I strive to treat each student equally no matter how advance the student are. My job as a teacher is to provide students a tool in life. Students will learn the way life works through the art of music. Should the students decide to pursue music or not in the future, I only hope that students will apply what they've learned in music to their everyday problem solving.

About Johnny

Johnny received his Bachelors of Music at the University of Alabama, under the tutelage of Carlton McCreery, and a Masters of Music at The Boston Conservatory with Andrew Mark. Johnny made his debut performance in 2011, performing Dvorak's Cello Concerto with Albuquerque Youth Symphony under the di

Johnny is experienced in teaching cello. His lessons are always passionate, musical, and informative. There are several aspects of his lessons that I'd like to share.

1. Full of Content: He delivers enough details of a new technique with simplification for an easy understanding.
2. Learning Curve: By breaking down and reorganizing the knowledge, he teaches new concepts step by step, from approachable actions to efficient actions.
3. Customization: He helps you find out a suitable solution to grow on the techniques based on your own physical and cognitive characteristics.
4. Experimentation: The correct ways he suggests you do is demonstrated by experimenting with different ways for comparison, which you would not only know what to do but know the reason behind it.

Cello is a beautiful yet complicated instrument. To enjoy it, a great mentorship is necessary and truly valued.

I teach beginners from scratch through cellists at the top of the field. I've trained more than 60 cellists, including children as small as three and a half years old, autistic children, beginning adolescents, cello "converts" from other instruments, blind students, adult beginners, conservatory-bound teens, and professional symphony players.
All the time I hear "I can't start, I'm too old", "I am not musically inclined", or "I am not talented"- all from people that never held an instrument in their lives. That is self-deprecating talk, and it is absolutely false. Everything a performer does was learned at some point. Absolutely everything. Any person has the potential to learn how to play incredibly well. It does not take a "gift" or "talent". It takes the initiative to try.

About Anna

I have a passion for training cellists to a high level of musicianship. I have mentored cellists from the first lesson through professional symphony auditions. I am certified with the Suzuki Association of the Americas and know the Suzuki Method intimately through growing up with the method myself

Anna is an extremely talented cellist. She plays with virtuosic technique, and she has great musical instincts. She has experience working with students from many backgrounds. She is patient, flexible, and energetic, and though I know her in a professional context, from what I've heard these traits certainly carry over into her teaching.

Wonderful teacher! She explains techniques in a way that is readily understood. I had previously struggled with certain learning curves where I'd hit a wall, and she helped me through them. She teaches with joy and passion!

Cello:
A bowed or plucked string instrument with four strings tuned in perfect fifths. The strings from low to high are generally tuned to C2, G2, D3 and A3, an octave lower than the viola. It is a member of the violin family of musical instruments, which also includes the violin and viola and the double bass. The cello is used as a solo musical instrument, as well as in chamber music ensembles (e.g., string quartet), string orchestras, as a member of the string section of symphony orchestras, and some types of rock bands. It is the second-largest and second lowest (in pitch) bowed string instrument in the modern symphony orchestra, the double bass being the largest and having the lowest (deepest) pitch. My lessons always start out with the basics! We start out by learning notes by plucking the strings and then the bow is soon incorporated. The goal is to eventually learn all the notes on the fretboard and also learning how to read and play chords. As the student progresses ...

Karen was not prepared for the lesson. She spent 15 minutes trying to send me photos from a beginner Tabla book available on Amazon. She did not own a set of Tabla drums. She ensured me she could teach anything, but could not pronounce the words used for proper Tabla technique, knew no history and could not even teach me to tune. She literally was reading out of the book figuring it out along the way. I lost a lot of trust from this and asked for a full refund for future lessons.

Karen is an incredibly skillful teacher. She is very passionate about music and it easy to be comfortable with her. She shares her training and knowledge very clearly. The vocal exercises seem very unique and holistic for body and voice health. She is very encouraging, caring, and soul-uplifting. I feel like I have a new connection with my voice and all that is connected to using it... as an instrument and the journey is only just starting. 45 minutes went by so fast. I am looking forward to my next lessons.

Hi! My name's Monica, and I'm a professional cellist and cello teacher, and I also manage the Boston Cello Ensemble. In 2015, I graduated from Boston University with a bachelor's degree in music (cello) performance, summa cum laude. My primary cello professor at BU was Marc Johnson of the Vermeer Quartet, and I have also studied or attended masterclasses with members of the Boston Symphony, LA Phil, and National Symphony Orchestra. I've also attended well-known music festivals such as the Aspen Music Festival and School where I studied with Professor Aaron of the Juilliard School.

As a performer, I enjoy playing classical and non-classical music. I've performed as a substitute cellist in the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra, but I've also performed in a Boston-based folk/Americana band.

Over the years, I've taught private cello lessons independently and through a music school. I've taught children and adults, and I believe that anyone at any age can learn to play the cello. I aim to ...

Jessica is a passionate musician who is as equally skilled at teaching her craft to children as she is knowledgeable about Cello. She has been detail oriented, but she has also been exceptionally patient and kind. I have been thrilled with Jessica's offering of in-home lessons. With 4 children, I already do too much chauffeuring for school and sports activities, which would have made music lessons for my youngest very difficult. My 10yo has literally stated that she "loves" Jessica and that "she's so sweet." We have only seen Jessica twice so far, but we hope to continue our lessons with her.

For the past 5 years I have been teaching cello to beginner and intermediate students of all ages. I started playing when I was 15 years old, so my experience learning the fundamentals of playing cello are still fresh in my mind. This gives me an edge in my teaching when introducing the instrument to my students. I am a member of the Lone Star Philharmonic Orchestra and hold a Bachelor of Arts in Cello from Texas State University. I can help you learn not only how to play the cello, but can ensure that you have a strong handle of the basic fundamentals, note reading, and music theory as well!

About Gabriel

Hello! I'm Gabriel and I began to play the cello when I was 15 years old after watching a metal band perform with only cellos and no guitars. Gabriel is one of the best instructors ever. He found really interesting music for my daughters to play. He also gave them history about different composers and other background info. He taught them a lot of good techniques to help them play better. Overall, he is really inspiring and my daughters advanced a lot. He always went above and beyond. I can't recommend him enough. My daughters loved having him as their violin teacher as he helped them grow fond of music while playing their violins.

"It's been so fun taking lessons from Jessica. She is interested in finding out the student's learning method and tailors the lessons accordingly. I'm on week 3 and I'm enjoying myself so much! I was a little nervous about taking lessons through Skype, but she's been able to teach me almost seamlessly, of course there's some difficulties because she can't get a 360 view of how I'm playing, but that's something we can accommodate to."

Is Cello Hard to Learn? Read THIS Before Taking Lessons

Many beginning musicians wonder, “Is cello hard to learn?” The process of learning the cello is not difficult, but it’s important to keep in mind that the cello is not an instrument of instant gratification. It does require focused, daily practice time and a good teacher to guide you along the way. How far you progress with cello is a direct result of the amount of quality time you put into practicing the instrument. Even someone who puts in just 30 minutes a day will notice a signi …
