I am an active performer and teacher of bassoon, and am still an active learner on my instrument. Lessons with me are fun, engaging, and informative on this unique and often difficult instrument. I strive for my students to love the bassoon and enjoy working on their craft, whether a beginning band student or an aspiring professional. I earned my Masters of Music in Bassoon Performance at University of North Carolina, Greensboro and my Bachelors of Music in Bassoon Performance from Sacramento State University. I am a double reed (oboe and bassoon) specialist and have played both for over 16 years. My instrument of choice was bassoon in college and I continue to play for community orchestras. I tutor the double reed students at Hughson High School and Ross Middle School during the school year. Proper bassoon embouchure, technique and selection and adjustment of reeds is something most public school teachers overlook. Trust a specialist!

I teach oboe primarily through the tried and true Rubank method and the Ferling studies. Students will learn how to properly care for the instrument, how to read music, music theory, instrument technique, practice techniques, ear training (how to play by ear), reed adjustment, and repertoire. I also employ custom exercises specifically for oboe to help my students progress the fastest.

I'm engaged with the process of teaching bassoon students from the beginner level up to the advanced level. I make sure to make them aware of the importance of proper cleaning and care for their bassoons. I'm a patient teacher and know that everyone learns differently and at different speeds. I like to play duets with the students to make the lessons fun. I'm knowledgeable about bassoon solo pieces and orchestral repertoire and am able to help to help students prepare for solo contests. I emphasize the development of technique through slow scales and gradually expand the range. I'm able to add a little humor in the lessons to make the lessons fun. I view myself as a student in the process of teaching, too. I'm also engaged with teaching students proper embouchure, breath support and talk to them about reeds and am able to teach them reed making and adjustment as they become more advanced.
