The flute is an enchanting instrument, and it's so fun to learn! While it can be challenging, after just a few lessons with me, you can be playing some simple tunes. One of my dedicated students played a duet with me after just three lessons! I personally have been playing the flute for 17 years. I have performed in high school and college bands, and have been able to gain some teaching experience in the last few years. Our lessons will cover terminology, note reading, site reading, and technique, especially best embouchure practices.

About Rachel

Hello, my name is Rachel. I have been playing the flute for 17 years, ever since I was nine years old. I played in a small beginner band for about three years, during which I was also in school flute competitions. My flute teacher had a strong emphasis on rhythm and counting, for which I'm grateful.

Rachel is an excellent flutist. She was very patient with me, an adult beginner student. She was very encouraging and strove to make lessons musically satisfying by providing songs that were easy for me to play.

I have over 14 years of experience in teaching flute and piano to students of all ages and levels. My goal as a flute teacher is to give each student a very well rounded and thorough understanding of the instrument. Lessons will be tailored to each student and will include the following: knowledge of instrument care/maintenance, tone production, technique (scales, etudes, etc), musicality, music theory, and a variety of repertoire from classical to pop.

About Sheila

My interest in music began at the age of seven when I began private instruction in classical piano, and by the age of ten, I began playing the flute. I received my Bachelor of Music with a degree in Music Education from the University of Redlands, where I studied flute with Sara Andon. There, I perf

Classical approach to produce leaders in the orchestras and bands.
I've been teaching flute for 20 years and my students have gone on to the State level Band Auditions and won multiple times. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to make a decent sound, play scales, arpeggios and simple tunes, and as time goes on you'll be able to play popular tunes solo and with accompaniment of piano or band. I specialize in classical, jazz and klezmer style, typically use best published books, and have the renovated, quiet and spacious studio, music stands, audio equipment. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you!

Excellent instructor!
Shao F.
Our 12-year old son has been learning clarinet from Mr. Dimitry for about a year now and we highly recommend him to prospective students for his deep music knowledge, rich clarinet performance experience and above all, just being a great clarinet teacher.

In a year's time with Mr. Dimitry, our son's progress has been very impressive. After our son started lessons with Mr. Dimitry, it quickly became apparent that Mr. Dimitry is a very experienced teacher for young musicians. He engages our son effectively to keep him interested in music and clarinet while at the same time sets high expectations for him. Our son always looks forward to clarinet lessons and also is motivated to practice pieces at home.

Mr. Dimitry not only teaches sound clarinet skills, but also emphasizes the importance of playing music the right way, that is to tell stories and express feelings through music rather than to play music like a technician. Although it is difficult for a young musician to fully appreciate this concept, it does go a long way in preparing him to become a really good musician in the long run.

Mr. Dimitry is very polite, pleasant and professional. We recommend him without any reservation.
Julia J.
My 7 year old son has been taking recorder lessons from Dimitry for almost 1 year now. Dimitry is very patient, encouraging, and enganging - considering that my son is on the younger side. Dimitry provides music instruction that is appropriate age and level wise, so my son feels accomplished and challenged at the same time.
We plan to continue with Dimitry and hopefully advance to the clarinet once his fingers can cover the clarinet holes and he has learned more music theory. My son looks forward to his music lessons. We are very pleased with his musical instruction.

Very informed as a teacher, willing to adapt her style to your needs. Able to teach warm-ups, scales, technique, tone and a wide array of repertoire. She would be great for students of all levels. "Michelle has proven herself to be knowledgeable and helpful in facilitating my return to flute playing after a hiatus of a few years. As an individual having already completed a bachelors and masters degree in flute performance I was looking for someone nearby with the skill, education, and performance experience to help whip me back into shape. Michelle has been able to help me identify and strategize realistic performance goals that take into consideration both my extensive background and my need to re-enter music performance in a low-key way that balances my desire to use music as a creative outlet with having limited time as a parent and professional in a field outside of music. Michelle has given constructive feedback and guidance in using standard flute literature, etudes, and other technical exercises to facilitate me in regaining proper technique and tone production. It has also been a joy to play duets with Michelle and have the chance to practice intonation, musicality, and playing with a high quality musician, as music is meant to be played and shared with others. Having the opportunity to build musicianship in this way with an individual of her caliber has proven beneficial."

"Talented teachers are rare. Like a great coach i sports... the coach doesn’t need to be the top athlete in his field to know how to teach each team member to hone their best abilities, he just has to know and see how to teach you how to get there. Being an outstanding teacher is a great talent all in itself... and that is Jesse. He has that quality and ability to lead, focus and take you where you want to go."
