About Arlys
Are you a singer or speaker who would like a more powerful, authentic voice? My focus is to assist you in finding an easier way to sustain your best posture, breath support, resonance and pitch control by bringing awareness to existing vocal habits while providing a hands-on experience adjusting those habits. My mission is to help you find your most relaxed & elongated posture, breath support, full resonance and best pitch control.

My specialty as a professional voice teacher is Contemporary Commercial Music [CCM] which encompasses genres & sub-genres from Pop, Country, Hip/Hop, Folk, Rock, R&B, Soul, Gospel, EDM [electronic dance music], etc.

I grew up singing freely and naturally until I destroyed my voice thru improper, frequent overuse. I believed my career was over, but it was just starting. Private lessons with vocal professio
nals coupled with academic studies rebuilt my perception of how I was generating sound and their training gave me back MY VOICE, for which I am forever grateful. I combine knowledge from these studies and my own vocal exploration to re-build my voice in exercises that I share with students of voice.

I CAN HELP YOU REACH YOUR GOALS: My cross-training in dance, yoga, Tai Chi, commercial & improvisational acting provides a well-rounded platform from which to deliver information, guide vocal explorers and also help develop talent.

EXPERIENCE:
* 20 years teaching experience
* 12 years living & working in Los Angeles
* A lifetime of performing experience
* 12 years personal private vocal studies master teachers of bel canto & contemporary singing techniques.

LIFE SKILLS: No matter the subject, my focus is also teach skills that can be extrapolated into any area of your life. Life Skills focuses on eradicating negative self-talk and expanding communication skills that help develop confidence, enhancing daily life.

Between performing and my own artistic studies, I have been taking the occasional private voice student since 1997, mostly via referrals from friends and other students. While living in California, one of my voice teachers requested me as her regular substitute at Culver City and Santa Monica Music Schools from 2008-2012, which I felt deeply honored. She said she trusted me with their voices, which encouraged me into full-time voice teaching practice. In June 2012, I returned to Minneapolis and began teaching in my home studio through music services like Take Lessons. Past projects include producing a vocal showcase at The Ritz Theater, musical direction & choreography for a school's 2016 production of the Wizard of Oz; assisting students to prepare for local & national auditions like La Banda, The Voice & American Idol; prepping singers for studio recordings and congratulating a new student who's stepped out of the chorus to land her first lead role!

I am forever grateful to all of my teachers, past and present, for their valuable gifts of knowledge, skill, grace and compassion.

ENJOY LIFE MORE! Singing & dancing improves our quality of life.

Started my online lesson with Arlys today after attending the group lessons. Arlys certainly demonstrate that she has the knowledge & experience. More important she is able to teach & correct the fundamentals and principles clearly. Looking forward to increase the correct engagement of my diaphragm, singing range and volume without hurting my vocal cords & throat! :) Thanks for your jokes and passion!

10 years teaching experience in various style of music(Classical, Pop, Rock, Broadway). Accompanied for students' auditions.
Specializing in sight singing in fixed do style.

About Asuka
I started my musical training as a pianist at YAMAHA institute at age 4 in Japan. I was selected to enter perfect pitch class. It was designated for students who have perfect pitch and potentials to be professional musicians.

I enjoyed playing piano and electric piano and won the 1st prize at Kitakantou Electric Piano Competition hosted by YAMAHA institute. Because of the intensive training, I have been accompanying my students' recitals and performance exams.

As much as I enjoyed playing piano, I discovered that I also love singing, so I started to take singing lessons and majored in vocal performance during my college days.

Since I have graduated, I have been performing opera professionally. My career highlights include roles as Cio-cio san(Madame Butterfly) with Snob Opera, Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Fairy(Falstaff) with Sir B
ryn Terfel with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Liverpool, England, Dorinda(Orlando) with Cantanti Project, Pamina (Die Zauberflöte) with Opera Manhattan Studio, Frasquita (Carmen) with One World Symphony, Zerlina (Don Giovanni) and Clorinda (La Cenerentola) with Capitol Heights Opera, Alice (Le comte Ory) with West Side Opera Society, Adele (Die Fledermaus), Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro), and Myrrhine (Lysistrata) with Opera Avanti, Gilda (Rigoletto) with Académie Internationale d'Eté de Nice, and The First Spirit (Die Zauberflöte) with the Opera Company of Brooklyn.

My international credits include performances under the direction of Conductor Laurent Pillot at the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Liverpool, England;the Académie Internationale d'Eté de Nice, France; the Daniel Ferro Vocal Program in Chianti,Italy; the International Vocal Arts Institute in Tel Aviv, Israel where I was selected to sing for the Japanese Ambassador.

I made appearances as a soloist at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Symphony Space, Town Hall, and MOMA museum in New York City and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Hall.

As a versatile singer, I was presented as an aspiring opera singer on the website of Maybelline New York. Her voice was featured in short films for the Japanese technology company NEC. I appeared as a soprano soloist for the opera, Jazz and theater collaboration of "TAKE ABITE" by David Antonio Cruz. I also sings Broadway songs and continues her musical theater studies. She is an active recitalist and also performs Oratorio works.

I was also a finalist at the Opera Idol Competition at Lincoln Center in New York City, The Hariclea Darclée Voice Competition in Romania and the Mario Lanza and Elaine Malbin Vocal Competition in New York City. Ms. Uchida was selected as a vocal scholarship recipient at Savannah music festival.

My upcoming engagement includes singing the role of Gilda in Rigoletto and Oscar in Un ballo in maschera in 2018 in New York City.

Besides being an opera singer, I have been teaching piano and voice for 11 years. I would like to share my skills and experience with you. Since I perform often, I can coach you how to perform on stage in addition to building solid technique and languages. Also, I have taught various kinds of music, such as Rock, Broadway musicals, Pop music, so we can work on all kind of music.

I look forward to teaching you soon!

My students can expect to improve their skills and start to enjoy music more as we work together.
I believe that learning music is fun and enjoyable. However you also need to be serious and focused.
I can demonstrate various and specific techniques, phrasing, and interpretation and will always coach on how to develop your skills. However, I feel it is important for students to think critically on their own and take the first try at solving a problem themselves. I cannot emphasize enough that primarily it is you who find the ways to improve. Leaning music is a collaboration between teachers and students. I hope that through my lessons, students will become more self-sufficient and confident as musicians.
Let me help you become a better musician.

I just signed up with Asuka a few weeks ago while she was traveling internationally for her performance. Because she was away, we did online lessons. At first I was skeptical because of the time difference and the quality etc. but she has very much experience not only teaching, but with online lessons. My son has an international singing competition coming up and Asuka is not only preparing him for the competition, but also for what expect from judges and how to mentally perceive the performance. Although she travels and maintains her successful career, she is able to put everyone ounce of her expertise into helping my son from where ever she is. When she came back to NYC she also worked personally with him as well. She is the best teacher and vocal coach we have had to date.

About Rachel
Mezzo-soprano Rachel A. has captured audiences throughout the United States with her rich and warm timbre, beautiful blend, and dynamic stage presence. A native of Stockton, California, Rachel was born into a musical family and quickly developed an affinity for the performing arts. She first fell in love with classical music as an oboist and gradually found her niche as a singer through her passion for languages, literature, and theater. In the fall of 2012, she relocated to Connecticut where she continues to be an active performer of opera, oratorio, art song, crossover, and new music.

Most recently, she was seen as the mezzo-soprano soloist in Capella Cantorum Masterwork Chorus and the Old Lyme Congregational Church Choir's performances of Handel's Messiah, the mezzo soloisit in Vivaldi's Gloria and Magnificat with the Stamford Chora
le, with Hartford Opera Theater as Elise in Dawn Sonntag's Verlorene Heimat, Pythia in Nkeiru Okeye’s We’ve Got Our Eye on You, and as Miss Paige in Dan Shore’s An Embarrassing Position which was nominated for Best Featured Ensemble in a Musical through the 2015 Broadway World Connecticut Awards. She has also performed with Opera Theater of Connecticut, Connecticut Lyric Opera, Madison Lyric Stage, Greater Worcester Opera, Revolution Opera Alliance, the Simsbury Light Opera Company, and the Greater Meriden Concert Chorale.

Prior to moving to Connecticut, Rachel lived in St. Louis, Missouri, where she frequently performed with the St. Louis Symphony as a member of the St. Louis Symphony Chorus. She has also performed with Winter Opera St. Louis, Union Avenue Opera, and the Southern Illinois Music Festival. In 2012, Ms. Abrams had the opportunity to be a sponsored young artist with Winter Opera St. Louis where she performed the role of Echo in Ariadne auf Naxos, covered Musetta in La Bohème, and performed in the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical review: A Grand Night for Singing. Ms. Abrams has also performed with Opera Fort Collins, Loveland Opera Theater, Victorian Lyric Opera, and Opera Classica Europa in Bad Schwalbach, Germany as an apprentice artist. Additional operatic credits include Zweite Dame in Die Zauberflöte, Giannetta in L’Elisir d’Amore and Miss Pinkerton in The Old Maid and the Theif.

A passionate performer of Jewish music, Ms. Abrams was featured as a soloist in Martin Bresnick’s puppet opera, Der Signál, with the Hartford Independent Chamber Orchestra during the 10th Annual Celebration of Jewish Arts and Culture at Charter Oak Cultural Center in October of 2014. As an active performer of art song, Ms. Abrams has collaborated with various musicians throughout the New England region to create diverse and accessible art song recitals. In April of 2015, Ms. Abrams and pianist Michael Korman presented a recital featuring the works of Schönberg, Ruth Schönthal, Previn, and Weill with the Maurice Greenberg Center for Jewish Studies at the University of Hartford.

Since the winter of 2016, Rachel has been an active performer with Lollipop Opera Outreach. This touring opera company brings the joy of opera to thousands of school children throughout New England. This season, she will perform the roles of the Mother/Witch in Hansel and Gretel, Babe in The Three Pigs – A Pig Tale, and participate in the premiere of a new interactive “culinary” opera adventure: A Fairytale Kitchen.

In addition to being a passionate performer and collaborator, Rachel is a private music educator dedicated to the success of her students. Ms. A maintains a private studio of voice students out of her home in West Hartford, Connecticut. In addition to her private teaching studio, she is the alto section leader at St. James Episcopal Church in Farmington. She has also taught at Farmington Valley Academy Montessori in Avon, Arts Place in Cheshire and Summit Studios in Manchester.

As a voice teacher, Ms. A provides her students with a holistic, healthy, and age appropriate technique based on her studies of vocal pedagogy, years of lessons from master teachers, and her personal experiences as a performer. Through personalized vocal exercises and repertoire assignments, students will learn how to achieve a proper vocal onset, management of air pressure, increase vocal stamina, and maximize vocal freedom through balanced resonance. While Ms. Abrams teaches "classical" technique, her students apply her pedagogy to all styles of singing including, but certainly not limited to: musical theater, jazz, gospel, barber shop, and even rock!

Before opening her own private studio in Connecticut, Ms. Abrams lived in St. Louis, Missouri where she taught throughout the region. While in Missouri, she served as an Adjunct Voice Instructor/Lecture Professor at East Central College and a Private Voice and Music Instructor at St. John's School of the Arts.

In addition to her teaching experience in the Missouri area, Rachel was a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Northern Colorado, where she was an assistant instructor for Music Survey and Music and World Cultures classes.

Ms. A holds a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Northern Colorado and a Bachelor of Music degree from San José State University. She lives in West Hartford with her husband Ben and their anti-social diva cat, Bonnie. She is currently accepting new students!

*** Specialties ***
I teach classical technique, specifically focusing on proper resonance and breath control. This method can be highly useful to broadway, jazz, popular or any other style of singing.

Singing is an expressive act! It's a creative outlet as well. For the individual who wants to casually learn the process, I have many great forms of instruction to accommodate this learning style. Singing is also a great way to build self-confidence and growth in teenagers as they navigate through the growth process. I'd love to answer any questions you might have for this process.

About Steve
I am a Musical Director who has scored original music for many motion pictures and television and was musical arranger for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. I've scored and arranged original music for several television shows including, Desperate Housewives, MTV's Making the Band, It's Showtime at the Apollo and numerous series on PBS, A & E and Disney, . I have also served as on-set vocal and piano coach for many Disney TV series.

As a piano instructor, I believe in giving every student a foundation in classical music.. I enjoy teaching and playing Jazz and pop as well.

I've worked with students ages 5-90. I simply love the teaching process and respect every student's journey. Mixing structure and discipline with a positive teaching style, I work to inspire students to be their best within a well structured curriculum that is fu
n and engaging.

Music must be fun...always!

*** Lesson Details ***
My students see progress. I don't believe in cookie-cutter instruction. I take the time to learn a students individual comprehension of the musical language and their learning style. I also build a practice schedule that is realistic and creates growth. Music instruction should not feel like a burden, but should be joyful. It's a process I have respected. Whether you are 90 or 9, you can learn music, love music and feel its presence by playing an instrument or singing. My job is to communicate that joy and show you how you can do it for yourself.

Learning to master a musical instrument is a two way commitment and I will always give you my full effort as I love the results.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have a digital upright piano for piano and vocal instruction.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will provide the lesson material and help students with purchasing the right method books.

*** Specialties ***
For beginning Piano-Intermediate, I have embraced the James Bastien series, as I believe it paces the young student and builds a foundation on a musical and pedagogical level.
Vocally, I follow a classical technique, but use that foundation as a basis to meet the goals of the singer for the style they want to achieve.

This session takes a unique approach to traditional voice lessons. We start by listening, breathing and building up our vocal strength, and end in harmony. Please be advised : This class will bring lots of laughter and smiles into your students' life!

About Rachel
I started my musical path in a Ballet Studio. I fell in love with the crackle of the vinyl record playing as I learned to listen and dance with the rhythm.

I started playing the guitar when I was in elementary and took classical lessons until I was a teenager.I really enjoy the art of practice and the journey of patience. The process of learning has helped me carve out and cultivate my style of music. It's opened up a lot of doors for me in my life. I've had the honor to play with a lot of great performers and have been lucky enough to tour the U.S. and Canada with festivals and showcases such as Vans Warped Tour, South By Southwest and the Halifax Pop Explosion.I've been the opening act for Carolyn Wonderland, Maria Taylor, Tsunami Bomb, Tilly and the Wall, Basia Bulat, Rise Against, Strike Anywhere. Anathallo, Cursive, Milton Hopki
ns, and Pony Up.

When I have free time I volunteer with the Houston Chapter of Girls Rock Camp to help teach girls empowerment through songwriting and music.

*** Lesson Details ***
I began teaching as an afterschool job when I was 16. I was homeschooled, so I feel that the experience taught me that everyone learns differently and that there is not just one standardized method to playing music.

My teaching style varies with each student, but the one constant is my ability to make each and every client I encounter completely fall in LOVE with music. It's my super power.

Lesson plans are tailored for your specific needs and to help you achieve your musical goals and aspirations at your desired pace. I enjoy my students and making music with them.

Here is an overview of the lessons that I provide.

Guitar:
Finger Picking, Song Writing, Rhythm, Lead, Scales,Modes & Ear Training.

Songwriting and composition: Learn techniques, how to brain storm and plot your musical story line. This class pairs great with vocal lessons or guitar lessons.

Bass:

Ukulele :

As a performer myself, I know how challenging it can be to get out of your head, stop thinking and let loose. I am here to encourage following your instincts and developing your own fully energized, open and supported sound. We will explore topics like body alignment, tension, breath coordination, and registration to expand your versatility and stamina as a singer.

I will help you develop a strong foundation in these components so that they become second nature. That being said, I am here to accentuate your artistic freedom and unique voice by taking your focus off solely on your technical advancement. I train artists to become independent and so grounded in their technique that they are free to express themselves and trust their process.

In our lessons, it is important that we strike a good balance between technical and artistic learning for each lesson. I am here to encourage following your instincts and developing your own strategy to improve and become self-sufficient as an ...

About Zach
As a teaching artist, my goal is to reinforce a healthy structure to your voice while expanding your capacities as an actor and performer by letting the complete singing actor emerge. I wish for my work in the studio to be accessible even when you are practicing on your own. I hope to empower each student to become self-sufficient on a personal level, understanding that each individual grows from different methods to find that perfect balance of artistic and technical instruction.

I am fresh off of the Celebrity Summit Cruise Ship performing as a lead vocalist in their production shows. Previously I have performed in the Anything Goes National Tour as the quartet tenor and a primary dancer. Before this, I had appeared in shows at Pittsburgh's prestigious theatre, The Pittsburgh CLO, most recently performing in their production of The
Wedding Singer and previously as The Production Tenor in Singin’ in the Rain and Garvin in Footloose. Other theatre credits include multiple shows at Music Theatre of Wichita, West Virginia Public Theatre and The Connecticut Repertory Theatre, all of which have taught me what it takes to become a successful musical theatre performer in this competitive era.

I love teaching all students, but in particular high school students who are aspiring to attend college as a musical theatre major, non-theatre majors who are new to singing and want a stronger technical background, or actors who are new to the musical theatre scene and are looking to take their talent to the next level. I have a strong knowledge of repertoire ranging from contemporary musical theatre to golden age to opera/operetta. I have performed in musicals, operettas, plays, and have started my own collegiate a cappella group, The Statesmen. At Penn State, I was trained to not only teach musical theatre repertoire, but to include art songs and arias as well which have their own tool in a student's growth and versatility.

Most importantly, I like to have fun in the studio. I have a very open and goofy personality and want you to feel free to be goofy as well. Dare to fail. You may learn more from your voice cracking then you might from singing a beautiful note.

Its important to enjoy the work you are doing. We can have a good laugh while working, but I can also push a little harder when necessary.

He's my first teacher - I have never learned singing elsewhere before. He says I learn fast, but the truth is that he knows how to give the best exercises and advice to make the student realise one's full potential. Practising while following the advice he pointed out during the lesson, I suddenly found myself near 3-octave range within the first couple of lessons, and now we are working on rounding the tone and make it into a beautiful singing voice. On top of it, he's also very funny and approachable.

My job is to put you in control of your voice. To give you a toolbox of knowledge that you can apply to your singing to achieve your goals. I will help you unearth and enhance your unique instrument, the magic that sets you apart from every other singer.

About Suzanne
My number one goal as a teacher is to demystify the voice. Singing can be confusing, elusive and frustrating when you just can't figure out how to create the sound you want. I have felt all these emotions as a student and dedicate my teaching style to helping each student have a solid understanding of how to use their voice correctly and to achieve the sound they desire. Every singer is different, everyone learns and has their "Ah ha" moments from a different inspiration, so I tailor my lessons to cater to each individual's needs.

I'm serious about singing, but love to find the fun and joy in the process; It's very important my students feel at ease, comfortable and free to explore their voice without feeling embarrassed or vulnerable, I create an environment that nurtures free exploration to ensure we can discover what you're capable
of!

As well as voice technique I also offer performance coaching, audition coaching, studio coaching and recording prep, songwriting, and piano for singers.

A little about me:
British-born, Suzanne hails from a Musical Theatre background, a
scholarship student of the UK's acclaimed London Studio Centre, she is proud to the Shelia O'Neil Award winner for "Best All - Round
Performer" her graduating year.

She has gathered international acclaim for her unique vocal style and her commanding stage presence. A true chameleon of voice Suzanne co-created the successful indie band Dark Furs and Jazz Duo Lux and Lois. She works regularly with acclaimed producers and Music Houses lending her diverse vocal and songwriting skills for other artists as well as creating original music for Film and Television.

Suzanne's eclectic background ranging from Musical Theatre to Indie Rock has awarded her with an arsenal of knowledge on technique, (on stage, in front of the microphone, or in the recording studio) as well style, interpretation and performance technique. Suzanne believes the most empowering tool she can teach is to unearth and champion a student's own unique vocal style.

You never stop growing as an artist, or a teacher. Suzanne loves to guide students along the journey of working to their best voice.

After almost a decade of not singing or any singing lessons, I was apprehensive to start again. I felt like I couldn't sing in front of anyone comfortably. Suzanne made me feel like I could finally let my guard down.

Her lesson plan introduced me back into the world of singing gracefully. As the lesson went on, I became relaxed and aware of my voice once again. She pointed out my strong suits which helped me with my confidence, as well as guided me to what I can work on.

Her ability to help you connect to lyrics as well as pairing it with the technical aspect of singing really makes her a standout. Highly recommend!!

Singing lessons with me are anatomy based. This means that you will be learning a lot about your body because your body is your instrument! Singing is all about the things your do with your body in order to control your sound. In addition to learning about how to control your body, you will be developing your ear. Singing isn't really about your actual voice too much and that tends to be the biggest misconception. Its about controlling your body and developing your ear and these are the things that are focused upon in our lessons!

About Cynthia
Hello! My name is Cynthia and I have been teaching for about 6 years. I received my Bachelors Degree as well as my Masters Degree from Berklee College of Music. My teaching style is considered unconventional because it focuses more on your specific creativity and goals. I do have a structure that I have developed and this structure has allowed my students to gain complete understanding of music theory, their specific instrument, and their specific goals. My goal is to create well rounded musicians and vocalists meaning you can recite songs as well as compose your own. Whatever your goals are, we can achieve them because our lessons will always be catered to specifically you!

Classical singers, listen up! Here's a resource you absolutely shouldn't miss, reviewed by voice teacher Molly R...   If you teach classical voice, you are probably aware that one of the biggest challenges is accompaniment!
