About Anabelle C.

About Anabelle
When did you begin playing [instrument], and why?:

I've been singing since I was about 8. I began to play piano when I was a teenager, because many of my classmates were very skilled at the piano, and I became inspired to be like them.

What are your personal goals as a musician?:

I love opera, and my goal is to compose my own. I plan on working closely with the librettist, since I'm a poet as well.

Do you have a memory of a time when a musical concept or technique really clicked? Something you'll remember forever?:

I never knew what perfect pitch was until I was much older. I also didn't realize I had perfect pitch until a professor at an audition made me aware of my ability. Since then, it's become a wonderful tool.

What is your favorite piece of advice from one of your past (or current) teachers?:

Being compassion
ate with a student will allow them to fearlessly open up to their potentials.

What was your most challenging moment learning an instrument?:

In the winter months, my body feels tight and cold, and sometimes this causes tension during playing or singing. That's why to me it's important to work in a warm environment, do proper daily stretching, and have a healthy lifestyle (good diet, exercise, proper sleep).

What is your biggest musical achievement?:

Composing a fugue.

Favorite thing about teaching?:

I love sharing my passion for music with other human beings.

What is a piece of advice you would like to share with anyone learning music?:

If at first you don't succeed, try try again. Music is meant to be fun, enjoy it!

Personal music projects: i.e. bands, groups, shows, recording, etc. (if any):

In 2015, I composed the music for my sister's walk down the aisle (wedding piece). Additional compositions underway, member of American Composer's Forum, member of Contemplum (composition club at Temple), participant in the Oticons Film Score Contest.

About Anabelle...

Anabelle has been involved with sounds and music from an early age. Her greatest forte is her hearing. When she was young, people thought she might become a voice actor, because her skill at replicating voices was quite apparent. Still, she loved to sing and had been regularly involved in choirs. She dabbled in violin in the fifth grade, but she didn't feel a "click." Without despairing, she tried her luck with piano and felt instantly in sync. She knew this was the right instrument for her. During her piano studies, she continued to work on her voice. In addition, she studied the workings of a sound board, and was head sound chief at her high school. At the college level, she began to pursue composition, while still continuing with piano and vocal studies. She holds an A.A. with a music focus (piano performance), a B.M. in music theory, and a M.M in music education from Boston University. She has been teaching music since 2006 and has worked with a wide range of ages and various group sizes. Her joy is working with people in a field that she is passionate about. Her interests include music (jazz, classical, opera, new age), ballet, composition, yoga, meditation, going to the gym, hiking and camping, scuba-diving, sailing,Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture, cooking and baking, film-editing, sound engineering, poetry, reading good books, building websites, and watching documentaries.

Chryssa has been an amazing teacher so far! She really knows how to teach a difficult language without overwhelming a beginner learner but while still moving at a pace that is comfortable and productive. Chryssa is patient and good at identifying what is difficult for you. I would recommend Chryssa to anyone wanting to learn Greek.

M. Marie Roche conducted on the campus of U Mass eight seminars--open to all--on two of Shakespeare's history plays, King John and Richard II. Neither play is popular with modern Shakespeare-going audiences. But she accomplished the nearly impossible--making both plays compelling and relevant by her selection of background documents and themes. I hope that TakeLessons can provide an adequate platform for her level of sophistication.

Matías and I first met through the Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching program in 2008 and have remained in touch ever since. We have worked together and collaborated thtoughout the years in various ways. Matías is a dedicated and experienced teacher who strives to create memorable and practical lessons. He likes making students think out of the box and often brings his interests to the classroom, making for a content-based class. He is creative and tries new methodologies and ideas, as he is up-to-date on the latest language teaching trends. He is also fun and kind-hearted. I strongly recommend Matías and doubt you'll find a better language teacher.

About Clare
After two years working as a translator/interpreter for a local government office in Kochi, Japan, I moved back to the US last year. Since then, I have been a private teacher of Japanese for all ages, currently from age 7 to mid-40s. I love to be a witness when my students suddenly "get" something new we've been working on for a while. Japanese is a fascinating, beautiful, and complicated language, and it's exciting to be a partner in my students' achievements and success!

I am highly experienced in teaching middle school and high school age students--including my own kids, whom I homeschool. My first visit to Japan was a semester study abroad in my senior year of high school, so I can give ample advice to students who are preparing to go to Japan. Along with my on-the-ground experience living and working in Japan in a fast-paced and hig
h-stakes environment, I hold an M.A. in Japanese and N1 (highest level) certification on the Japanese Language Proficiency Test. Native Japanese speakers have complimented me on my native-like pronunciation and syntax.

Contact me any time for more information or to set up your first lessons!

Our son has always been interested in foreign languages. He began teaching him self Japanese in early 2014. He asked us to help him locate a tutor so he could accelerate his learning. We started working with Claire in late 2016 at the age of 14. It has worked out great! She is patient, professional and organized. She keeps us appraised of his progress. We would highly recommend her for anyone interested in learning how to read write and speak Japanese! Ron and Anne L . , Belchertown , MA

Clare has a perfect balance for a homeschool instructor. Half "strict" teacher and half fun innovator we have found her balance of worksheets/homework along with Youtube videos to watch and Japanese games to play to be just what we need. My boys are 8 and 10. The 10 yr old actually has a learning disability and he does better in Japanese than with some structures in English!!

My experience with Clare has been great! Clare is extremely comfortable with Japanese and is just all around excellent at guiding me through lessons. She is extremely patient and absolutely willing to take it slow and focus on my own personal language goals with me. She's able to adapt and help me regardless of my progress moving faster or slower any given lesson. I don't feel any pressure, she is friendly and approachable, and her understanding of Japanese is thorough. She's an excellent teacher. If you plan to learn just how to speak, read, or write, or if you need a tutor to help with the studies you've already begun, Clare has you covered. Highly recommended.

About marc
Hi guys!

I am both an English and music teacher who lives in America at the moment. I both work as an English teacher for refugees near Seattle as well as play as a professional musician. I have been teaching for about 5 years both in America and in Europe. My most recent teaching abroad was in Italy, where I taught Italian and English to refugees in Milan. This has allowed me to teach to people from over 50 countries and from all sorts of age groups!

I am a native-English speaker so I can help you with cultural aspects of the language as well as the basics of grammar and pronunciation. I have a TEFL certificate as well as well as a C1 language proficiency in Spanish, Italian, and German if those languages interest you as well! I have also been a professional musician since I was 14. I play bass, piano, and drums, and can teach all
of these instruments as well as music theory!

I mainly want you guys to succeed and have fun learning so I try to have a fun learning environment, and I am very open to talk and teach nearly any subject that y'all are interested in!

Mr. Marc was an extremely enthusiastic instructor that made me excited about all of the material he taught me. He is very resourceful and uses a unique approach that I never had encountered from any other instructor. He is very kind and knowledgeable in many subject areas, and is an incredible musician. My playing improved tremendously under his instruction. I would HIGHLY recommend him to students of any age!
