Hannah S.

Stow, OH

About Hannah

Hello!
My name is Hannah, and I would love to teach YOU! I am highly motivated, fun-loving, and exceptionally passionate about music-- even more so, having you develop a passion for it as well. I have performed all over the US and even Puerto Rico. With the many years I have studied my various instruments, and also performed with them, I am confident in the abilities I have now and those I continue to develop.
I have a desire for everyone to have some musical knowledge, and an even greater wish for individuals to shift their knowledge into a love for whatever they choose to do musically. I
can teach a variety of styles and enjoy the challenge of learning which ways to teach You best.
Overall, I would call myself a "music dork." I love performing, learning, and teaching; and I do hope you will learn to desire these things too.

*** Lesson Details ***
In a typical lesson, I will often begin with a warm-up. (This is NOT to say that you should not warm up before your lesson. I just like to get a few exercises started so we can be on the same page.) Whether you're taking voice, violin, or piano, you may feel the lessons start off slowly. But, we must learn to crawl before we can stand, and we then must learn to have our feet under us to be able to walk. I will move as fast as you desire to go, as fast as you are willing to work, and as quickly as the technique-development allows. Depending on which instrument you are taking lessons will look like the following:Violin-- I prefer the Suzuki method books for introductory violin. (I do not do the full Suzuki method that requires bowing and the emphasis on playing by ear rather than reading music.) You will need to be sized for a violin and bring it to the lessons. You will learn not only how to play, but proper posture, care of the instrument, and some theory. Theory/Piano background is awesome, but not required. After 3-6 months, I hope you will have learned the basics of posture, bowings, fingerings, and have a few (short) pieces under your belt.Voice-- All voices mature/change at different rates. This being said, I like the first lesson or 2 to be all about assessing what you have at that time. I do NOT push voices. I am very conscious of what is healthy/unhealthy to do with the voice. You will learn this, as well as become very aware of your voice and body and what it is telling you. Music used for lessons varies depending on voice type/age/etc. After 3-6 months, I hope to have you in good posture, beginning the long journey to proper breath support/use, and have a repertoire started. Ultimately, I want students to practice and remember you will get out of it what you put in to it. I will work as hard as I can to see you succeed, but the rest is up to you! Just practice, stick with it, and we will work through this together!

I originally found Hannah as a violin teacher for a friend of mine, and she worked very well for him, so when I decided to go back to piano, I sought her out.

I have been taking Piano with Hannah for about a year. She is a wonderful teacher, who is very encouraging as well as knowledgeable. She is able to intermix theory and practice together so that I leave each lesson with a deeper understanding of the instrument and the music itself. She has proven very flexible and willing to work around obstacles in my schedule and has never made me feel bad when I haven't prepared as well as I should have, yet she consistently motivates me to continue to stretch and I always look forward to my lessons with her, and leave the lessons excited and eager to practice.

My 18 year old son chose Robin and absolutely loves her. She is warm supportive kind and a great teacher. He loves her and chose to increase his lessons to twice a week. He studies music theory and voice and within a short time his voice dramatically improved. Highly recommend!!

Ms. Robin comes highly recommended by my daughter and I. She made the lessons "fun" for an 9 year old! She also let my daughter select her own songs which I thought was a plus ... students are much more engaged if they are singing something they like to sing. Ms. Robin is an enthusiastic teacher and motivates her students to do their best. She also uses vocalization exercises to encourage a better "range" before singing an actual song. My daughter always looked forward to going to Ms. Robin's lesson and I stayed for each lesson and was quite pleased with my daughter's progress.

Daniel C.

Cleveland, OH

About Daniel

I am recent graduate of Music Composition and Theory from Antioch College, and I am a veteran of many bands, having performed in some of the largest venues around the country.

I favor a 'learning through experience' instruction style where my students can gain an in-depth understanding of music through the practice of their instrument. My students will quickly and simply learn the essentials of music theory, an understanding of what musical concepts are right for each situation and why, and the ability to compose and improvise musically while they are gaining the technical abilities and ski
lls to flawlessly perform on their instrument.

*** Lesson Details ***
My students will learn about scale, harmony, and its correct application. I will instruct them to quickly grasp the lay-out of their guitar and how it relates to the geometry of music -and thus they will be able to perform in a many styles of music within a very short period of time. This may sound difficult but it is incredibly simple in practice and can easily be learned by students of all ages! In as short of time as one or two lessons even beginning students will be playing beautiful music!

My curriculum is self-designed, but based on the experiential learning techniques, pioneered by Horace Mann, which he has been educated from. I have taught and studied music around the world, to discover the simple basics of music. Within a few short months each of my students has gained technical strength in playing their instrument and a confident understanding of the foundations of music. This teaches them the ability to write, perform, and improvise in any style of music.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Music studio: iMac for recording, cabinet Acoustic bass amp, Fender guitar amps, drum set, room for parents to sit in on lesson

*** Travel Equipment ***
I have a vehicle with room to transport equipment.

*** Specialties ***
rock, rhythm and blues, blues, folk, alternative

Patient and very talented at guitar;
he is very caring and passionate about music and you can tell in the way
he takes time to make sure you know what you're learning on a deeper level
than just tone and chords.

Really appreciate him as a person and mentor. :)

Instructor is very good and easy to work with. I seem to be making progress (slowly). However, I found an "app" called ultimate guitar chords that give fingering for all notes and lets you hear alternate (simpler) fingering to test how it would sound.Depending on how that comes out will may change my plans to continue with lessons after the first four.

George F. H.

Cleveland, OH

About George F.

I've been playing and singing music professionally for about 20 years. As a family man and father of two, I also I earn my living and support my family with music. I have a very student-driven teaching style, work with students of all ages, with focus on helping the student achieve his or her individual goals, small or large. I try to keep the lessons fun but focused at the same time.

I bring a balanced and personalized teaching style to my lessons, based on a well rounded education and wide range of real-world life experience. I have a B.A. in Liberal Arts and have performance experien
ce on many different fronts, from local rock cover bands to Top 40, from acoustic soloist to fronting a nationally touring Metallica tribute.

I come from a musical family - my father is also a pro musician. The biggest thing I've learned as a teacher of guitar, bass and voice is teaching the instrument has only made me a bigger student. The learning process never ends and that is one of the great things about music.

No matter where you are with the instrument - a beginner picking it up for the first time, or a seasoned pro of 10 years that just needs help "putting it together," I believe I can help you to get wherever you want to go.

Regarding availability - make sure to inquire if you don't see a time open that suits you - I am flexible. I perform 4-6 times a week and teach full time. Flex lessons tend to work very well.

Barbara D.

Twinsburg, OH

About Barbara

Learning to play a musical instrument is a skill that has been proven to improve brain activity. It is one of the only activities to engage both sides of the brain. Students who learn a musical instrument show improvement in their ability to pay attention and understand what is being taught in their academic classes. Most students retain this advantage even if they do not continue to play into adulthood.

Music is fun! It also can express your feelings in ways words cannot. I don't just teach you how to play your instrument, I will teach you to have a love for your music, and from that,
you will find that it is a lot of fun! After all, you do "play" your instrument!

In addition to the violin, viola and theory lessons described below, I am also available to coach ensembles. Any combination of string instruments you are working with, I will work with your group to improve your cohesiveness and your musical style.

My son has been taking lessons for several years with Barb. His skills and technique improved dramatically when he began and have continue to improve over the years. He received the "most improved" award in orchestra after his first year of lessons. He performs challenging music well at annual recitals and in Akron Youth Philharmonic with Barb's guidance. Barb is encouraging during lessons, yet always points out specific things that need attention for the next week. I highly recommend her.
