I have been very fortunate to have had some incredible teachers over the years - George Garzone, Kenny Werner, Billy Kilson, Ed Tomassi, Shannon LeClaire, and many others - and I know how much of a difference the right teacher can make.

I love to teach, and have been teaching both privately and in a school setting, as a band director, for many years. I have worked with students of all ages and levels, from complete beginners to advanced players. Whether you want to learn how to read music, improve your technique, work on your sound, practice the fundamentals, develop your soloing, or all of the above, I can help take you to the next level.

I hope to work with you!

About Dan

Originally from San Francisco, I have been playing saxophone for nearly 20 years. I have been fortunate to perform all over the world, including recent tours in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Panama, and Costa Rica, and have shared the stage with many great artists, including Danilo Perez, Kenny Werner,

I look forward to my lessons with Dan every week. I’m a beginner alto player and Dan does a great job patiently answering all my questions and giving comprehensive advice. He’s very analytical and gives you the detailed context of why what you’re learning is important and how it fits into the context of playing in a band, different styles etc. He will flex lessons based on what you need to know but also what you’re interested in. Most importantly he’s fun and just an all around great guy. He’s the man, what else can I say.

Dan is kind and caring. He was very patient going over the super basics with a brand-new player! He gave good, clear instruction, and is focused on mastering the fundamentals so players can start with good habits and good sound, and so players can make future advancements more smoothly.

Dan is a fountain of knowledge; an incredibly talented and eclectic artist. I have been struggling with alto sax for years but with Dan’s approach, I finally feel, I am making some progress. Dan tailors the lessons to fit your needs; making it challenging, comprehensive, engaging and fun. He helps me transcribe small parts of licks I like, which has been an invaluable experience for me. He makes sure that you REALLY get the material you are studying. Don’t just shake your head and say “yes”.
He is always there to answer your questions (no matter how dumb they may seem), encourages and motivates you.

About Hannah

After studying piano for almost 10 years I decided I wanted to learn a new instrument and began taking violin lessons when I was 16 years old. In spite of people telling me that I was “too old” to learn to play the violin, I continued practicing and one year later I joined my first orchestra. In 20

Hannah does a wonderful job with my daughter, she started with how to tune and set up the violin. Hannah does a great job working with my daughter showing her the proper technique and providing her exercises and activities to do in between lessons. You can tell Hannah loves teaching and music.
Robert
Hannah is a very dedicated and patient instructor. She always tries to keep the lessons interesting and fun, she also makes sure I take little stretch breaks in between exercises and always teaches me something new!

At 40, I decided to pick up the tuba that I’d kept since playing in college. I wanted to get off to a solid start. I found in Bryan a solid teacher with a wealth of all sorts of musical knowledge. I implemented the lessons into practice and felt myself grow stronger in some areas than I had ever experienced in my first 10 years of practice and learning. I was also able to see a marked improvement in my bass guitar skills by applying many of the same concepts to the playing of that instrument. These lessons have been a great investment for my musicianship.
Kunjan
Bryan has very unique lesson plans and can channel his musical thoughts very clearly. He was very understanding and reflective of my needs. He then presented me with a series of mental models and exercises which i am certain will make me not just a better pianist but a better musician and also help me appreciate music better.

I would highly highly recommend Bryan and i will certainly continue the musicial journey with him.

As a young female, I was apprehensive about choosing a male teacher that teaches in his home. However, Paul has been professional and I have not had any concerns since meeting him and working with him. He is a well-planned, experienced teacher who artfully progresses students from week to week in a manner that is constructive and fun. In only 5 weeks I have learned more about playing guitar and guitar theory than I would have thought. He has been attentive to my goals and it is precisely the experience that I pay for.

I've been with Paul for about 3-4 months. I came to him having a minor in music and a lot of guitar under my belt, but frustrated with my consistency. I did a check in on my abilities recently and I'm able to play pretty much any song in the real book now after 1 or 2 tries. This is great, especially because I don't feel like I'm working that hard. So yeah he's great. I recommend him.

I have played violin for the past 18 years and received my Bachelor of Arts in Music at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. I am currently a graduate student at Boston University. I think the most important part of violin playing is having fun and enjoying what you do, so I really emphasize this in my teaching. I also think it is important that we use our bodies well and avoid playing related pain, so my teaching focuses on getting players into a comfortable position with their violin. I have taught all ages, and am great teaching in the beginning stages when everything feels new and difficult!

About Marial

I have been teaching violin for the past three years and have experience with a variety of different students. My own background is in classical music, but I also have done clinics and performances in jazz, mariachi, and fiddle. I like to cater to my students and find what music drives them, so I v

"Updating my previous review. After 5 sessions, Randy has been able to give me the exact kind of tips and techniques I was hoping for from a teacher; with much more to come I'm sure. For several decades I had neglected any music skills I may have had as a child - even steering clear of a piano or keyboard for fear of someone asking me to sit down and play. I'm confident those fears are waning and will be gone in short order under Randy's lead."

"I was impressed. I took lessons years ago and she turned the light on to many things I have forgotten. She has inspired me to work hard to grow. I would highly recommend. I would have given 5 stars, but the comment “best teacher ever”, to me, would be inappropriate to any teacher or person of any field."

"I started with Peter when I was 13 years old and continued taking weekly lessons until I was 19. In those 7 years Peter helped take my playing from an intermediate level to a near expert level. Our weekly meetings ranged from just learning new songs, music theory, or just jamming over backing tracks we would create. Peter is knowledgable in every form of music. In our years of lessons we enjoyed playing classic rock, blues, jazz, classical, and gypsy jazz. Peter was able to walk me teach me through the beginning levels of Music Theory.

Most importantly through our 7 years together, became was able to take me from a very shy musician to someone who was very confident on stage playing at different bars. Peter went from being a teacher to a very close friend as he helped me grow. Although I do not take lessons with him anymore due to being away at college, I keep in touch with Peter every time I am home.

I would highly recommend Peter to anyone at any level guitar playing. He has the patience someone needs if you're just starting out and the expertise to help take even some of the best players to the next level."

How to Practice Singing at Home: Setting Up Your Practice Space

Unlike most other musical instrument, your voice is something that you carry with you everywhere! This is perhaps why many beginners are less likely to consider how their practice space should be set up, and why they have more trouble with performances. Practicing singing is just like any other kind of practice, whether for music, the arts, or a sport. You have to establish a space where you can focus on what you're doing with the least number of distractions. Knowing how to practice will take …
