Brennan B.

Houston, TX

For students looking specifically to specialize in opera.

About Brennan

Hello and welcome to my profile! My name is Brennan, and singing is my life. I am an opera singer (a mezzo-soprano to be precise) that is currently singing with the Houston Grand Opera chorus and teaching voice in the Houston area. Because I have been studying classical voice for almost 13 years and music in general for 18 years, I know what it takes to improve singing technique and musical skills necessary to be a great musician. As a regular performer, I also know what it takes to get over stage fright and performance anxiety, how to really capture an audience, and how to improvise on the
spot when something goes wrong.

While I was earning my Bachelor's Degree in Music at Pepperdine University, I also worked as a Music Theory tutor, so I have no problem teaching the basics to even the most beginner students. In fact, I love it! If you want to sing in styles other than opera, that's great! While I specialize in classical singing, I can always help you improve your personal style through good technique.

If you are here for speaking voice or public speaking lessons, have no fear, I can help you as well. As a performer, I often have to speak and sing in front of large crowds in many different settings. I can help you overcome stage fright, teach you how to project your voice, give helpful tips and tricks for public speaking, and teach you how to write and give an effective presentation.

For those who need help with Tonal Music Theory, look no further. I was one of two Music Theory tutors for two years at Pepperdine University. It was my job to help fellow students with homework, hold tutoring lessons, and teach aural skills.

In case you wanted to know, here are some of the roles I have played:
The Fox in "The Cunning Little Vixen" by Janacek, Rosina in "Il Barbiere di Siviglia" by Rossini, Hermia in "A Midsummer Night's Dream" by Britten, Margaret Page in "Falstaff" by Verdi, Jo March in "Little Women" by Adamo, Second Woman in "Dido and Aeneas" by Purcell, Third Spirit in "The Magic Flute" by Mozart, Gloria in "Thoroughly Modern Mille" by Tesori and the Stepmother in "Into the Woods" by Sondheim. I have also been a chorus member in many other shows, including "Otello" by Verdi, "Madame Butterfly" by Puccini, "Sweeny Todd" by Sondheim and "La Boheme" by Puccini.

*** Lesson Details ***
I believe in helping the student be the best musician they can be by helping them find their inner voice and working toward a conceivable goal. I am a generally very happy and out-going person, but I am also very driven and hard-working. I love to have fun and joke around with the student while we work hard together to reach their goal. This goal is very important- every student needs to come into their first lesson with a goal in mind so that we have something to work toward together. While I expect hard work and focus during lesson times, it is important to remember that our lesson time is learning time. It is OK to make a mistake, crack, make strange sounds, dance around the room and generally do things that most people do not do in public. In order to find your voice and reach your goal, we might make the strangest sounds and the oddest metaphors you have ever heard, but it will get you the results you want.

Singing is the most organic way to create music, and like all things in this world, it is not perfect. I hope that after taking lessons with me, a student will have gotten closer to or attained their goal and will be able to use their singing voice without fear, shame, or embarrassment, and embrace it for what it is- their own, unique instrument.

*** Travel Equipment ***
If I travel to your home, we would need private space in which to practice. I can bring my own keyboard if you do not have a piano or keyboard.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in Classical Singing, especially Operatic singing.

Brennan is an extremely talented singer, and wonderful teacher. She brings to her lessons a deep understanding of a singer's anatomy, music theory, as well as a joy and enthusiasm that makes voice lessons something my daughter looks forward to. I cannot imagine my daughter taking lessons with anyone else.

Singing should feel as easy as speech… it's that simple. No matter if you're singing high notes, or low notes, loud or soft notes, your throat, jaw and tongue should be as tension free and natural feeling as when you're speaking.

I teach a vocal technique (the way you use your voice when you sing) which allows this free and clear singing throughout a singer's range, without tension or the fear of "cracking". It can be applied to every style of music all without any strain in the voice. Any age, any experience level will advance.

The power of this singing technique is not only the result - a clear, comfortable, effortless voice - but it's also the process, a process that is natural, fun and fast. It's not full of boring technical stuff that goes on for months and years.

Before I began teaching about 25 years ago, he knew I wanted give performers a powerful singing technique that can quickly be applied to every musical style, no matter their age or experience level. It has ...

About Eric

For almost 25 years, I've had the privilege to have worked with thousands of performers who study with me from all over the world. I teach in-studio at my two locations in Houston and in The Woodlands, Texas. I also work with students who come to me from all over the globe via online over-the-web Skype lessons.

Originally from Detroit, I enjoyed being a "Jack of all styles" singer/musician for over 15 years. I was a professional musician performing Classical, Jazz, Pop, Rock, Gospel, Musical Theater, Commercial and Studio work, along with being very involved in Contemporary Christian music.
While I very much loved to perform, I found myself drawn much more to the joy of teaching. Vocal instruction and improvisational piano teaching eventually became my passion, and so I've poured my time and energies into teaching singers and players to become, well… better musicians!

In lessons its really all about you and what you would like to learn. I am comfortable teaching all ages and helping you learn more about the music that you love. Whether that's learning a song to sing to your spouse for an upcoming anniversary, learning essential repertoire to get into the music school of your dreams, or if you have always wanted to learn piano but just never had time before. My job is to help you improve and help you get to where you want to go. However, this is not always an easy task much work and hard practice goes into learning how to sing correctly and/or play piano. Although there are many fun and exciting times there are also times when work needs to get done, and like anything else practice is KEY. So whether you are just starting out or if you have been in lessons for years I look forward to helping you and seeing you thrive. Also, I promise to provide a curriculum that is tailored specifically to you and your needs to help further ...

About Zaneta

I am originally from Chicago, Illinois and now reside in the Maryland/Washington D.C. area. I started singing publicly around the age of 5 and playing piano at 9. From there I have toured overseas to various parts of Europe and across the United States. I have learned various techniques from Classical, to Gospel, to Country, to R&B, to Pop/Rock, to Musical Theatre and many more. In addition to just singing them myself I can effectively teach others the how to sing their favorite genre as well. I have taught for music and arts, Andrews Air Force base and several local music schools. I also help
students preparing for college auditions, and recitals. In addition, I have experience with social media and online presence which can allow vocal singers the opportunity to sing with others and create various performance recordings. On the academic side of things I help tutor students in a variety of subjects and coach them to achieve better grades, and higher test scores to create an attractive college preparation portfolio.

It's Been a while!

Just had my first lesson with Zaneta and it was excellent! I felt very prepared going into this lesson, as she contacted me earlier in the week just to find out what my expectations were. The time management of our lesson was also very good. We did some warm up and got right to work. Then she gave me time to ask any questions I might have (also during the lesson if need be). Overall, this was a great experience considering it's been a while since I have attempted to train/sing with my voice.

Looking forward to upcoming lessons!!!
