I tailor my teaching approach to my individual students' needs, and help my students pursue the piano at the speed and level of intensity they desire. I am as happy to help beginners take casual lessons as I am to help more advanced students prepare for recitals and auditions. I believe that a varied dose of repertoire with a sprinkling of scales and exercises is essential to any pianist's success. Most importantly, I help my students develop musicality alongside their technical skills.

Hello! I began studying piano when I was 4 through the Suzuki method and started teaching when I moved to San Francisco to start school. I am dedicated to the Suzuki method and believe in it; in case you're unfamiliar with the Suzuki method, it's a way of approaching music that focuses on fundamentals, developing the ear, and learning through emulation rather than solely on reading and theory. As someone who was taught by a more traditional teacher who was a strict adherent to the Suzuki method timeline, I have found myself to be much more flexible teacher who really wants to structure the lessons around the student to maximize an enjoyable relationship with the piano and music. For adults, of course, we start looking at reading pretty much from the beginning whereas for children, we steer clear of reading for a bit. I have a dog and two cats who are super friendly and who love to sit and listen to the piano lessons (I have had a few students who are scared) - just FYI! Looking ...

I can help those, who are new to the instrument, to become familiar with scales, progressions, technique, reading, and musical styles. I enjoy helping students find their voices and tastes by using videos and music that inspires them. If students already have some songs that they wish to learn, I can help them achieve those goals, as well.
About Tracy
