me feel comfortable with all of my class and show material for my Musical Theater studies.
Dr. Regina is a well-rounded vocalist, teacher, performer, and woman. She feels passionately about her craft and her students. It is important to her that each student comes to the understanding of concepts and techniques. I always left my lessons feeling that I had accomplished something and had the tools I needed to put forth my best possible performance. Dr. Regina is a fabulous teacher, with a worldly knowledge of voice and a fantastic sense of humor! You will look forward to every one of your lessons with her!
