I work with people in regard to singing lessons since 2004 in both academic settings and private face-to-face instructions. The lesson's plans and general direction that it takes during the course of study substantially depends on the student's interests and preferences. Along with main subjects that motivates students most in taking voice lessons ( such as learning new songs from the contemporary popular repertoire, for instance), I will offer my prospective students basic training in general musicianship; this would enable people to sing, read written music, and understand the very basics of music theory. With such advantages at their hands, my students will be able to expand their singing repertoire and to move, probably, to another styles of music for singing and enjoying it for the sake of people's personal aesthetical development.

I am Vasiliy M, Boston University School of Music Alumnus (DMA in Composition). We dwell in Boston since Fall 2002; before that time , we lived in New York, where I studied Composition at Mannes College, The New School For Music. I received both BM, and MM degrees from Mannes in 1999, and 2001, respectively. Before an arrival to US, in 1994, I studied Jazz Performance, Electric Bass Major, and Classical Composition, at Moldova State Conservatory, from 1988 to 1993, respectively.
I was raised in the family, where music is an essential part of its daily life; my father, Grigoriy, before his retirement, was a military band trombone player, and, quite naturally, I was exposed to music, and encouraged by my parents to learn playing an instrument of my choice, from my early childhood.
My mother, Anisia Kondrat'ievna,
possesses both beautiful vocal abilities and perfect pitch , although she has never had a chance to develop her natural gifts any further. But I have heard my mother singing, and these moments remain one of the most touching and impressive musical experiences, that I have ever received, and remember to this very day.
Only after a considerable life experiences, abound of trials and mistakes, at the age of twenty five, I have come to a clear realization, that music remains my greatest passion, and that I would have to become a professional musician. With help and support of friends and colleagues, I have entered Community College in Soroki city, Moldova Republic, where I have studied Choral Conducting for Amateurs. I have graduated from school in May of 1988, having written a few instrumental and vocal compositions of my own, and, quite unexpectedly for myself, was invited, that summer, to visit Moldova State Conservatory, with the prospect of audition for the Composition Major. After the meeting with the Chair of the Department, I was offered an opportunity to be accepted to the Master Degree Program in Composition, provided I will have completed two years of preliminary studies of Music Theory, Music Harmony/Voice Leading, and many other related disciplines.
Why do I bring all of these facts to this Essay? I know for the fact now, that I was not ready for what was awaiting ahead of me, back then. There was no way, that I could cope with the demands of Composition Program curriculum. But I have had love for music, that my parents have implemented in me throughout my childhood; I have had natural abilities, that Heavens supplied me with: and I have had a chance to make my dream a reality, providing I do everything that I will have to, during the following years of struggles and study.
The decision was made, and my studies have begun. I have come through every mistake, defeat, and mind-barriers imaginable, and if it would not be a continuous stream of professional help and support, that I have received from my numerous teachers, mentors, and professors, along the years of study, my goals could never be attained to any modest, but real degree.
Whenever I have a chance to teach, tutor, or assist other musicians with their study, my past experience always reminds me, that any person may experience some difficulties of various nature with the learning material, from time to time, and that those difficulties should be addressed by student's teacher with the highly individual approach, however time-and effort-consuming it may be. Patience and respect, in regard to the students, have become as important aspects of teaching to me, as those of discipline and professionalism.
My studies have come to an end; I see now, that the world of music is an endless entity, for it has no boundaries, and we all have to maintain our further progress, in order to move to our chosen destinations, and to help others with their own advancements.

I would be more than willing to assist my prospective students with their various musical endeavors, and people's willingness to either play music instruments,take voice lessons, or to study Music Theory/ Musicianship disciplines will serve us as a starting point for our work. Through the diligent preliminary talk we will discuss various aspects of interest that my students have developed in relation to music, so we could plan and design our future lessons according to an initial discussion. My job and responsibility will be to make an intelligent assessment of my students' natural abilities for the given subject of study, to create vigorous learning atmosphere during our meetings, and to give my students professional instructions to the best of my humble abilities, for the benefits of their musical , aesthetic, and personal development. I will encourage my students to learn as much as they can, at the given moment, but I will not ever attempt to exceed people's natural capabilities. Participation in Music with love and fun should be as rewarding and valuable to the music amateur, as professional performing career ( with its highly demanding standards) stands for classically trained musicians. During our study sessions, we will work upon the goals and tasks that we have discussed at the beginning of our meetings. My ultimate goal as a teacher was and will always be to help my students discover and bring forward their best creative potentials through the intensive musical studies and practice, and, at the same time, to favor heir initial interest's transformation into a deep, serious passion.

My background:
I am an experienced tenor vocalist, with over 11 years of private vocal study, a BA in music from Williams College, and further study in vocal pedagogy (how to teach voice) with a Longy professor. I have taught voice on faculty at Camp Encore/Coda, music composition with Classroom Cantatas, and private voice lessons out of my home studio, currently in Somerville. I've also taught for 2 after school programs and 3 summer camps. I've studied piano, both classical and jazz, for a total of 15 years. I have studied a variety of musical topics at college, from theory and composition to singing and conducting, to music technology, recording and engineering. I prefer students to have a piano or keyboard, though we can work without one if necessary. My keyboard is too bulky to be carried around for each lesson. If a keyboard is not available, we can work without one, and I will bring a tuning fork for starting pitches.

I sing in a variety of styles, including classical, broadway, and jazz, both sacred and secular, from around the world. I have extensive knowledge of music theory, and 15 years experience as a pianist. Although I do not currently teach piano, my ability to accompany vocalists during lessons is very helpful for students.

About Gabriela
Gabriela Martina is a composer, arranger, and bandleader. Released in 2016 with a four-star review from DownBeat, her newest album, No White Shoes, represents a major step in the singer’s sojourn as a 21st-century musician. Martina had the opportunity to perform and collaborate with heavyweights like Meshell Ndegeocello, Jack DeJohnette, and Angelique Kidjo. She recorded with veteran drummer J.R. Robinson and was a semi-finalist in the Shure Voice Competition at the 2009 Montreux Jazz Festival, performing with guitarist Lee Ritenour’s band. Martina released a critically hailed EP in 2010, Curiosity, which included her original song “Ain’t Nobody,” a finalist in the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers Foundation Young Jazz Composer Awards in 2012. She sings in four languages (German, English, French, and Spanish) and is
currently performing with various groups up and down the East Coast. Martina owns her own booking agency called Red Velvet Sounds and is cofounder and curator of the In Momentum concert series.

Garbriela is a phenomenal teacher and performer. You can learn so many things from her. She knows very diverse vocal techniques. Gabriela is quite knowledgeable about song writing and composition topics as well. She also teaches at Berklee 5 week program. I strongly recommend her!

Mia is an absolutely outstanding teacher. I came in for my first lesson horrified to sing, not knowing anything about performing. And in just a few months of learning with Mia I was cast in my first show. Fast forward a few more months and I have been accepted to the college of my choice in their Musical Theater program. In just a year she has helped me achieve my goals that seemed so out of this world to me in the beginning but now are a reality. I provide lessons to beginner-intermediate students who are interested in learning the proper singing technique for classical music, opera, and musical theatre. In lessons, I help the students build a solid technique, learn new repertoire, and prepare for upcoming auditions. I always incorporate basic ear-training, solfege, and sight-reading practice that will aid the singer in learning and understanding music. For students learning pieces in foreign languages, I will also introduce the student to IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) and help him or her to feel comfortable with diction in multiple languages.

Hello, and welcome to my page! My philosophy for singing is that a truly great singer is versatile, and that the ideal voice is a flexible instrument that can handle a variety of genres and styles.

My personal training is primarily in classical, and I have a Master's degree in classical voice/opera from Boston Conservatory at Berklee. However, I also actively sing pop, musical theater, and even heavy metal!

Singing can be challenging, and while I work with the student intensely to diagnose and fix vocal issues, it is very important to me that the student feels happy and confident. I encourage students to express their creativity by singing in styles that they feel comfortable with, choosing their own songs, and even adding their own riffs/runs/ornamentations.

I like to place a heavy focus on music theory and sight-singing (I
offer private lessons in these subjects separately as well); It is extremely important for young singers to be able to read the notes on the staff, to understand rhythm and key, and to find pitches on the piano.

I accept beginning-intermediate singers of all ages. I additionally offer music theory, sight-singing, and diction lessons as well as beginner/introductory piano.

Heather has been fantastic for my 10 yr old! It is clear Heather's knowledge is extensive but she makes the lessons fun and is so engaging with my daughter. My kid doesn't realize how much she is learning and just loves going to her lessons every week! As a bonus, her singing actually improved as well! I was impressed! Amazing enthusiastic teacher!
I have a friend who has been taking lessons from one teacher for 3 years and learned one song! (Not even correctly) But, myself, have been taking lessons with Bob Wolfman for 2-3 months and have learned the grid method, cord construction theory, the musical staff, not to mention 2 whole songs. I would recommend this teacher to anyone willing to learn guitar correctly and productively.

I took lessons with Bob for 8 weeks, and was able to accomplish the things that I initially set out to do: have a better understanding of music theory, start to be able to read music, and to actually be able to play a song or two on the ukulele. Had my schedule not become impossible to work around, I would have continued. As someone who had never played ANY instrument, it's daunting to start at age 38, but this made it easier. I feel that I have the tools to continue to grow on my own. Thank you!

I have been on stage for 50 years, and therefore have so much hands-on experience to pass along to my students !! I think it is essential to get to know each student, to understand what makes each tick, what motivates and inspires them, what brings them to life, as far as music. I then use that knowledge to enhance their experience and give them the tools that will help them grow,using as a base their natural talents that are already there. I only help to enhance their talents and strengthen it with the use of technique that will help them to expand their range and to strengthen their performances. I try to help each to develop a style without forcing them to go in a certain direction, and many times I hear in their voices what naturally may be a great genre for them, and I will suggest taking a look at certain artists to see if their styles may be of Interest.

Hello..to hopefully my future students! If you are looking for a teacher with many years of experience on stage in various ways including musical theater, bands and also in the recording studio, you've come to the right place. If you are looking for someone who will not try to change you nor try to force you into singing songs that you do not like or change the love that you have for certain types of music by molding you into someone else, then yes, again, you have come to the right place !
My goal is to take what you have already and to improve upon it by giving you some warm-up techniques and structure so that you can preserve your talent as well as expand upon it. Want to try to sing a little higher? We will work on that. Can't hit those low Adele or Christina Perri notes? We'll tackle those. It is all about breath technique and placi
ng your voice in the right spot and we will warm up so that we can do that and focus a lot on the breath.
Do you find you lose your voice easily? I have many students that have that trouble and many of them are using their voices incorrectly on the soccer field or the softball field because they are encouraged to "be loud". One of my main concerns with my students is preserving their voices, and I focus a lot on getting them to work with me on that. It is important to preserve the voice even out of the lesson, 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. Having lost my voice when I was younger, I learned the hard way about the things we have to do to preserve it. If you are to be a singer, then this is serious and is something I focus on a lot.
Do you want to be part of a team instead of someone demanding things of you? Do you want to sing pop but have come across teachers who will force you to sing opera or classical? That will not be me. I find that whatever is in you guys that is natural is what I need to focus on as the core and I build around it and upon it. That works out so much better and having you guys choose your own songs shows me that you are engaged and interested and excited to have a lesson as opposed to having to drag your feet because you don't like what you're working on. There are songs that just don't work or are not challenging enough, and in that case I will absolutely say that we should move on to another but we do start with what is in your heart and what inspires you. That is always a good foundation and we can build from there. You and I are a team! :) Let''s do this!
