the mid-70s. I became an assistant to composer and author of "The Lydian Chromatic Concept of Tonal Organization" copyrighted by George Russell. I also leaned music theory traditionally. Students can learn all definable chord types, intervals and rhythms etc. I am a composer, guitarist and percussionist, who has the ability to share this information with my students !

I have had extensive jazz a rock studies from attending The Guitar Institute of Technology in Hollywood, to becoming George Russell's teaching assistant at The New England Conservatory of Music in Boston before he retired. I learned from a true master of jazz and contemporary music regarding composition, improvisation, theory and teaching students.

Gregg was my musical instructor during the early 1980ties. What I learned in a few lessons with him was more that I could have expected. I was primarily focused on percussion, of which his vast knowledge was highly dynamic. I learned about poly-rhythms, Indian ti-hies, and complex time signatures. He had available much reference material that he provided me. And over the years his musical insights have not only supplemented my inquiries, but made me a better musician and person. I hope you have a chance to study with Gregg, as you will be introduced to a new and better way of musicianship!

My boys, ages 7 & 5, started piano lessons with Aaron a year ago. He has taught them technique & theory all while using songs they boys love. There are days that the boys are not the most cooperative. Aaron is amazingly patient and persistent in getting the boys to do their lessons. I really appreciate and have learned from this patience when it comes to the nightly practicing. I am pleased that the boys have been working with a male teacher and I think it really helps them relate to the music and the lessons. If you are looking for a patient yet knowledgeable piano teacher, I would definitely recommend Aaron.

I am Vasiliy M, Boston University School of Music Alumnus (DMA in Composition). We dwell in Boston since Fall 2002; before that time , we lived in New York, where I studied Composition at Mannes College, The New School For Music. I received both BM, and MM degrees from Mannes in 1999, and 2001, respectively. Before an arrival to US, in 1994, I studied Jazz Performance, Electric Bass Major, and Classical Composition, at Moldova State Conservatory, from 1988 to 1993, respectively.
I was raised in the family, where music is an essential part of its daily life; my father, Grigoriy, before his retirement, was a military band trombone player, and, quite naturally, I was exposed to music, and encouraged by my parents to learn playing an instrument of my choice, from my early childhood.
My mother, Anisia Kondrat'ievna,
possesses both beautiful vocal abilities and perfect pitch , although she has never had a chance to develop her natural gifts any further. But I have heard my mother singing, and these moments remain one of the most touching and impressive musical experiences, that I have ever received, and remember to this very day.
Only after a considerable life experiences, abound of trials and mistakes, at the age of twenty five, I have come to a clear realization, that music remains my greatest passion, and that I would have to become a professional musician. With help and support of friends and colleagues, I have entered Community College in Soroki city, Moldova Republic, where I have studied Choral Conducting for Amateurs. I have graduated from school in May of 1988, having written a few instrumental and vocal compositions of my own, and, quite unexpectedly for myself, was invited, that summer, to visit Moldova State Conservatory, with the prospect of audition for the Composition Major. After the meeting with the Chair of the Department, I was offered an opportunity to be accepted to the Master Degree Program in Composition, provided I will have completed two years of preliminary studies of Music Theory, Music Harmony/Voice Leading, and many other related disciplines.
Why do I bring all of these facts to this Essay? I know for the fact now, that I was not ready for what was awaiting ahead of me, back then. There was no way, that I could cope with the demands of Composition Program curriculum. But I have had love for music, that my parents have implemented in me throughout my childhood; I have had natural abilities, that Heavens supplied me with: and I have had a chance to make my dream a reality, providing I do everything that I will have to, during the following years of struggles and study.
The decision was made, and my studies have begun. I have come through every mistake, defeat, and mind-barriers imaginable, and if it would not be a continuous stream of professional help and support, that I have received from my numerous teachers, mentors, and professors, along the years of study, my goals could never be attained to any modest, but real degree.
Whenever I have a chance to teach, tutor, or assist other musicians with their study, my past experience always reminds me, that any person may experience some difficulties of various nature with the learning material, from time to time, and that those difficulties should be addressed by student's teacher with the highly individual approach, however time-and effort-consuming it may be. Patience and respect, in regard to the students, have become as important aspects of teaching to me, as those of discipline and professionalism.
My studies have come to an end; I see now, that the world of music is an endless entity, for it has no boundaries, and we all have to maintain our further progress, in order to move to our chosen destinations, and to help others with their own advancements.

I graduated from SUNY Purchase with a BA in Studio Composition in 2007, and from Hebrew College with a Masters' Degree in Jewish Education in June, 2016. I have been working in after-school, Hebrew school, camp, and other supplementary educational settings for the past ten years. Most of my students are learning piano, and I also have a few Hebrew students. My Hebrew students are either studying for their bnei mitzvah, maintaining their conversational Hebrew, or learning for the purpose of competence of services or Torah study. My piano students have ranged from age 4 to young children learning Classical pieces to teens learning to play the songs they like to adults working on their songwriting and improvisation. My strengths are improvisation, music theory and ear training, accompaniment of popular songs - rock, theater, pop, folk, etc.

My first lesson was everything I hoped for from start to finish. I haven't played piano for many years & wanted to begin by using a keyboard as a learning tool--to recapture dexterity and reading ability. I emerged with a better grasp of basics & even a little music theory--exactly as I had requested. Itai is a wonderfully patient teacher & I am looking forward to next week.

Ricky is an amazingly creative and inspiring teacher.

Ricky has been teaching my daughter for last 5 years. My daughter is now 15 years old. She already played piano for a couple of years before Ricky started working with her and at that time was getting disinterested. We were looking for someone who would bring that interest and spark back into her playing piano. I was looking for a special teacher who can teach basics of improvisation and accompaniment to a young child. After talking with several potential teachers, we decided to work with Ricky.

Ricky has proven to be an amazing teacher for my daughter. He is patient, creative and able to adjust to the child’s needs. I was amazed when couple of months after my daughter started working with him; she was already improvising and playing really cool pieces of music. That kind of teaching has inspired my daughter to continue playing piano for the last 5 years. She has accompanied two of her friends singing at her school talent shows and graduation ceremony with encouragement and inspiration Ricky has provided her all along.

Ricky frequently encourages my daughter to pick her own songs she would like to work on. Ricky has a strong knowledge of music theory and has incorporated that in his lessons. I love that my daughter is learning music theory, improvisation, accompaniment and reading music all with the same teacher. It is not easy to find a teacher who is so creative to include all of these in his teaching method. I would highly recommend Ricky as a piano teacher for any age.

I received a Bachelor's in Music Education and Performance from Drake University in Flute and Piano. Currently pursuing a Master's in Music Therapy.

At Drake, I received a musical scholarship covering 80% of my tuition costs.
I was also honored to sit as Principal Flute in both the Drake Symphony Orchestra and the Drake Wind Symphony, the top performing groups at the University.

I started to play the flute and piano in second grade, and
my love and passion for music have only grown and matured since then.

My first piano lesson turned out to be so much more than I could have ever expected. My teacher, Kristin is so engaged in the lesson and so very well prepared. Dorian has lived and loved his musical experiences from a very early age. Starting on piano, he soon moved to trumpet. With many strong influencing teachers along his path, he has developed into the trumpet performer and educator of music that he aspired to.

After completion of highschool, Dorian received his associates degree from Onondaga Community College and earned two BM degree's from Rowan University in Music Education and in K-6 education.

After Anastasia’s Carnegie Hall Debut in 2006, the New York Concert Review wrote: "For a critic, hearing a new pianist with a truly warm, luscious tone is like breathing in the scent of jasmine blooming - a pleasure to be recalled again and again - and so I'm happy to report that from the first note she touched at her Weill Hall recital, Anastasia S. was a genuine pleasure to listen to. Every piece, every measure, every note - no matter how complex the texture, no matter how many strands of melody and accompaniment - was wrapped in a halo of golden tone..."

Born in Kiev, Ukraine, Anastasia S. gave her first solo recital at the age of eleven. Ms. S. is a graduate of the Hochschule für Musik Würzburg, Germany, and holds a Master’s and a Doctorate degrees from The Hartt School at the University of Hartford.

In 2003 Anastasia received
First Prize in the 14th International Piano Competition for Young Pianists in Rome, Italy, and was awarded a Special Prize. In year 2006 Ms. S. won the Puigcerda International Piano Competition in Spain. In the same year she recorded the complete works for piano and orchestra by Balakirev with the Russian Philharmonic Orchestra for NAXOS records. Anastasia’s recent engagements included a performance at the Bolshoi Hall of Moscow Conservatory as well as solo appearances with orchestras in the United States and Germany featuring concerti by Prokofieff, Mozart, Grieg, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, and Stravinsky. In 2014 her new CD "Music of Russian-Jewish composers for oboe and piano" was released. Currently, Anastasia is working on her two new solo CD's for Centaur Records.

As an adult beginner, I chose Anastasia for more personalized instruction, especially in technique, after learning the basics through community center group lessons. I have not continued only because another equally well-qualified instructor who lives close by, within walking distance, has become available. I am very pleased with the lessons and pointers that I have received. Anastasia is professional, encouraging, and friendly. An especially helpful part of her instruction is the set of comments and suggestions that she writes down to guide practice between lessons. If the neighbor instructor does not work out, I’ll be back.

Nate Sabat is a bassist, vocalist, songwriter, and Berklee College of Music graduate currently based in Boston, MA. Nate has a very good ear, and is quickly able to identify problems, and thoroughly explain how to fix them. Whether a technique thing, or subtle nuances in timing, or tone, Nate always finds the clear path to expressing the goal, and how to get there.
I'd recommend Nate to anyone seeking to improve their playing. The rest is practice, practice, practice.

BIO:
Born in Minneapolis, MN, Victor Mooney began playing cello at the age of 7. While in Minneapolis he studied with Tom Austin, former member of the Minnesota Opera. Victor completed a Bachelor of Music Performance degree from Iowa State University, where he studied with George Work. Upon graduation he was awarded the Outstanding Senior in Music award, the highest honor the Music Department at Iowa State gives. While in undergrad he also received a scholarship for excellence in performance. Starting in the fall of 2015, Victor will be pursuing a Master's of Music in Cello Performance from The Boston Conservatory, where he will be studying with Andrew Mark. He has participated in master classes with Anthony Ross, Tanya Remenikova, Narek Hakhnazaryan, Hong Wang, Bruce Uchimura, and Joshua Koestenbaum. Since 2013 he has played with the Des Moines Symphony Orchestra. While at Iowa State University he had the opportunity to sit Principle Cello in both the Iowa State University Symphony Orchestra and the Iowa State University Chamber Orchestra.  He has been teaching privately in the Des Moines area since 2012 and is looking forward to building a studio in Boston. Outside of music, Victor enjoys reading, watching hockey and soccer, running, and visiting with family and friends in Minnesota.

Very helpful and informative. Gives tips and exercises to help with good posture and correct form. Flexible with time and able to send help during the week if needed. Works at a good pace and always checks for understanding. Reviews your form while playing to make sure everything is in the correct place and moving correctly. Good first lesson. Excited for the rest to come xD

I can teach both classical, and contemporary harmony. I have studied contemporary harmony extensively. We will mainly focus on analysis of jazz and other contemporary music, and use the techniques learned in this analysis to compost original music.

In classical harmony we will analyze all forms of classical music, and practice composting within these guidelines.

About Benjamin
Benjamin is a musician in the Boston area. He has been studying music since the age of 3. His background includes Violin, Cello, Percussion, Drum Set, Voice, Electric Bass, and Upright Bass. He is currently a student at Berklee College of Music, majoring in Upright Bass Performance. He has studied with Dave Zinno, John Lockwood, Bruce Gertz, and Susan Hagen. He has performed with John Oates, New York Voices, and Kevin Mahogany.

Benjamin has been teaching privately for 4 years. In that time he has gotten students accepted into various competitions. Benjamin is a strong believer in fundamentals, and technique, but utilizes real musical examples to teach such aspects of music.

Great instructor. Focuses on the basics and provides a lot of encouragement which helps. Also, allows student to decide what they'd like to learn and allows you to select the type of music you are most interested in.

Benjamin is great. He has the task of teaching a 46 year old longtime electric bass player and a 12 year old electric bass player (father/daughter). He is teaching us both the fundamentals of the upright bass, which is such a different instrument. We look forward to continued lessons with Benjamin.
