I want to make sure my students have a good time learning guitar but I also want to make sure they learn a lot..! I always make sure to ask my students what they want to learn and what their favorite music is... after that, I figure out what type of lessons to plan out.

About Emerson
Thanks so much for your interest in starting music lessons with me. I’m so excited to share my passion for music with you! As Lao Tzu said: “Music in the soul can be heard by the universe."

Lesson details:
My main goal as a teacher is to help my students reach their goals. If my student wants to learn how to play rock, hip-hop, and jazz drums I believe that it's my job to teach them how to play those styles..! If my student wants to get accepted into a music school I will make sure that they are prepared for an audition whether it be for orchestral percussion, jazz drums, rock drums, etc.

What students should have:
All students should (but don't have to) have a 3-ring binder to organize handouts in...!

Things that drum students should have: A drum set, drum sticks, a drum pad, and a music stand.

Recommended
books for a beginning drum student:
Fundamentals for Snare Drum by Garwood Whaley
Elementary Snare Drum by Mitchell Peters
Encyclopedia for Reading Rhythms by Gary Hess

Things that guitar students should have: A guitar, a guitar tuner, and a music stand.

Recommended book: Hal Leonard Guitar Method (Complete Edition) by Schmid and Koch.

My specialties:

Drum specialties: Jazz, Latin (Brazilian, Cuban), African, Rock, Funk, Metal, Pop, Hip-hop, R&B, Blues, Country, Reggae, and Marching. I am proficient in drum reading, drum transcription, practice techniques, and drum rudiments and their application on the drum set.

Orchestral percussion specialties: keyboard percussion (marimba, xylophone, glockenspiel, vibraphone, chimes), snare drum, timpani, bass drum, cymbals, tambourine, triangle, orchestral excerpts, etudes, technique, important literature, and practice techniques.

Guitar specialties: reading music, tablature, chords, scales, improvisation, and technique.

Emerson is an amazing instructor. Besides being a very knowledgeable and gifted musician, he’s patient, kind, and makes learning the drums fun. What I appreciate most about Emerson is that he’s interested in helping me reach my goals. I happen to be interested in learning Latin style drums and lucky for me, Latin is one (of many) of Emerson’s specialties. So many people have told me that Latin is hard to learn, but in four short lessons, I already know how to play a basic Bossa Nova beat. Emerson is a very organized and efficient instructor. We work with handouts, video (I record him as he instructs) and reading exercises from a book. A highlight for me in our sessions is when Emerson accompanies my drum playing with another instrument, the piano for example. I really get the feeling like we’re having a little jam session and it's fun because I can hear that I'm making music and that's an awesome feeling.

Choose Emerson as your music instructor and you will not be disappointed.

With six years of guitar playing and performing experience, Liz loves to share her knowledge of folk, reggae, rock, and pop style playing. She also loves to teach the theory behind the fretboard and how it relates to the Western scale.

About Liz
After graduating California Institute of the Arts with a multi-focus on several aspects of music including African dance, Indonesian gamelan, songwriting, recording, classical voice and piano, folk guitar, and more, Liz had the excellent opportunity to teach theater to a local musical theater summer youth program. All summer, she taught class sizes ranging from 10 to 26 students of the ages 5-10. Her initiative later led to being hired at this local community theater. Along with this theater teaching experience, she has been teaching piano, guitar, ukulele, flute & voice lessons for over 10 years. Her students have gone from knowing nothing about music to learning and performing entire pieces on their own as well as even auditioning & for agents and becoming signed artists in Los Angeles. Liz knows that it is her place in the world to tea
ch music & spread positivity through her own music and would love nothing more than make learning music a positive and fun experience for everyone.

*** Lesson Details ***
I teach out of the Alfred's Piano course, but am open to trying out any music books you may already have in your home. I do expect my students to purchase the books they would like to learn out of and to have the material I have given them for homework ready, completed, and practiced by the time we have our weekly lesson. I recommend at least twenty to thirty minutes of practice every day, and will give rewards for having practiced well, and for performing well in our lessons. I would love it for my students to be clear on what they would like to learn, and I love using songs that the student enjoys to make his or her music learning process fun.

*** Studio Equipment ***
In my home studio, I have a full size Cable-Nelson upright piano, as well as two ukuleles, and two guitars (one acoustic-electric and one electric).

*** Travel Equipment ***
When I travel, I bring my own instrument that the student is learning on so that I can demonstrate, as well as a music stand if necessary.

*** Specialties ***
Pop, folk, opera, musical theater, classical, rock, reggae

Rob is a HIGHLY skilled guitarist! And from personal experience I also know Rob to be an extremely professional and laser focused musician; given that I currently am in a musical endeavor with Rob, and recently acquired a position working with him as a fellow music teacher. Rob also routinely exhibits his musical knowledge, experience, and schooling; through his OUTSTANDING ensemble/listening skills, and through his ability to create very appropriate, tasteful, and unique guitar melodies. All this being said, he is one of the best guitarist I have ever worked with, and I would HIGHLY recommend that you choose Rob as your teacher!

Most beginners new to guitar give up within the first week because they either don't know where to begin or they use generic methods of learning (i.e. online videos, books, etc.) Learning and playing guitar is a personal experience, and when you find your style it becomes one of the most rewarding decisions you can make. My approach to teaching is to guide students through fundamentals while making the learning experience fun and finding a sound they can produce that will bring the joy of music from their fingertips.

About Gregory
I am a professional singer/songwriter with a specialty in acoustic guitar and country music. I've recorded in major studios and home-based studios and have a passion for getting more people into making their own music.

I first started to play guitar over 20 years ago, and I still remember how tough those first couple months can be to stay motivated. I'm here to help you learn some fun things which can ease you into playing and keep you or your child's interests.

When I first started playing guitar in middle school, my teacher was pivotal in keeping me engaged and I'm thankful for his influence and use it as a base for the my students.
